Fish Fingers - a good source of,eh, fish?

Ignoring the breadcrumbs and whatever they're stuck together with, am I actually getting any fishy benefits from fish fingers or is it negligible in the context of whatever other fat and rubbish is in the fingers? Also are some fish fingers more equal to real fish than others? I try to stick with Birdseye..

I ended the "student diet" type lunch and dinners about a year and a half or two years ago and have been continually adding "good stuff" to my regular meals, but I just CAN'T get into fish / seafood. Cod liver oil and fish fingers are my only source of Surf food.

But when I look down at my plate of 5 or 6 fish fingers (which is roughly the size of a fish..) and vegetables, I can't help but think I'm eating no better than a 3 yr old!

Also - opinions on Tuna steak? I'm told it tastes like meat but I smelt a can of tuna once and am tentative to willingly buy some tuna...

Canned mackeral fillets or sardines don't taste fishy, delicious on toast or tinned salmon in a sauce with pasta.

Salmon! I've had that before and it was ok, completely forgot about it.

Sardines though...I've had one of them before. That must have been the slimiest / saltiest piece of dead mucus I've ever tasted  I reckon they're probably the benchmark for why fish in general turns my stomach.

I use to feel the same about fish, now I live on the stuff.
most fish deli's do nice flavored fresh fish, or why not try make up or own sauce on put it on. Or of you want pre pack stuff try some smoked Salmon or mackerel - Delish :D
Those fish fingers are full of crap with no decent taste or health benefit at all imo.

However I'll agree with this sardines are not nice at all.

fish fingers are only about 60% fish & 40% breadcrumb
better going for Donegal Catch Chunky Cod or something similar, they'll be closer to 80%

And those are the expensive ones.

To be honest, in my opinion, trying to get the benefits of fish from fish fingers is like getting the benefits of meat from cat food.

Fish shouldn't smell fishy as such, but there is an element of fishiness involved.

If your not into fish, don't do it. Take a cod liver tablet with your tea in the morning, and try to stay clean diet wise. While fish and seafood are great sources of protein for people who like fish and seafood, they are not for every one. I, personaly, cant handle protein shakes. Way too heavy. Give me a dozen oysters instead anyday(costs a lot more though unfortunately)

Some people swear by raw eggs. Me? Can't do it. But I could live solely on boiled ones. Don't force yourself to eat anything, because after a few days a nice tasty Micky D's cheeseburger and fries will just attract you like a siren. Find stuff you like and you will stay clean longer.

Shop-bought fish fingers could be full of anything. I think they're the fish equivalent of hotdogs (or snouts and tails as Mum calls them). You could make your own fish fingers or breaded fish?

A lot of fish fingers are made from Pollock, get a nice piece at a fish counter, slice it into strips, roll in a beaten egg and in breadcrumbs then fry/grill. Or make salmon fishcakes in the same way? Mix some cooked salmon with a bit of left-over mashed potato, onion & peas, then coat with egg & breadcrumbs and fry/grill. Delicious :)
