Options for budget weights

    Hello all,

I'd like to buy my own set of weights. I've moved to a smaller gym and sometimes, given my time restraints, the weights can be a pain to use due to the limited availability.

I was thinking about investing in some of my own. Possibly starting off with some dumbells and maybe adding a barbell in the future. My problem is that funds are very limited. What would you guys recommend i look into?

I think that the olympic type sets are probably out of the question and that id have to stick to getting a set of the cheap plastic type filled with sand.

I had gotten to the stage where i was comfortably lifting 15's with the dumbells. The problem this poses is that The cheaper weights tend to come in 30kg sets and i think that i would quickly 'grow out' of them which isn't much good.

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated as I'm a relative noob at all this:D

Keep looking. Gumtree, Donedeal, tesco, Elverys, put a wanted add in the local shop. You can get a seven foot standard bar from Irishlifting.com.

Pull up bar and a built it yourself Bulgarian bag might be enough to get on with.

The sand/vinyl ones are crap. They degrade over time and usually come with hollow weak barbell which will bend, rated only to about 50-60kg. One big issue is bulkiness. I currently use a single 27kg cast iron dumbbell, 4x5kg plates, 2x2.5kg and the 2kg handle, I can't fit any more on. There is no way you could fit this on with vinyl plates, they are massive.

And get a chinup bar and/or rings, and check adverts.ie as mentioned
