    Friday 16th November

    3.30 miles in 32:12 mins @ 9:46 mins/mile

Twas meant to be just an easy 3 miler. However found out that I didn't do the pyramid strides correctly on Wednesday so incorporated one more into today's run. Done 1.78 of an easy run then started the pyramid with the following paced strides:

    21secs @ 6:09, 41 Secs @ 6:51, 1 Min @ 6:36, 40 @ 6:45 & 20 Secs @ 7:06

Pacing was a bit all over the place again but I think the real purpose was to just get the body used to running at pace. Finished it off with an easy run home.

    Saturday 10th November

    8.25 miles in 82:25 mins @ 10 mins/mile
Started this off very easy, was cold so took a little longer to warm up. Pace gradually picked up a little as it went on.

    Monday 19th November

    4.24 miles in 43:07 mins @ 10:10 mins/mile

Trying not to have two days off in a row. Haven't yet got the idea of cross training! So didn't get out yesterday as was going to Disney on Ice in Belfast.

First Monday run for a while (quite a while if you don't count the marathon). A bit wet and windy out but would take that anytime over ice.

    Tuesday 20th November

    4.25 miles in 41:42 @ 9:49 mins/mile

It was wet and windy again this morning and I was feeling a little sluggish starting off so I just pressed the start button on the garmin, covered it up and didn't bother to look at it going around. Wasn't bothered in the slightest about the pace. Mind was already thinking about tomorrows session and where on my route the intervals would kick in. So was pleasantly surprised about the pace when I finished as had I guessed before looking I thought it felt like a 10:15 - 20 average pace of a run.

    Wednesday 21st November

    6.21 miles in 56:54 @ 9:!0 mins/mile

Todays session was to go as follows:
1 Mile easy followed by 1/2 mile intervals @ 5k pace with 3 mins recovery x 5 and then 1 mile or so warm down

This was the first real session that I have ever tried so it was a bit daunting heading out for it. Had the garmin properly setup this time and glad I did as it meant I didn't really need to be looking at it too much bar a quick glance to see how longs left! As the workout was setup on the Garmin I had to start the intervals when it told me rather than wait for a nice spot on my route. This made sense anyway as it would have been impossible not to have some lnclines on my route given the length of the intervals. The plan was to keep the pace between 7 & 7:30 mins/mile. The splits were:
    1. 0.5 @ 7:03
    2. 0.5@ 7:06
    3. 0.5 @ 7:19
    4: 0.5 @ 7:22
    5 0.5 @ 7:22

A bit of variance of paces between them but at least they were all within my target pace range. The first one was of course the easiest and the best evenly paced one. The second one was over probably the flattest part of the route with no inclines at all. I went out far to fast at the start of this one and struggle near the end of it. This happened again for the third one and struggle even more as I had a small climb at the end of it. The fourth one had the hardest climb which seen pace drop a bit. Had to really psych myself to get the last one done, my recovery mins were finishing at the enterance of my estate so would have been so easy to call it a morning. The recovery paces for the first 3 were quite similar but really dropped in pace after the last two.

Anyways glad to get it done.

I was thinking us 5k'ers got the toughest of the 3 sessions but then I looked at Career Move's log and she was running two mile intervals at the same pace:eek:.

Seen that you are out of action for last few days. Hope you get back on the road soon. I'm sure you would have a nice PB in you if you got to waterford in good form.

Yeah C_M is working hard as well.

I have some bug, you know that feeling were you've no energy and just feel tired all the time. Hopefully it will be over me before the weekend.
I doubt I'd get a pb in Waterford though, even if I was fit. I ran a 5km race at the weekend and my time was crap to say the least.

A Marathon can really test the immune system. I had constant head colds and bugs for months after the marathon last year. Best to rest up and get it out of the system.

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself about the 5k time. I would say if you done a couple of them on consecutive weeks or close together you would come on alot from them. Especially since you haven't got stuck into much speed work yet, it was probably a shock to the system.

Sorry to hear your not well rasher. I was really looking forward to meeting you in Waterford. Maybe if you're feeling better next week you might run it as a training run?!

+1 on this. I had a sore throat for two weeks after the marathon and even now when I wake up in the mornings my throat is really dry.

Starting to like these little recovery runs, so glad that they have a purpose!

    Friday 23rd November

    4.25 miles in 41:58 @ 9:52 mins/mile

    An easy run with a set of pyramid strides thrown in the middle. Paces for the strides were 20 secs @ 6:17, 40 @ 6:27, 1 min @ 6:57, 40 @ 6:52 & 20 @ 6:55. Still a work in progress!

    Saturday 24th November

    11.04 miles in 1 hr 55:58 mins @ 10:30 mins mile

This was a strange one. The overnight frost had been forecasted so heading out I was wondering would I get going far at all. First two miles averaged over 11 mins a mile and it was just a case of minding your footing in places. Not sure whether the conditions improved or I just became more confident (or careless) but the pace slowly improved. This was only meant to be an easy run and given the conditions didn't really care about pace. Took a bit of a detour off my usual route to explore another road which lead me on to a nice trail and then another back road. Plan to try and add to my routes in the future just to mix things up.

    Sunday 25th of November

    3.06 miles in 31:10 @ 10:10 mins/mile

Legs felt a bit tensed up after yesterdays run so planned a short one this morning to lossen them up a bit. No black ice to worry about this morning. But it was very very cold!

35 mile week - not so shabby ;)

Some great running Dazza, keep it up! I feel lazy reading about your consistent runs at such early hours.

When I start my runs depends on when I need to be finished by and how long it takes. Mrs dazza on maternity leave now so that gives an extra hour in the mornings (extra hour in bed that is :))

Slight miscalculation last week in that I ran on Monday (which I rarely do) with the intention of taking Friday off as a rest day. Kind of forgot about that at the end of the week. :o

Will probably have to start doing some of that cross training stuff and start doing some core exercises too!

Due in 3 or so weeks not that they usually pay too much attention to due dates!

    Tuesday 27th November

    3.07 miles in 30:26 @ 9:55 mins/mile

Was quite mild out this morning compared to Sunday morning. Still a couple of patches of black ice. Might just have to get used to that. Done a bit of core exercises yesterday and my upper legs were feeling the effects today. I think the run helped loosen things out a bit.

    Wednesday 28th November

    4.25 miles in 40:26 @ 9:31 mins/mile

An easy run with a set of pyramid strides thrown in the middle. A nice morning with no sign of the forecasted frost. Ran the strides by feel without checking on pace, average paces were:

    20 Secs @ 5:49, 40 Secs @ 6:26, 1 Min @ 6:56, 40 Secs @ 6:38 20 Secs @ 6:17.

Was interupted during the 1 min stride, a car pulled out of a side road making come to a quick stop. There all still a work in progress though!

Need a bit of hardening up anyway.

Once you get that first mile done temperature doesn't really matter, you just make everyone else feel cold when they drive past seeing you in a t-shirt and shorts :D
