Are we all ready for this?

Spent a long time today preparing for this, going over the food commodities for Q1 and Social Studies and some consumer studies as well.

    Be grand!

I really hope B group vitamins don't come up :(

Their functions are so hard to remember.

Soooooo much stuff, how can any of us remember it all!? Lets hope for a handy paper :)

I'm hoping for a nice Q1 on carbohydrates cereals and some vitamin. Although I did get Lipids in my mock :/

Did anyone else think that was a hard paper?

Short questions were beautiful but apart from that o_O didn't like that chart. Didn't like that chart one bit...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭angela1711

The chart on q1 was weird and the question a in the elective 3 was weird as well other than that it was a grand paper :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Fergus_

    I don't think I did that well :/

I kinda waffled a lot on some of the questions, hopefully I scrape a C1! :p

The standard was definitely higher than the ones in the exam papers anyway, I was hoping for a dietary requirement question :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭angela1711

Anyway it is over now !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭Siobhnk

Spent all night learning RDAs and nothing came up :L ah well threw a few in anywhere I could. But I definitely didn't get the A I was hoping for :( the chart was really weird, very repetitive.

    Yes!!

Firstly I don't think a parent with a disability is in life lines is it? (Long Q 5 part ii) I dont remember doing it anyway.

Most people thought the Short Questions were easy, I thought they were only ok.

Carbohydrates was grand, so was fruit and veg, vitamin A (Q2)

In Elective One the heating system was so hard!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,693 ✭✭✭Whatsisname

Short Q's weren't as bad as I expected, tried to bull**** my way through 1 or 2 of them but genuinely knew a lot. The chart was boring the hell out of me, it was so repetitive!

I was the last one in my exam centre finishing it and I still didn't get it finished, we should have gotten 3 hours, but oh well, its over now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭bluugirl

I thought the short qs and the elective 3 was grand but I thought some of the long qs were a bit strange...especially q1a I felt like I was saying the same thing over and over again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Fergus_

Now I'm starting to worry a little lol.

I filled in everything with what I could, but I dunno if it was just waffle or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 pinkapple18

I thought the paper was STUNNING- Okay, there was certainly some odd questions, but overall I'm happy!

Just a quick question- for the mock I was stuck for time, and today I was finished a good half hour early....bare in mind I knew most of the answers and wrote like a bullet...should I be worried? :P

    Exact same here! :)
Apart from the chart was grand. Such lovely short Qs!
I was finished ages early too, did an extra Q. So hopefully we'll be okay. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭Manic2

The paper was reallllllly nice! Easiest I've seen in ages!

    SQ were only mediocre.

Q1 was brill! I almost cried with happiness when I saw carbs I swear ha! Last part I messed up though I said the wrong thing, and the hydrolysis was awkward.

Q2 was nice. Just happened to do Vit A 10 minutes before exam so lucky me! :)

Q4 was the last one I did as I knew the least about it, but went ok, even if it was rushed because I had 15 minutes left when I started it.

Elective 3 was lovely. Part i was a nice general Q and I knew a lot from business anyway. Did part c then, could have wrote pages on that.

Overall, coupled with my journals I tried calculating what I may have gotten and came out with a 77% so I'm delighted with that! :D

I think it was a generally waffle-y paper tbh. If thats good or bad, I dunno. :)

In the pre I was able to 3 questions besides the B1, but today my hand was literally DEAD after doing just the two! But overall I thought it was a BEAUTY of a paper! All of my teachers predictions came up! :D So happy with it! :)

You're all making me feel bad now :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 aineeeeee

I thought it was an ok paper, the more I think about it the more I worry. The short questions were brilliant - though are speciality foods and private health insurance on the course? I'd never ever seen them before!
Question one, of course, was bizarre and weird. Not a clue how I answered it. :pac:
Did question 2 and 5 and they were fine, though I had to use my intivative a good bit. The social elective was great apart from the part 1 (ii) - the 20 marker on geography, global economy and goods/services? I thought it was more common sense than the course - someone who'd spent their time reading the paper instead of studying would have done fantastically! It was a very applied paper, not particularly rewarding for people who learned their stuff...but oh well! A little cop on goes a long way! ;)

Glad I'm not the only one who thought it was repetitive! Question: What exactly did you say? SO worried i wrote all the wrong type of thing :(

Also, anyone else pissed that there was no appliance? :o managed Q2 anyway...but if only the kettle had come up
As for the social elective, found myself waffling on 1ai) It was a stupid table and i didnt know what i specifically needed to write! And dont get me started on the short questions! I'll be lucky to get a B3 :(

YES! Or no resource management, didn't even consider finance as a possibility.
Yeah 3ai was quite confusing. I just wrote anything I knew on unemployment basically :/

