Does anyone know if there is going to be a season 8 in Criminal minds? I love that show. I have recorded all over the place and keep having to watch past episodes in case I miss one.

Season 8 has been given the green light I wonder who will take over from Paget Brewster. I liked the lady who they had the season before. I thought she was given a raw deal by lots of fans because she took over from the JJ & Prentis

They hinted at her taking a role with Interpol in the last episode so I can see there being story that involves her

As long as there is not another disastrous spin-off.

Err...... Prentiss has left Criminal Minds for good. :( I don't think she is being replaced either which is good because she was one of my favourite characters and I think CM bosses have learned from the disaster that was the dull Seaver in Season 6.

    Source
Jeanne Tripplehorn will join Criminal Minds on CBS this fall as a series regular.
Tripplehorn replaces Paget Brewster, who left the procedural drama this year after seven seasons. “We’re thrilled to have Jeanne Tripplehorn join our team as a profiler,” said Executive Producer Erica Messer in a statement. “Her character will be introduced in the premiere. It’s an exciting way to start season 8.”

I'd like if they brought one of the members of the cancelled spin off show back as Prentiss's replacement Beth or Mick maybe

ohmygod.. I love Garcia.. she is so bubbly and funny. but my favorite has to be Dr. Reed. I just the reaction of local cops when there are called out somewhere and Reed starts quoting complicated stuff.

Really poor gurdt episode back. The plot was by the numbers, the villain was uninteresting and the new agents introduction and interaction with the team was about as interesting as watching a paper bag caught in a sewer grate. A very poor start to the new series and one of the worst episodes of the show to date.

agree totally with the above , absolutely ridiculous leap of logic to crack the case as well. Where this was really good a few seasons ago , now its just by the numbers.
Lazy start , gonna give it 2 or 3 more episodes to cop itself on. , then I'll be ditching it , which is a shame 8 seasons in.

At least they had the sense to have a secondary plot like CSI's miniture killer, which was a high point of CSI for me.

Didn't like it too much either. Hopefully Alex softens up a bit in the next few episodes or she is going to be pretty annoying.

I did like the ending, though. That's the one thing that will keep me watching. I know I've said this before, but I'd love for an unhinged Jason Gideon to come back as a villain.

^^^ all of the above criticisms, and to add to those I think an overdose of the cringeworthy Garcia made it even worse.:(

There was talk of Gideon coming back but from reading his thoughts on the show I don't see it ever happening. Patenkin despises the show and what it does each week, if he were to come back it will either involve an offer to big to pass up or someone having the foresight to add in a clause in his termination that he had to do another down the line. The last shot of the show was interesting and was the only piece I liked so I'll most likely stay with the show to see how it plays out but were it not got that one scene I'd seriously be considering putting the show on my no longer bothered list alongside the Mentalist and a dozen others.

    not keen on the newbie

With her character, it seems like there are too many chiefs in the team and not enough indians. I don't much like her either.

I thought the first episode was very poor. Garcia was in fine form being her usual irritating self. I didn't warm to Alex at all, she's just so glacial. It's a bit dickish to think herself above everyone but Reid as well. I can't see her character going well, we already have Hotch for the rigid, humourless professional type. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I did roll my eyes at the ending but we'll see what comes of it. I think it's safe to say Gideon is never coming back. Patinkin still spits bile about the show in interviews and I'm starting to see his point about the gore at this stage. It's like they're trying to one-up themselves all the time to have the weirdest staged deaths, when it used to simply be about the aftermath and the psychology of a killer. I think it's more likely Ella will come back, completely deranged.

Also, they've blatantly ignored Reid's "headache" storyline from ages ago. That was really irresponsible to just never reference it again. What are supposed to think, that they just stopped?

Pretty poor second episode. Nothing that we haven't seen done before a dozen times by both Criminal Minds and a hundred other shows. Really needs to kick things up a gear if I'm going to keep watching season 8.

Tonights episode really needs to impress as so far season 8 has been pretty damn poor. I struggle to recall anything of note from the last two episodes. The three episodes to date have had so little impact that I had to check imdb in order to recall what they were about.

