Hi, anybody have any expierence of using the Hotels leisure facilities? I am looking to join a gym in Dun Laoghaire. 12 month membership is 760 Euros.I had a look yesterday and it seems nice enough - gym space looks tight if it was busy tough. The other option is Crunch;have not heard the best about them tbh. Cheers

I was a member there for a year.

It wasnt great to be honest. Its small and intimate but it depends what you are looking for in a gym. When I was there, there were restrictions as to what time you could use the pool. Im not sure if it still stands.

There was no weights bench and equipment was limited. Space is very very tight and is usually mostly used by residents of the hotel. You can rent a towel for €1 a go.

Staff were friendly enough and the place was usually clean. There were times when the place looked like a football club changing room but once you made the staff aware, it was sorted.

It is really orientated towards hotel residents, not a novice or avid gym goer, especially at thar price.

Cheers for that - it seemed very small indeed when i had a look. Would Crunch be a better option?

I joined crunch right after I left The Pier. It was full of poser, rugby teenagers who hog most of the weights area. However, there are plenty of weight machines, staff were not very helpful, any time I looked for any assistance they said they would make me an appointment with my "trainer"......which never materialised as times never suited me.

They have an unnecessary blingy interior and a computer contraption to log your workouts, at least I think thats what it is for. Parking was an issue in the area. They had a reasonable payment plan. All in all, Crunch was a better choice for me facility wise.

I have found that the council run gyms have a better atmosphere, people using them are more interactive and helpful. Staff are friendly and enthusiastic.

I just use the gym in my work now but if I need to go at home, Il go to Loughlinstown / Monkstown.

Gym has plenty of cardio machines, dumbells up to 16kg and machines only. Nice pool, sauna and steamroom. Small, but handy.

Crunch and the Royal Marine gym both are overpriced and sub-standard, but there isn't much else in the area. If you are willing to travel a bit your best bets are the Monkstown or Loughlinstown council gyms (the gym in Loughlinstown is better). Dun Laoghaire is crying out for a Ben Dunne...
