Anyone going to this? Its on in the Grand Canal (Bord Gais) Theatre on Saturday the 16th of June and looks like its going to be a cracking show.

Pre-judging is 9.30am (10euro at the door) and the evening show is 6.30pm and you can get tickets through ticketmaster. If you're not busy come down and show some support for the Irish lads and ladies competing :)

I've been on/off reading Paul Scarborough's journal on UKM as he prepped for the NABBA West Britain and now NABBA Worlds.

Some dedication from these lads to get on stage.

Evening show was great, some unreal routines.

Tommy Staunton took 1st in the class 4, deserved it, his condition was superb.

Couldn't fault many of the judges decisions tbh, Lukas Gabris got 2nd in the class 1's and looked furious, however I don't think he was as crisp as the lad who got 1st. Similarly Tony Mount looked surprised at not winning his class (3) and imo he should have won his class, however the guy who won his class took the overall, so it was very close.

Another highlight of the show was that 73 y/o ex bodybuilder showing his calves and then his body, great nick for his age.

All the Irish lads looked great, Loughlin Gannon took 5th in class 2 which was great, his routine was also very well timed and planned out.

All in all a great show from Paul Byrne, that was my 1st time in the grand canal theatre and I have to say it is a fantastic facility.

Tommy = legend. Delighted for him, a winners medal couldn't go to a more deserving guy.

    Any results online?

I don't think I have ever been to a show where everyone was happy with their placing.

Just the nature of it being somewhat subjective - as long as judging is consistent that is all you want.

He dropped over 60lbs for the show, and was back training at 10am the morning after winning it!

In case anyone is wondering, the guy in Red in the last pic took the overall.

More muscle in this pic than in the entire fitness forum.

how bad does a bodybuilder generally rebound after a show?

I've heard talk of two week pig outs if there isn't another show lined up.

Thought Gabris deserved to win Class 1. Way more muscle mass than the winner and a much better shape. Thought the guy in 3rd in Class 3 deserved to be 2nd but the winner looks much better.
Nice to see Ireland getting a winner, Staunton was a stand out winner in Class 4, probably the weakest of the classes but he can only beat what is there on the day and he did easily

EDIT - mention for Rory Collins in Class 1, you will see him in the 1st 2 pictures in the IrishMuscle gallery. Only competed for the first time a few months ago, his legs are insane!

    That depends on the bb'er.

Back in the early 00's I met Tommy on his way into Bodysystems gym or maybe he was just walking up the street - it was about two weeks after some show, could have been IABO back then or RIBBF not sure but in two weeks I had to do a double take, did not recognise him as the last time I saw him he was on stage! He had been at the pies in the meantime! LOL:D

Figure if you lose 40-50lbs and are effectively below your normal weight - when you stop the extreme dieting and cardio putting 14lbs on in a few days is easy.

I as a rower jumped 14lbs in a week after returning from a training camp however I was not heavier than before I went just bounced back up very fast when not training 3 times a day - was training once per day though.

The whole event was outstanding from start to finish. The location, the line-up and class rotation was just perfect. It flowed very well, bar a few hiccups with the DJ fluffing peoples routine music (surely it can't be that hard a job?). Paul Byrne should be very very proud of the show he put together.

Loughlan Gannon looked outstanding and his routine was awesome. Jade Kealy and Jenny Mayberry both looked amazing although Jade didn't place in the finals. Her routine in prejudging was top quality. Jenny placed 5th I think and looked incredible! Obviously the man of the night was Tommy, such a gentleman and what a physique. Niall Kinsella looked unreal but his class was extremely stacked and I think his legs being that little bit smaller than the rest of his class bumped him out of his top 6 which is a pity. Dave O'Niell and Rory Collins both looked very close in size and conditioning fair play to both of those guys they had a seriously difficult class 1 lineup but looked incredible.

There was a lot of talk about lukas gabris alright (spelt wrong Id say, apologies) He really is a mass monster, intimidating size to stand beside! But i really think NABBA scores competitors higher for conditioning than purely on mass. To be fair he was a little bit on the softer side of the rest of his class, regardless of his size and I think second was the right placement for him on the day.

The conditioning over mass debate is something i bitched about before but the more i learn about bodybuilding the more i understand why they do it that way and actually respect that kind of judging more.

    Much bigger but much softer

Thought the guy in 3rd in Class 3 deserved to be 2nd but the winner looks much better.

Met him at a photoshoot for ON yesterday morning, serious shape but he said he reckoned he deserved 3rd. Close though!

I wouldn't say easily, the British guy that came second was in phenomenal shape!

Loughlin Gannon, 5th place, Class 1. You can tell this guy really enjoys his posing, great routine.

ps: he is also the proud owner of the worlds best X-mas tree ;)