At this stage the only reason I'm still watching is because I've put in 7 seasons worth and it's just became a habit. If this was a new show and based on the quality of the episodes aired this season to date I really don't think I'd be bothering with tonights episode.

Another pretty weak episode. The main villain was interesting enough and Scary Eyes Ray Wise was very good but it felt very much like a filler episode designed to work in the bigger overall plot. Reed's phone friend and the return of his migraines storyline is obviously going to be linked in with whoever was developing photos of the team in episode one but honestly I really don't care. It just seems so dumb and pointless and the show has never really been able to work in bigger story archs. It managed fine with the IRA gun runner storyline in season 6 but the show has always been at it's best when the villain is interesting and used over a minimum of two episodes, Frank played by Keith Carradine and James Van Der Beek's killers were the two most interesting in the shows 8 seasons.

The new team member adds absolutely nothing though the writers are going out of their way to give her scenes. The whole conversation in the prison this wee was just pointless, it added nothing to the story and appears to be there simply so they could say, look at this powerful, independent woman. That said it was a nice and refreshing change from when the writers force the terrible Garcia down our throat. Really cannot understand how she is so popular, she's terrible at her job, annoying as hell and the greatest sin the show ever committed was not killing her off way back when.

Going to give the show up until episode 6 and if the quality hasn't drastically improved I'm going to be adding it to the back burner. If this current season was a new show then based on the quality of the four episodes aired to date it would not be getting a second season.

Liked the latest episode a lot. The mystery surrounding Reid and his caller has me intrigued. Although going on past experiences they will probably ignore that arc for another 10 episodes. Seems forever since they last referenced Reids headaches and then all of a sudden its relevant again. I like when they add some story surrounding the main characters to the show. After 8 seasons there is only so many unsubs I can invest my time in.

Truly terrible episode this week, think I'm going to drop this as there was nothing about the latest episode that was worthwhile. The villain of the week was drab and poorly done and I really dislike when they use mentally ill people as the unsub.

Didn't think it was too bad, apart from the huge leaps in logic it took to find her. Nice to see Anne Dudek playing something a bit different from the goody-two-shoes characters she normally plays. One of the better episodes this season (which isn't saying an awful lot).

The hook from the end of episode 1 is losing its grip though.

The leaps in logic were ridiculous and to be honest there was a point where I just started browsing on mt ipod while the show played. There was little there to redeem the poor scripting. Really cannot figure out why they are slowly phasing out Joe Mantegna, he's had all of 5 minutes screen time since the start of the new series. Really hope they aren't planning on killing him off or changing him from a regular from next season onward, would make sense considering how they're tying to cut back on the wage bill

Wasn't going to bother with this weeks episode but after reading that Matthew Lillard guest started I decided to give it a chance. Must say that it was a return to form, the premise was interesting, the killers were developed and Lillard was excellent. The last few minutes were a little annoying and the whole 30 second scene that attempts to feed into the overall arc was pointless . I'm not liking the whole lets make the team a family stuff. Reid not being able to swing hit a baseball is neither fun or interesting and I'd much prefer a little more time had been spent with Lillard.

I love how so many shows and films place more emphasis on the safety of animals than humans, Garcia has no problem with pictures of dead hookers but would take issue with that of a dead dog.

Two good episodes in a row, really hope that this return to form continues. A Rossi episode is something I've wanted for awhile, he's easily the most interesting and likeable character in the show and the only one whose past is in any way worth developing. The killer of the week was a little plain and not all that interesting but It did have two things I do love, Vietnam flashbacks and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Caught up with the recent episodes and the downward spiral returns. The computer gamers gone murderous episode was really poorly done and somewhat insulting to gamers. There's a lot that could have been done with the concept but to me it felt like a shoddy Battle Royale rip off.

The next episode was so dull that I actually had to look it up on imdb as I had no memory of it. It was procedural by the numbers with little wit or originality much like the previous episode there was a lot of potential there but nothing done with hit. Also realised that I missed last weeks episode which explains a few parts of the latest one where I was wondering what the hell they were referring to.

