Another slap in the face for us here, doubtful it'll even be a numbered event.
1 event a year, overpriced tickets just cos it's UFC yet the sheep will buy them and the UFC will carry on taking the piss
Could be worse, you could have gone to Poznan last night.

Lets not be too hasty in writing the event off.

For entertainment value, I'll take a card full of hungry up and comers over a card full of jaded, careful stars any day.

people need to accept that we're never going to have big name title fights over here while PPV dollars are the number 1 concern for the UFC. I'd love to see Paul Sass fight, same goes for Pickett.. People were ****ting all over UFC 138 and it turned out to be a deadly night of fights IMO.. Id much prefer to see young Irish/UK talent *cough* Conor McGregor *cough* get a shot to make a name for themselves on a regional UFC than have a "big name" like lil nog or Leben or the guys they usually have on these cards so the casual fan will tune in..

    What exactly is the problem?

I think we should at least wait for the whole card before we make our minds up. Big names will be never fill euro cards.

My problem? So many, where do i start, sure i know that cards with so called 'smaller' named fighters are exciting, but once in a while i really would like to see one of the top guys over here, names like Jones, GSP, Cain etc.

I've been lucky enough to see some great UFC names fight (Penn, Dampage, CroCop, Hendo), and wouldn't mind seeing a few more.

One of the big things that bugs the crap outta me is that, even though this will be a smaller card (Now announced as UFC ON FUEL TV 5), ticket prices will still be xtortionate, just because it's UFC. Zuffa are on a win win situation, if the sheep don't buy them then they'll just say they won't be coming back for a bit due to ticket sales (like Dana said this week about Florida), and if they do sell out, which they will, then Zuffa are laughing all the way to the bank.

Dana has promised, many times at Fight Club Q&A's, that his plan is to have UK UFC events match the cards in the states, and that we will see title fights.
Nice guy that he is, he's just a lying fcuker (See ya next year Dublin )

Now i hope they're no disrespect here to the smaller fighters but if i'm gonna pay top dollar for a ticket then i wanna see 1 or 2 top names, this fight, in all liklehood, is going to be headlined by Dan Hardy, who is 1-4!!!!!! And that's only because Bisping is probably Injured.

FCuk Zuffa, for the cheapest priced UFC ticket for this event you can buy a ringside ticket for any Cage Contendors or CageWarriors show

Who wouldn't love to see the top names fight outside of the American timezones. Sadly, with PPV being the money maker, its unlikely to happen. I'd also imagine top guys are reluctant to fight overseas as their PPV money takes a cut too.

    What's extortionate prices?
I was under the impression that tickets outside of the states where cheaper in general. I priced an event in America recently, and it was far more expensive than what I paid here in Oz - Both PPV cards and FX cards. What are they like for UK events?

Did he ever actually say they'll be in Dublin next year? I've only ever heard, "We'll be back at some point". I always thought that was basically a rumour made up as part of a moan/rant by somebody.

As for the title fights, again it goes back to the PPV.
As it stands, Bisping getting a shot is prob the only chance of it happening soon.
I'm not defending Zuffa, I'm just being realistic. It's still a business. I felt a little let down with this years Sydney card.

I think, of the top of my head, the last UK event ticket prices were £70-£250, that was on a par, more or less, with all UFC US events OUTSIDE Vegas.

Look how they started in the UK (not incl UFC38), 70,75 & 80 were amazing, we had all got the taste then so they fed us weaker cards. Same happening in Oz.

How many events have the Canadians had or having this year? Loads

I priced 149 and that was stating at $150. That's not in Vegas btw. I was surprised that it was so high for the cheapest as in Oz tickets started at $50. And the $100 section was pretty good if you were early.

The non numbered events (FX, Fox etc) were about half the price. Starting at $75.

Ticket prices are out, £75-£225 for a UFC on FUEL event!!! Taking the piss.

Edit : Tickets for UFC on FUEL for July 11th in San Jose are $50-$175 (£32-£112)

    Less than half the price!!!

Okay I'm not going to argue its a poor quality card but if McGregor ends up on it. I'll be sick I haven't gone. Has anyone on the forum looked at going to it? Ryanair have a sale to east midlands airport that runs until thur and bus to Nottingham for 12 pounds. Can anyone tell me if this is the best way to go about travelling to the event? And has anyone looked at accommodation priced?

Prices are high for what you'll get, I have to go to a wedding on that day so will prob spend more money on that.

Bisping wants to fight asap after his op, is targeting a fight on Sept 1 in Vegas so could possibly be available for this card too. Just listened to yesterdays MMA hour.

Be nice to see him on the card but Ben Blackmore just tweeted saying it was unlikely. John Maguire said at cage warriors that he would be on the card.

