Does anyone else own one of these and if so what are they like. I saw a 2012 version of the bike for €1699 in the local bike shop and was wondering if it was good value. A 2011 one is reviewed below. It sounds like a good bike with a good spec for that price. If I do go back to the shop with cash in hand I might be able to get a few more bob off the asking price

I have a 2011 105 build Orion. Its a great bike, and with Ultegra and Fulcrum7 wheels, €1700 isn't too bad a price, but you may be able to haggle a bit more off that. Lots of guys on here will have Orions so I guess you'll get other opinions. You will also get lots of suggested alternatives for that money, so be prepared to be confused!

I have the one you've linked, with minor differences. It's a great bike, may not be the lightest bike at that price, but really responsive frame that looks great. Comfortable enough for sportive's and the like, but definitely on the stiffer side of bikes in this price range. As theblaaman has said, it's at a very competitive price point, and there are bikes that are lighter, bikes that are more comfort orientated, etc, but it's a great frame. You won't regret it if you do decide to go for it.

Thanks for the replys guys. I might be able to get him to throw pedals on for that price. Its states its the display price so I am not to sure how flexible he would be to knocking say a 100 off it. Its roughly the same price as the Boardman team carbon I am also considering but this this bike maybe a bot more relaxed geometry wise then the boardman which would be one of my aims in getting the bike i.e it won't be used for racing.

Saw one of these today with the 10 speed tiagra for 1300 in swords. Pretty light bike for the money

Great bike. And for an ultegra build on a decent carbon frame, that's a savage price. I've a 105 Orion as a training bike and it's brilliant. I read reviews telling me it was stiff and uncomfortable - all nonsense. It's the most comfortable bike I've had. Yes it's stiff and responsive like a race bike should be but it rides really well on poxy roads too.

Yeh thats the place but it was listed as 1699

Just wondering which do you reckon is the better bike and also more importantly the one with the most relaxed geometry?
The Orion is dearer then the boardman by 60 euro

    Hey lads,

I need some help on sizing a Ridley Orion ,

I was just looking at bikes online and I'm thinking of getting a Ridley Orion 105,how did you find the Ridley sizing ? I'm 5'9"/5'10" and 31"inside leg,my pinarello is 51.5 = 53.5 top tube most of my bikes have been med or 54 top tube 50/51 seat tube,in a ridley it looks like I'm a small,I did try a Ridley alloy frame, can't remember what model it was my brother inlaw had few months back and it did feel big,I don't want to order the wrong size,I'd like to know what size you went for ?

    Cheers zip,

Not going to be of direct relevance, but I reckon I should have bought one size smaller: I'm 185cm/6"1' and got a XL - effective Top tube of 585mm and seat tube 560mm (C-C). At this stage I reckon I'd be more comfortable and be able to use a longer stem on a Large.

I suspect you'll be in that overlap zone but would think you would be closer to a Medium, but you really only will know if you sit on a few and try them for reach etc. IMO, they do fit a bit 'big'.

Here's the geometry, but you probably have it already...

    Hey,

Thanks for reply,I'm thinking they fit on the big side also, when I tried out my brother inlaw's Ridley it did feel big to me,and that was a medium,I want it to be small as I'll use it in the local races and if it's to big it would not feel like a race bike, the Joys of buying online !!!

    Cheers zip,

I had a go on an Orion with 105, great bike, the one in the LBS was a little too big and a little too expensive so I went for a Ridley fenix - http://www.ridley-bikes.com/ie/en/bikes/1/24/race/fenix-7005-1308a#tab-bike-info

Delighted with the fenix, its not carbon but given my ability, makes no difference

The Orion with Ultegra at that price is a great deal.

if you don't mind coming down to 105 groupset then what about this for a cheaper option ... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ridley-orion-1105b-105/

    Hey,

Have one on order,it looks like a good price bit of kit at that money, don't think you can go wrong, they also said if size is not right they would take it back and refund me or replace it,I think the 105 is sound for what I want it for,I know the wheels may not be the best but I have other sets,I don't think I have herd anything bad about them,

    Cheers zip,

    Hi there,

I am looking at buying an Orion with Ultegra. Mostly what I want is something thats comfortable as I have lower back problems. I was given a second hand Orion size small (Old Frame) for a few days from the shop to try it out, which I could not get comfortable on. It felt away too big and I felt very streched.