This weeks episode was a mixed bag, the villain of the week and his motivations were really well done but the tacked on final scene was just painful. It's clear that the writers have gotten lazy and rather than work the overall arc into each episode as they have done in the past they simply opted to write a 90 second scene for the end of an episode to tie it in. Still as bad as the decline has been it's nowhere near as noticeable as the drop in other shows such as How I Met Your Mother which is now unwatchable.

It's still just about okay for me, but it's still got way too much Garcia. They should just leave her name in amongst the credits and keep her out of the rest of it for a satisfactory compromise.:pac:

Just watched last weeks episode which I had missed, really was a great piece of Television. Brad Dourif is a truly exceptional actor and having him play a truly demented and unhinged figure paired with a dwarf was a work of inspired genius. The fact that the episode actually concentrated on him and not the agents was also a blessing.

The whole Spencer has a girlfriend thing was just irritating and really added nothing to the episode, wonder if she'll be forgotten down the line much like his migraines.

As for Garcia she remains the most pointless and annoying character on TV. She adds nothing to the show, is terrible at her job and for some strange reason the writers continue to give her more screen time than Joe Mantegna who really should be the shows main focus away from the villain of the week.

Meant to mention earlier but did anyone else see the truly terrible unfinished FX shot used in the latest episode. They showed the front of a motel room and the top half of the screen was just black. Clearly someone forgot to render the other layers of the image and it's shocking that such an obvious screw up was missed before it went to air.

    Hi Everyone!

This is my first time posting in the CM thread, I've been trying to avoid spoilers since the new season started in the States!.....:D

I am really looking forward to watching it tonight :)

Wonder how will the replacement for Prentiss pan out?.....

She's very good actually. A bit of a sourpuss in the first couple (as they introduce her character), but she settles in nicely after that. I don't miss Prentiss at all.

Catching up on the last two episodes and the first one, where we finally meet Reed's girlfriend was rather good though I did feel like it was a missed opportunity. There was a lot that could have been done with the story and it felt like a season finale rather that mid season episode. The ending was good though I do feel that there was a more interesting way to bring things to an end but then it would have seriously changed the show. Hopefully the upcoming episodes will delve into the impact that the events have on the characters rather than simply forget them and jump back into the villain of the week routine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

The first episode was only ok imo, not the best.

The last two minutes were about the best but introducing a new character was going to take up time - the case was solved within record time!

    Strauss on a back-leg is a novelty!....

    Roll on episode no.2.

The ad's on Living are killing me!

Not a great episode again. Hopefully it'll pick up though. I read ahead on the series and there's a decent storyline or two coming up. Hopefully the general episodes pick up too. Onwards and upwards

Season 8 definitely picks up later on. There are a few cracking episodes mid-season and the most recent one in the States (14) was excellent.

I have to agree that Rossi is an overlooked favourite. I thought the season has been fairly good so far, I'm up-to-date with the US and like every season there are the hits and misses, but overall a good season.

I think they tried to just show her settling as many people would. I was really worried after episode one. I had no real "Grá" for her, but I to say, she is actually one of my favourites now and as the season goes on she becomes very significant, especially for Reid.

Thought the Reid girlfriend arc was a bit ridiculous, especially how it ended (I'll say no more for those who are watching on Sky) it is as though there is only allowed be so many couples in that show. Surely most profilers in real life have marriages and the like.

The season, from what I can see, will continue well. There is a Morgan episode coming soon that will be very interesting from what I have read, and if Shemar Moore's comments are anything to go by, it will be an exhausting episode for him to act.

Ooooh the latest one from the States (e16) was a cracker. A full episode about The Replicator, and about damn time. The final scene was creepy as hell. I really wanted that phone to ring.

    Interesting that
    Jason Gideon
was name-dropped at least 3 times. Simple fan service or something else? It's the possibility of something else that's making me a bit giddy. :o

Though Mandy said he did not want anything to do with the darkness of that sort of show, I have my suspicions
but who knows. Great to finally have more on the Replicator. Can't wait to see what the story is there!

What is getting on my wick is people demanding Paget's return without knowing why she left.
