On July 4th or 5th, I'll know if I got into any of the programming courses. I hope they're not too strict about who they accept.

Lads don't worry there are plenty of mature students in WIT including myself! Its a great spot and you won't feel out of place whatsoever.

I myself was very apprehensive going down on day 1 but after about 10 mins I had a heap of new friends in a similar situation. Now I've just finished 2nd year and I don't feel any bit out of place, Yes some of the rag week activities etc are aimed at the younger crowd but it doesn't really bother me too much as Id prefer to go to lectures than go drinking all day :)

THere is a mature student society who arrange activities during the years which Id encourage you to join on societies day ( usually in the first few weeks )

I was informed that I was accepted to DIT so it looks like I won't be going to WIT. WIT won't be making their offers available until the middle of July.

Congrats. Where did you hear that it won't be 'til mid July? I heard July 5th was the date.

But if I have a stroke on July 5th [from not hearing anything], I'm holding W.I.T. responsible. ;)

I was on the phone to W.I.T. about the date Mature Students should know. We will know whether we've been accepted by the end of this week. She said we will be notified both from the CAO and from W.I.T itself. Good luck everyone!

I logged into CAO and my DIT course is showing up, but no sign of WIT. I guess WIT isn't offering me a placement. :(

Are you applying as a Mature Student over age 23? If not, it may take longer to hear from them.

Yup, got my acceptance for advanced entry, too last week - phew!! Duffle coats and baked beans here I come!!

Hi. I was accepted into 3rd year of BA Hons Finance + Investment through the advanced entry system. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the schedule is likely to be like. How many hours a week in lectures or when do you get a timetable, is it when you go in on the first day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭johnnykilo

Yep, you get your timetable on the first day. Either your lecturer/Course leader will give it you or else all the timetables will be posted on a board near the School of Business office and you can ask in the School of Business office for a copy. Bear in mind though the timetable changes many times during the first week or 2, it's not unusual to have 2 or 3 timetable changes a day sometimes.

I don't know that course, but generally speaking all courses are between 25-35 hours a week. Most courses generally have a half day Friday, and there's usually 1 or 2 full (9-5 or 9-4 days). There's usually one other day where you might have a few classes in the morning and then one or 2 in the evening. None of these things are guaranteed but in my experience that's what usually happens.

    Hey, another one attending here!
I got offered my second choice of Health Promotion via the mature student route in July, as with the benefit of hindsight I had written my statement geared towards that rather than anything else.

Today, I got offered my first choice of Psychology via the points system...
I accepted it! Was all geared up for Health Promotion! :pac:

Congrats but if your first choice is in WIT don't forget about it just yet. There may be a drop out and you could transfer in. Put your name on the list when you start and you'll know within the fist two weeks I think!

Ah hello, I think I may have been misconstrued!
I got offered Health Promotion and accepted in July, but just accepted an offer on my first choice of Psychology there. Mad how one click changes ones life path :)

Anybody know if its too late for me to defer this year?

I applied as a mature student and was accepted for my course but it is looking like circumstances may not allow me to start this year, can I still defer or would I just lose my place?

No it's not too late. Far as I know you can defer up to Xmas. Few lads on my course done the same. Might be an idea to try it for a week or two to see if you can wrangle a way around it, things have a habit of working out.
