These people are running Women only shooting classes this month.

I did the riffle and pistol shooting course last month, I really enjoyed the day, I was abit nervous at first but they go through everything in the classroom first and the instructors where great (considering I'm a clumsy lefty!)

A different way to spend a Saturday!

I liked the pistol shooting but the riffle was sooo much easier to shoot on target!

Yea it's soooo not like the movies. :) Handguns are not easy at all. Shot a few in the states where the selection as you can imagine is a lot more than here. Fired a 357 magnum that damn near took my arm off. :o:D

I've done clay pigeon shooting here and it's great craic if there's a gang of you. I found that a lot easier. More instinctive, for me anyway. Get's you in the shoulder after a while, though I'm not exactly well padded.

My brain is broke, I was reading the PDF thinking 'that date has passed'!!! Stupid Helen's brain. But I copped on quick enough :o

I would be well interested in this and €20 squids per class isn't too bad, I was expecting it to be way more costly

Id love to do this. Ive shot a rifle before, but not a pistol.
Only thing is it asks for a cheque, where do you get them from?

I was the same - don't have a cheque book, they took a bank draft no problem.

Do they not take cards? 21st century and all. I think my brain has forgotten what a cheque looks like. I have never owned a chequebook!

A lot of clubs like this are quite small and can't afford the overhead that card processing fees incur (retailers have to pay to take cards)

I've been rifle shooting before and always wanted to get some instruction, will be signing up hopefully!

For anyone who's in TCD or UCD, both of those colleges have rifle clubs which are open to students, staff and alumni. It costs very little to get involved (membership is between 4 and 10 euro) and all equipment and coaching is provided by the club. There are both guys and girls and the committees, and there are generally quite a few girls who are actively engaged in club activities, so for any students/staff/alumni who are interested, it's defnitely worth checking out.

I would love to do this. Saturday doesn't really suit though.

I've always had an unnatural desire to shoot a gun. A bit odd really as I'm totally anti violence.

Ditto T. I think, for me anyway, it's the mechanics and engineering of firearms that does it for me. That and the challenge of actually hitting anything with my Mr Magoo type eyesight. :) The sheer physical and precision mechanics of something like an automatic pistol in full flow is for me amazing to watch and feel.

    This kinda thing.

    I was lucky enough to shoot one of these in the states when I was barely a teenager;

Mauser C96. One of the first automatic pistols. Very "steampunk" looking in today's terms. A Victorian gun that still looks futuristic. Even cooler (as fellow nerds will know) because it was the pistol that Han Solo and Luke Skywalker used in Star Wars and it was only a few years after that film(early 80's). So as you can imagine I nearly wet myself at the prospect:o:D Another plus point in it's favour for me was that it was the only pistol I was able to actually hit the target with consistently. Weighed a bloody ton mind you, though I was only 14 so...

Have to say the women on target day was brilliant and great value. Eur40 for the entire day. Gave myself a headache from laughing so much.

It was great to meet up Snoopy1, and I dont think I was any better at aiming !!!

They said they will be running another day in a month or so for anyone who is intrested.

In the US when I was a teen. One of those gun club places. Nice people who couldn't quite believe I'd never shot much of anything before, so let me try anything they had. The Mauser was my fave, the AK47 was good fun too.

Pistols are sooooo hard G, a lot harder than the movies would have you believe. Well for me anyway. :o:) The first time I fired pistols in the US I was all over the place. Fired a Ruger(IIRC) 22 and couldnt hit a damn thing. Then they upped the ante to a 38 revolver whose name escapes and I was equally bad. The Colt auto 45 that followed was in a similar vein, though made me feel like a gangsta. If they had asked me to shoot the ground I'd have hit a cloud. :D The above ancient old Mauser for some reason suddenly made me look like wild Bill Hickcock with minimal effort. The joke was my da who was with me was hitting the targets with every pistol thrust into his hand, except for that one. Go figure. :) The upshot is that if I ever find myself in a gunfight, I'll be haunting the museums with a pry bar beforehand...

If anyone is ever in Las Vegas go to this place!

I fired an AK-47 here when I was on holiday and my friend had a 9mm Glock. It was, without a doubt and totally unexpectedly, one of the most amazing feelings in the world! Honestly, better than sex! I was like jelly walking out of there and had to go have a sit-down till my legs felt normal again! The actual sensation of how powerful the gun is can't really be described till you've held it.

They were really welcoming, even though we felt we'd be laughed at going in there- 2 skinny, nervous, very young looking girls with backpacks. All we had to do was sign a form saying we had no mental illnesses and they just gave us guns to play with!

There was a group of guys there at the same time as us and one of them came over afterwards to say that me firing the rifle was the coolest thing he had ever seen- I couldn't see from my perspective but apparently there were flames coming from the muzzle! Have never felt so much like a super-hero...and just to point out, I'm not some crazy warmonger type! I'd never even been interested before but, like I said, it was one of the bet experiences money has ever bought me!
