US Open 2012 [NO STREAMS!]

The tee times are out for the US Open - McIlroy, Donald and Westwood have been grouped together. Woods has been grouped with Mickelson and Bubba.

I doubt Rory is overly happy with having to play with Lee Westwood for 2 days.

friends or not, those are 2 great groups for the viewers.

Wow big groupings. Are they random or carefully selected for tv coverage. Think it would be more equitable to have random groupings especially since it could give some amateurs and low profile professionals some of the limelight for a couple of days.

I fancy Westy or Luke, think its there time now.
Lee has a new putter too and it didn't seem to let him down today either.

Think luke will struggle with the length there dude, few par 4s over 500 yards, i could be wrong but we will see. Dont fancy westy cos the greens are very very tough

I think it will be some relatively low key U.S. player who wins, kind of a Lucas Glover type character.

    Random like every other tournament
Random tee times too I'd say

Actually like some other big tournaments they are hand picked. There are also some traditional groupings but they are at the discretion of the organisers.

For example this is from 2010:

Think Furyk will go well. Likes the type of set up and showing some form.

Mickleson won't like that grouping, he tried to out-do Bubba at every chance last week and failed misrebly.

    I was able to find the US Open tee times anywhere else in an easy format so I've added them here;
US Open 1st round tee times

Does anyone know when the "to be determined" players will be confirmed and on what basis they'll be picked?

    oostuizen at 59/1
    mcilroy at 16/1

surely 16/1 is a big price for a guy who won this last year, hits it miles and was in contention last week? Wasnt he like 8/1 at the masters?

Can't wait for this as it's a brilliant course from what I saw of it in the President's Cup a few years ago now. Tiger enjoyed himself that week.

I think the Presidents cup was held at a different course in San Francisco, it wasn't the Olympic Club.

I've given up betting after having Bubba as the money winner for this year and then him taking weeks off but as an outsider I'd fancy Ken Duke, consistent if not spectacular

Absolutely. It's up there with the "ROSE BLOOMS" headlines bi-annually, usually followed up with "ROSE WILTS" a day or two later.

That said, I do think Woods is back. You heard it here. ;)

Must admit I can see Kuchar going well, having challenged at Augusta and playing so well as an amateur at the Olympic Club back in '98.

Bubba Watson could run away with it (hear me out here!); the way he can shape the ball is exactly what you need off the tee around that place, and he won't even need the driver to do it, at least not as much as the other players. That said, I think he'll give the big dog the benefit of the doubt whether he needs it or not, and is therefore as likely to blow up and miss the cut as he is to contend.

Regardless, I said I'd be backing Westwood after Augusta no matter what his odds were, and I'm sticking to it. He's the best ball-striker in the world and what's more, he knows it. After Sweden, his confidence must be crazy high and I really think he'll go in feeling that Olympic was made for him. If the course is set up like '98 it'll be hack it out sideways stuff off of missed fairways, and Westwood's consistency with the driver can make up for an average, if not a poor, putting week. I think if he stops feeling he's owed a major, this'll be his week!

I'm pretty sure it was in Harding Park and not Olympic.

Am not sure about the Bubba theory. The show I was watching last night said it suited right handers who fade the ball where as at Augusta it was opposite. I know he can do it both ways but think he is more comfortable with the fade (it's really a slice but for pro's it's called a fade or at worst a power fade!!)

Hasn't Tiger won twice in five starts?

On recent form, those prices aren't far off.

    Backing D. Johnson myself.

I think we all know the difference in a slice and a fade, the same way we nkow the diff in a draw and a hook ;)

Yeah and he pulled out of 2 of the others. Rorys form has been a heap of top 5s and 2 wins. Minus the 3 missed cuts but thats besides the point lol. Good outing last week too, i just think its madness the way Tiger is twice the favourite to win as rory is, considering he won it last year too

Ive played with a few 15 yr olds that would hit irons into 500+ yarders so I dont think that 14 yr old will have much probs hitting irons into that first hole, that is of course if he doesnt end up in the trees :)

He also blew up at the Masters in the same year.

Odds on Majors are not the same as regular tour events.

Mickelson is hacking about alot lately and you'll still find him short enough in odds, given form.

The favourites are generally the ones who have been proven to get it done consistently.

Couldn't be having McIlroy a short price favourite in any major just yet, just my two cents.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭ssbob

Harrington will have a good tournament I feel, he really does prefer low scoring tough courses and his driving accuracy and GIR stats have improved immensely this year. I predict a Top 10 for Harry Paddington.

Think Martin Kaymer is due a good tournament and he is a natural fader of the golf ball with a great temperment(spelling) for the game. Possible winner.

David Toms is also very accurate off the tee and could be in contention.

    For me Tiger wins though.

And Tiger fits into that category? 8 years ago he might have, not any more IMO. Ah we'l just agree to disagree :)

I'm not convinced Rory can handle the pressure. His hook shot on 18 just showed that again last week.

Dont think its a matter of that anymore, hes used to it now. That little mishap on 18 was more from adrenaline from the 17th birdie if you ask me, that tied with the fact he birdied 18 friday and saturday meant probably the exact opposite, really went after it as he fancied himself for the bird

I'd have to disagree, I don't think it was anything but nerves, not adrenaline. Same shot on the 10th in the Masters last year
