I screwed up big time I feel like hitting myself. Both the English paper 1 and paper 2 was so easy. Everything I studied came up. The fact that I'm a slow writer didn't help matters at all. I ended up writing nothing for unseen fiction and only wrote half an answer for unseen poetry.

What does this mean? Does it mean I'm going to end up with a C or a D?

    I'm so pissed off.

If you're paper was up to scratch you'll get yourself a B :) don't panic

I'm sure you'll do better than you think. Just put it out of your mind and focus on Irish now.

Agree with the above. Don't panic about it, but learn from the experience (best and all that you can do).

Be sure of the time you have per question and stick to it. If you have 15mins for a question and you're not done, move on and come back if you have time.

Best of luck in the rest.

    🤪

    Ah don't go hitting yourself.

It will probably mean you will end up with a C or doubtfully a D, depends on how well you did with Paper 1 and the other questions on Paper 2.

I also struggled with Paper 2, I felt there was way too many questions.

I felt Paper 1 should have been 2 hours and Paper 2, 3 hours.

I managed to write a 6 page essay, and do 2 pages at minimum for paper 1 and had time to revise it and relax at the end, however I struggled with Paper 2 and barely finished it and all the answers, I know for a fact weren't long enough.

At the end of the day, you did what you did, it's only the Junior Cert, don't hate yourself for it and worry about your other exams :P

Well the good thing is you completed Paper 1 :)
With Paper 2, you will get probably 3/4 marks for the Unseen Poetry. For Unseen Ficiton, you have lost 30 marks bits it's not the end of the world. I'd say you could still get a very high C or a low B. they are still great scores :)

And hey, that's 1 exam out of 11(or 12). Concentrate now on Irish and you will get a great mark.

It's better to be a slow writer as opposed to a bad one ;)

And it's definitely better than having bad handwriting....I'll be lucky if my exam is even graded! ...they tend to judge you by your writing unfortunately :/

Speaking of which, it was an exercise in bureaucracy to get more paper! Bloody pen pushers!

Don't worry, during the mock I didn't do any of the unseen fiction due to time and did a rushed unseen poetry and still got 79% which I was pretty happy with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭orriray59

How do you guys come up with 6 page essays? Bloody hell! I did like 7 pages all in all for the entire Paper 2. Felt it was easy. I finished Paper 2 easily enough with time to spare and couldn't finish Paper 1, funnily enough.

I really messed up though and the poetry question. I didn't know it meant two poems, I only did one.

You had time in Paper 2? :o There was talk on the radio from teachers that it was the hardest in years!
But who am I to judge, you could be a Shakespeare descendant!

It's odd. I finished Paper 2 well inside the time but didn't finish Paper 1.:pac:

I felt all relaxed in Paper 1, taking my time. Did everything except the 70 marker as I left that for the end. The time absolutely flew by. I felt really bad after it, but then I put balls to the wall and just continuously wrote until I was finished in Paper 2.

Irish tomorrow. OL is easy enough, should be okay.

For my functional writing I did the reaction to the computer scheme. I wrote mine in the 3rd person and spoke about how to students were unhappy rather than "I" . Will I be graded down much because of this ?

Messing up on something minor doesn't mean D/low C.

The Paper 2 seriously needs to be looked at by the department. I would consider myself an extremely fast writer and I just finished the paper with 5 minutes to go. I'm really happy with the paper though! Unseen fiction was actually very difficult!

You all had a difficult time finishing Paper Two? I found it super simple and was finished with a FULL 45 minutes to spare. Wrote an A4 page on each individual question, totaling 3 pages per section, 9 pages for the exam.

I then attempted an extra question and left with 30 minutes to spare LOL

Yeah I thought paper 1 was the more time consuming of the two.

I made a mistake on paper 2 and spent 15 minutes writing about a novel for the drama section, but still managed to finish with 10 minutes left,

I even managed to stick to the timings of each section - 45 minutes, but I then realized that that only adds up to 2.15 hours lol :P

Gee guys you're all making me feel so much better. >.<

Meh, I'm done raging. Now I'm just depressed. I'm going to end up with a bad score anyways, I just hope I'll end up doing higher level English for the Leaving Cert, if that's even possible.

Would you like to leave people alone when they are trying to discuss how long the papers took them to complete / how hard they were unless you have something useful to add? Also, I don't need a medal, I have enough Bank of Ireland & Chanel College student of the year trophies.. but thanks for offering :)

Dear lord. I only did about 3 pages. Our teacher recommended to do about 2 and 1/2 pages, but I did the 3 to be safe. Your hand must have been handing off you.
If I remember correctly, I did question 3 in personal writing, what did you write on?

I agree with you about paper two having too many questions and not enough time.

So, basically, you rushed it? I answered about 1 and 1/2 pages to 2 pages on each question, giving about 4 pages on each section.

There's no need to undermine others to assure you've made the correct decisions.

Of course it's possible. If you've been consistently good at it they won't just kick you in the balls because of a bad Junior Cert. After all you've never been through an exam this nerve wracking, it's understandable if you mess up you're first time.

Really? Don't you need to get honours to get in?

That depends on your school, but if you have been successfully following a Higher level course for Junior and have a blip on the day in the exam, your teachers would be mad not to leave you in Higher.
Of course, you don't know yet how you did in the exam, wait and see.
