Hi all. Does anyone know where to get free internet access in Ennis town centre? Cafés, hotels and such.

    Thanks!

Is Templegate free? Lat time I was there (a few months ago now), it was a pay service.

The Pepper Mill on the Quin road is free and it's a nice place to get food.

I noticed today that Cafe Aroma have wifi.

Great idea for a thread - though people should distinguish if the wifi is free or a pay service.

Some of the eircom phoneboxes have wifi connections (one on bank place) that are free if you are an eircom customer

They are only free if you have the Eircom 24 meg broadband and phone package. Else they charge you a monthly fee for an account.

With the mc Donald's one, you need to ask for a scratch card with a code on it (provided by eircom)

Actually, if you had a few of these built up, you could probably use them on the pay phone hotspots? Cards don't seem to be mc Donald's branded or anything.

Just got an eReader from the states that requires an open Wifi hotspot to set up - need to find somewhere tomorrow. I really need one that has no front end etc. or it won't work. Any ideas?

The Old Ground or Knox's are the first 2 that come to mind for me

Barneys and Dennis' Den both have free wifi as well. Just ask the staff for the password.

Dan O'Connells has free wifi also, Costa has as well but you have to get a bitbuzz card from the servers.

There's free wifi at supermac's, its an eircom one but its completely free.

There's also free wifi at the new fast food place beside the old ground as far as I know.

You need to go to the eircom homepage and log in using the details on the cards like you do in McDonald's I'd say. Don't think it'd work for what's needed.

The last time I was in supermacs, I just connected to it, and clicked enter on the homepage. I didn't need any card or password at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,543 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I don't think you could do that with an e-reader though.

A lot of ereaders don't all for data entry so open Wifi is the way to go, that's why I love my kindle :)

Set up my eReader but just got a new laptop for Christmas and nearly went over the download limit on the O2 setting it up. Need to find a place I can be around for half an hour or so to download some updates.

Does the Temple Gate still have free Wifi? I used to go to the Old Ground sometimes too, though they didn't have it in the restaurant(of which I was actually a regular customer at the time).

Full coverage in all areas of the Old Ground now

I was in Supermacs yesterday and I connected no hassle. The problem is it was very slow. There are a few apartments in the vicinity and everyone is probably logging into it.

Any chances of making a sticky with all the free wifi hots spots in Clare listed and links to those establishments?

Aren't there apps that provide that info now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 787 ✭✭✭folamh

^ Well, not everyone uses apps.

Added to list: Food Heaven in the market.

This thread hasn't been updated for this year except for a request for it to be stickied, I don't see any need to sticky it.

Sticky threads can make mobile use of the site difficult so that's why we try to minimize them by the way.

Actually no. That is not how it works.

    http://www.eircom.net/wifihub/register-eircom-wifi-hotspot/

You either have to have a high-end Eircom broadband package OR pay a monthly fee to use those hotspots.

Some of those businesses offer one hour single usage cards which you can purchase for €20 to log on to the above listed hotspots for 60 minutes.

That hasn't been my experience, I get free wifi access when I use my local hotel, café and activity centre as a customer. It's also free in McDonald and Supermac's too for customers as far as I know.

Perhaps you might report back if you find other places :)

Edit: Just remembered that Tesco provide free Wifi but you might have to use your clubcard number to access it.

I have a Vodafone and O2 smartphone so I've no need to use public wifi anymore as I always seem to get excellent coverage on 1 or the other.

I know Supermac's and McDonalds have Eircom Wifi and its definately free. You just accept the terms and conditions and you're in.

Glór and the Old Ground have free Wifi also.
