But he's not now, he's on tour! McIlroy was +5 as well, as was Wayne Telford last year, +4 now

    McIlroy was actually +6

"Rory was a scratch player by the age of 12. His handicap now is plus six and he is a two-time Irish amateur champion and current European amateur champion".

I've found the low lads are usually either dead sound guys or else guys who know their good and wouldn't be slow to let you know how good they are. I've found its one extreme or the other.

I think this applies to every member in my club ;)

+5/+6 is absolutely sick, Lowry was a +5 in Esker Hills alright, before he turned Pro. I heard Sergio hit +7 but could be wrong. Must have been a Micky Mouse golf course :)

I always thought, +6 was as low as you can go, but I stand Corrected,
There is a guy in Sydney, Australia that plays off an amateur handicap of +8 at Castle Hill Country Club.

A buddy I play a bit with got to +5 a few weeks ago, for a week or so, back to +4 now......:P

Can that be right? It's insane! I'd feel so inadequate there.

It's probably to do with them poaching the best players from other clubs. When I was in Howth and I remember Royal Dublin poaching Liam Brady's 2 nephews of us, Liam and Eamonn. A long time ago, but I think Liam was off scratch and Eamonn was +2 at the time. There was war over it

so if you've a + handicap, do they actually add shots onto your score in strokes and remove points on stapleford?

how does it work on a card then, do they make you add a net shot on index 1 or 18 if you're off +1?

As far as I know it's no shots anywhere & minus on your... ah here it's too hard to explain without example. Stableford, on Index 18 & 17 you've minus a shot if you're off +2. So it's Birdie for 2pts and Par for 1pt on those holes.

Does anyone know how the Fourball works if you're off +2.6 let's say and it's 3/4 handicaps? Do you go to +1.95? In that case so in effect you could be better off?

I'd imagine the Island have a rake of low men. Have a terrible rep for hovering up the promising young players, two of which I know and had no links to the club beforehand.

Lowest in black bush is scratch.

By +5 do you mean a 5 handicaper? Hard to believe there are that many +5 handicapers in Europe not to mind in one Irish club. Is there not a standardised format where players the other side of scratch are deemed + players, some places however seem to list them as - players.

The former Down football midfielder Conor Deegan is supposed to have some outrageous handicap like +3 or +4. Big man. Hits it a good trip by all accounts. Open to correction on the handicap.

    1 off +2
    2 off +1
    4 off scratch
    5 off 1
    6 off -2
    6 off -3
    9 off -4
    16 off -5

won't bother with the high handicappers lol!! (only j/k)

Thats a genuine story, he plays out of Limerick golf club. not going to say his name as its not my business to, but anyone who plays there would probably know him.

PS, he was 6 under after 10 holes there recently only to finish 4 under. The course record held by none less then Tiger Woods is 8 under par.

Yes, although Woods only holds that record as they decided to DQ stuart appleby for using a range finder. Yes woods hit his playing partners wooden club on 1 hole and it was deemed ok. Suspect rules decision to ensure the have the marketing power of tiger as their course record holder.

In relation to the bloke your talking about i have no idea who it is and i've played numerous senior cup and barton shield matches against limerick. Is it DG?