Link has Fuel5 in it so I'm guessing it'll be UFC on Fuel 5. Was hoping they'd do a numbered event. Hopefully John sbg knows something that we don't about a certain Irish fighters involvement

Firstly Ben Blackmore is an idiot. He was one person I was glad, I didn't have to see on TV covering MMA after Setanta went. Even though Setanta were very good with their UFC coverage.

The card sucks already and will suck. The only real guarantee of a good fight is that Sass will have to fight a decent opponent. Hardy will be giving someone who will be more than willing to have a stand up fight with him.

I don't think this event is going to sell out. Carl Froch apparently wants to fight in October and in Nottingham against who most believe will be Mikkel Kessler.

I'm not saying that, and never have, but when they're charging the UK fans the same price as a full event in the U.S (Outside Vegas) and more than double the price of another ON FUEL card that's just taking the piss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,357 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Very true! And when you see the cards for the last shows at both Cage Contender and Cage Warriors, you really see how silly it is that they will charge so much for so little star power and lack of Championship level fighters and get away with it just because it has the UFC brand attached!

I'd agree the pricing seems more than a little messed up. I know the upcoming Fuel card in San Jose is cheaper, any idea what ticket prices were like for the one in Sweden?

For all your moaning the last cage warriors card was an awesome card to have in ireland and there were suprising loads of empty seats. Cage contender sells out lesser cards due to good promotion by John. Try filling the shows we have here first then worry about spending a fortune going to the ufc in the uk.

If we've been going to the irish shows are we allowed moan then? Do we get some sort of card saying so? Maybe a secret handshake too...

You get that when you pay me a small registration fee. And yes I think then you have more right to feel agrieved at the lack of big names and extortionate prices when the UFC comes to town or across the water.

I was and am still shocked at the amount of empty seats there was at cw. Don't understand it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,438 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

I agree with you that it's shocking that people don't support the local mma scene. I mean, some of the best fights I've seen have been on Irish shows.
But I don't agree with your point that people don't have a right to complain about UFC cards unless they support Irish mma first. Plenty of people would watch premiership football and never see a game of the Eircom League (or whatever it's called now), but they're fans too and have every right to give out about it if they feel the standard isn't up to scratch.

What confused me about that was that the tickets for the cage side and general seating all sold out, yet I could still see empty seats cage side from where I was sitting. That could be people who were only showing up for specific fights though, and there were certainly more people in the crowd when the main card started than earlier in the night.
I really dont get the point of doing that though, you're paying to see the full card, why skip any unless you cant make it on time?

I agree with you that the pricing is expensive compared to US events as well as other outside US events (basing this on Sydney btw). But they are still cheaper than full events. I'll be in Canada this summer and checked out 149 tickets. $150 to $1,200

    UFC Nottingham - Starts are £75 ($116.70)
UFC on Fuel San Jose - Starts at $63.25
UFC on FX - Starts at $75 + taxes/fees will prob be $95
    UFC 148 - $140 - Vegas
    UFC 149 - $150 - Canada.

It's not miles of the price of the FX card, so hopefully its more FX than Fuel. Nothing against the lower ranked fighters, they can still but on a show. But as Scud said, if you are paying for it, plus flights plus accom, then it adds up and a bigger names do carry a value.

One thing worth mentioning, this years Sydney event was a lower level of fighter compared to 110 and 127. But the UFC prob made up for it by putting on far better events for fight week.

I regularly travel to Nottingham. East Midlands is the appropriate airport if anyone is going over (flights are cheap to there too), and I can recommend Jury's Inn in Nottingham, very nice rooms and great location in the town center. Ogle v Corassani looks like a good match up for Ogle.

Struve is always in entertaining bouts and very rarely goes to a decision

It's a decent fight, but never a headliner to be fair. Co-headline yes.

I'm still hoping (never thought I'd say it) that Bisping will make the card. He's apparently going to be back in training within a few weeks after his surgery went well. Still can't stand the guy but he is in the title chasing pack so would bring a decent opponent too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I hate to say it, but this is turning into a good card.

    Struve vs Miocic
    Mills vs Ludwig
    Hardy vs TBC
    Sass vs Wiman

Low on big names of course but some potentially excellent fights.

I have booked flights to this. Tickets are really expensive, Ticketmaster seem to have the £150 tickets still for row J. Anybody have any information on the best seats for this event?

Also, if anybody is looking for adequate and inexpensive accommodation then this place is decent enough and normally costs around £35/£40 per night:

If I do go to this event (more than likely, I've told the wife it's her Christmas present to me...) then I'll be leaving it late and buying on ebay.

Where are you flying from/to? I'm leaning towards Dublin to East Midlands. Pain in the hole driving from Donegal to Dublin instead of flying from Derry or even Belfast but flights are crap from there and I'd probably end up having to bus into Nottingham from Birmingham or further.