I am also looking at a Scott Cr1 Team (size small) with 105 which I really like as well but the LBS will not let me take it out for a ride where I can only use it on a turbo trainer. On the turbo trainer it did feel very comfortable in fit.

My problem is I would really like to get the Orion from the point of view of the difference in service and customer care between the 2 shops. These are my questions.

    1. Do you think I will be able to get a more relaxed position from going down a size or are Orions on the more aggressive side.

    2. Is it worth fiddleing around with stems or spacers to get it more relaxed or is this not the best way to go about buying a bike.

    3. Is the Orion suited to me where I will use it for fitness, sportives and recreational or should I look at some other bikes. I was considering taking a look at the Look 566, Giant Defy composite, and that new Trek with the relaxed Geometry, it could be called a Dolmaine 4.1 or something like that.

Any help with my dilema especially from Orion owners and how they experience there bikes.

    Thanks.

    Hey,

I just got a Ridley Orion with 105 as my training bike,I just got it yesterday and I'll know better after this week end is over what it's like,I have planed to do 250km over week end so it will give me a good idea what there like, from feed back from others on here they sound like a good bike,

    I'm 5'9"/5'10" and I went for the small,it's a 54cm IMO but on a fine line,what hight are you ?

I'd be thinking a bigger bike would be more comfy than a small, the defy is a very comfy bike and might suit you better, there is a bike shop in Donegal doing giants at good prices and mcconveycycles.com is another good shop to try,I have got bikes off them in the past and found them good to deal with,

Have a good look around and see what you see,it's hard to get them out for a test ride, not many bike shops like giving them out,but I can understand that too,

    Cheers zip,

I'd say you would be size small.it's 53.5cm top tube,I used it on the turbo for a hour on Thursday eve when I was setting it up,they are a big bike for size small, the med would have been far to big for me,

What spec Orion are you going for ?

    Hi Zip,

Thanks for the info. I am just under 5ft 9in and I take a pance in 31 in leg and I Found the small Orion huge. It could be taken in to account that I am coming from a flat handled road bike (FCR 1, Giant) and I am not used of drops but I did try small in a Scott which felt very comfortable in size, also the (orion)bike was fitted with wider than normal drops.

I am calling in next week to look at a smaller size but it will be on some other make with equivilant geometry as they do not have an Orion in XS in stock. Looking online at some reviews I have seen people around my size going for XS as well as S. I would be really interested in how you get on with your 250KM (fair play to ya) over the weekend. Especially around Comfortable ride, how aggressive did you find it any any other coments you have.

I will also be trying out an Eddy Merckx EMX 1 with 105 but it is nearly €500 dearer than the Orion with Ultegra. Anyone with opinions on that bike would be appreciated.

    Thanks Aero Bar

    Hey,

I done 137km today on the Ridley Orion today and plan on doing the same distance again tomorrow all going well,I can't fault the bike at all,we done plenty of climbs and bad roads, going by what you are saying I'd be thinking you should try the defy before you make up your mind, they have a long head tube so it won't be as low at the front and it might suit you better, that said the Ridley is a great bike from what I know so far, between tomorrow and the coming week I should have another 450/500km done on it if the weather holds up,the Ridley is a racing bike, the reason I'm thinking the defy for you is I had a defy before and they have a nice comfy riding position and that sounds like what your after, have a good look around before you decide on what suits you best,

Medium. Small has a 54 top cube . Medium will measure out at 55.5 with a 10cms stem would be my advice
