    Maths is by far my best subject! Just a little handy tip. On all the solving questions, if you get an answer for x, sub your x value back in with your calculator to see if you're right. Works a charm for me,

    I just get so confused when we have to build the equation.
    Like all the english in it is frustrating. If they gave us the equation, I'd have no bothers. Building it, I go completely wrong and then get a crazy answer.

    I think I can manage the vast majority of the paper. I just dread Venn Diagrams so much. We've practiced a tonne of questions in class, so I feel a lot more confident compared to the Mocks...

    Just a little simpler than the one above me.

    Bigger - Small = Difference.

    200 people. x rows = 200/x.

    200 people. 3 less rows. 15 extra seats = 200/x-3.

    200/x-3 is bigger than 200/x. (If you get stuck, just use a number. 200/7 is 26. 200/10 is 20.)

    So, bigger - smaller = difference.
    200/x-3 - 200/x = 15

    Get rid of fractions and you're flying.

    I'm going over nothing, I'll just do an exam paper. I'd suggest you know functions, they are definites.

    I've been looking over the exam papers and I can't figure out how to do 2010 Paper 1, Question 2 part c. The marking scheme is no help to me either. I managed to get as far as 20r(25/100) but can't get past that.

    Could someone explain how to do this please? Much obliged. :)

    You need to know everything, as theres a good chance it will come up. Venn diagrams always show up.

    I dont know what to think about it. In the mocks I got a D1. Was one of the few in my year to pass it, never mind get a high D. I also know a lot more now because my teacher has went through everything very well. But I still have the feeling I'll forget everything, or it'll be a deadly paper. Hopefully it all goes well.

    Okay. There are 200 journos. X (8) rows. If we divide the two we should get the amount of chairs per row.

    Number of seats/Number of Rows = Number of seats per row

    They found 15 seats less were needed in each row.
    Which is bigger x or x-3 (8 or 5) . Obviously x.
    The bigger the number on the bottom, smaller overall.
    200/x-3 is bigger than 200/x
    200/5 is bigger than 200/8
    40 is bigger than 25.

    However we have to organise the x crap in such a way that the left is equal to the right, without knowing the figures.
    Bigger - smaller equals difference.
    Lets check
    200/x - 200/x-3 =15
    200/8 - 200/5 = 15
    25 - 40 =15
    This is wrong.
    In the exam, pump any number into the calculator to see if equation is correct. It doesn't have to be the same number.
    Lets check
    200/x-3 - 200/x =15
    200/5 - 200/8 = 15
    40 - 25 =15
    Ahoy, hoy! We have an equation that makes sense.
    200/x - 200/x-3 =15
    Unfortunetly, we have to use quadratics in the exam as we are working in xs. I hope this made it a bit clearer, My brain is a mess, not exactly a qualified teacher.

    (i)= 200/x

    (ii)= 200/x-3 - 200/x

    (iii) 200/x-3 - 200/x = 15 (and then you work it out).

    Am I right?

    Add up all the no.
    26x+x+18-x+20-x-2x=amount in France only
    46+18-3x=amount in France only
    64-3x=universal set
    64-3x=70
    -3x=70-64
    -3x=6
    x=-2

    France is 18-x
    so it is 18-2
    ans=16

    Theorem of Pythagoras = a^2 + b^2 = c^2
    In this triangle (x + 1)^2 + (x+2) ^2 = (2x+2)^2

    (x+1) ^2
    x(x +1) +1(x+1)
    x^2 + x +x + 1
    x^2 + 2x +1

    (x+2) ^2
    x(x +2) +2 (x+2)
    x^2 +2x +2x +4
    x^2 +4x +4

    (2x + 2 ) ^2
    2x(2x +2) +2(2x+2)
    4x^2 +4x +4x +4
    4x^2 + 8x +4

    So that leaves us with
    2x^2 +6x +5 = 4x^2 +8x +4
    0=2x^2 +2x -1

    Part (ii)
    -b +/- sqrt (b^2 -4ac) all divided by 2a.
    That leaves you with x = -1.36 and 0.36

    5(a) The line is 5x -12
    f(a) means where ever you have x sub in a
    5a -12 = a (We are told the line equals a.)
    4a = 12
    a = 3

    I don't know if I'm a bit late but i hope this helps! :) we know that €30 interest was gained, because 25% was deducted from the interest that means €40 is the full amount. 40 divided by 2000 and multiplied by 100 will give you the value of r, I hope that made sense! :)