Oh god in 3 a I just started going on about the germans, the troika, fiscal treaty etc :L Basically any word I heard on the news for the past few weeks I threw it down :P

I thought the short questions were difficult enough. The following were grand: about sodium, cholesterol, emulsifiers, areas of Irish food industry (I think), consumer information act, desk and field research, then the question on energy efficiency at the end, benefits of private health insurance. The other four were quite difficult. Do you know if you write four bullet points - e.g for the irish food industry you say:

    (i). Beef.
    (ii). Dairying.
    (iii). Poultry (wrong)
then write an extra point aside from the space provided
    (iv). Aquaculture/fishing.

Will they take your best three and still give you the marks?:/

Check the marking scheme, I'm not sure.
But for subjects like Biology if you gave 2 answers where you asked for one, and one was right and one wrong, the wrong once cancels out the right one and you get zero. :/
If they're all right though I'd assume you get the marks?

im just wondering did anybody else find home ec to be hard this year? i really wanted a B in it..but dont think i got it now after that paper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 CaoimheMj

    Home Ec. was super hard!
What was Q.1 about??? I know at this stage we shouldn't be doing an analysis but it has p****d me off big time! Really wanted a B aswell but no way is that happening now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭amyleaving

I agree! i was hoping for an A as it is my best subject. I got an A in the mock but i found the mock alot easier! The sec B was a bit of a joke! It was so vague and nothing like before.. lets just hope everyone found it hard so the marks will even out :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭wibblin

I thought it was horrible especially Q1, totally threw me off! was hoping for an A2 in it, but I'd would be lucky if I got a B3 after it! Total shambles! But I was talking to others in my school and they thought it was hard too so really hoping it'll be marked easier!

    Was quite dissappointed.
Went from and A1 in the mocks with NO study to a B2 in the real thing with a load of study. Thought the exam went well and was hoping for an A2. :/
Answered all the questions too ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 nowhere94

I havent heard of anyone get an A1 in it yet, even though there was 202..:pac: you can allways review it? :)

Haha well that was just in the mock.
I think I will, if I dont get my course anyways.
I dont understand how I coulda gone down when I actually studied this time, but then again maybe I misread questions and stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭Siobhnk

I got an A1. Believe me, there was no one more surprised than I was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭Siobhnk

Thank you :) No I haven't! I was the only one in my school that I know of!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭amyleaving

I got a b3 , i was in utter shock! I really don't know what happened, i might get it rechecked.

    Finally!
I dont mean that in a bad way but I thought I was the only one disappointed.
What were you expecting to get?
I wasn't too bothered about not getting an A at first, cos' my other results surprised me and brought me up, but now I'm thinking of definately getting my rechecked.
It just doesn't make sense that I could go from an A1 with VERY little study, to a B2 with a TON .. unless I'm missing something.
I thought the exam went well, and I answered every question ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭amyleaving

yea i agree!! well i did roughly the same amount of study for mocks and the real thing.
i got an a2 in my mock, i always got A's in class tests or anything, it was my best subject , i really can't explain it?
I thought the exam went fine like normal .. i suppose i'll try to get my teacher come and look at it with me, then appeal maybe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 923 ✭✭✭biohaiid

For the mocks I think I studied 3 nutrients and read over consumer studies and the elective. I don't think it was a fluke though, I actually found the exam okay.
So it just doesn't make sense to come down from that in the real thing.
Imagine if they forgot to add on the project score or something .. Oh god. :L
Anyways, I'm gonna do the same as you if I dont get my course Monday (If I do then I dont care about Home Ec :P).
Let me know how you get on and I'll do the same. :)

I got an A1, I was a repeat though, and worked really hard at it.

just to remind anyone reviewing home ec to remember to request the journal as well as they are stored separately so you need to request to view the paper and the journal !
don't know if they've changed things but it caused a lot of confusion in the beginning ( back on 2004 with the new course)
it does happen sometimes that the coursework may not be added on - but more common, is addition errors - so before you even reread the script tot up all the marks and make sure they are correct first ! its mad how easy it is to make a mistake adding up all the small marks!
the paper and journal will be rechecked seperately so make sure you make use of the insert page to point any areas where you feels marks were lost. -- marks may not make a grade difference say on the paper, but when combined with the coursework a few marks may make all the difference!
best of luck with everything !

Oh, I didn;t think we got to view the journals, thanks.
So what, do we just tick Hom Ec on the viewing sheet and when we go into the school for our viewing session remind them that we need to see the journals?
Or would I have to ring them in advance?
Yeah I'll be sure to add things up first. Can we bring calculators?
