The throne awaits you when you return my friend.

''you only do two days inside, the day you get in, and the day you get out''

Standing proud and tall as always in these scenes, taking his punishment like a man, taking the licks on the chin.

    Stay strong,

We'll be waiting for you with open arms when you get out,

    Love,

All your fans, aka The Money Team.

Always wondered how a small insanely skilled fighter like Mayweather would get on against a big prison hard man.

He is only little about 70kg walking around.

I think alot of the prison hard men would fancy there chances against fella's like him, different if it was the heavies, Lewis, Vitali, Bowe etc.

Stunning skilled fighter. Pity he turned out to be such a dick. Maybe when he's a pathetic has-been like Tyson he can get minor pity roles in movies too?

One of the most famous? What's that got to do with it?

    Who am I?

Not a wife beater. Good enough to me.

Who are you? That would look up to the likes of tyson?

The man was brilliant to watch.

    Good enough to me.

    We all make mistakes

He is in the movies because he is famous, that should be obvious.

A world champion with no gloves on, I dont think even the big men in there will mess with him. The big guy has to think that if he losses to a small guy thats his reputation shattered.

A 70kg lad hitting you will be very hard when he has speed and technique, when i was 57kg and about 17 I used to get started on by big supposed hard men and would batter them about easy-and i was an Irish level Boxer not a 70kg ripped World pro champion.

Boxer or nor not, any man who lets his guard down can be badly hurt by another man. In prison letting your guard down is a wee bit more dangerous than out and about. No queensbury rules either. Floyd isn't a big man, and if he was to get sucker punched/attacked, he'd need to fight for his life.

He won't come into contact with other prisoners , I don't think any high profile inmates ever do . He'll be out of his cell , one hour per day, when all other prisoners are locked up

Floyd will be the better for the short stint inside.

Some somnolence, some time to reflect on his life and some bad decisions he may have taken.

He'll take his punishment, and I think we'll see a slightly changed Mayweather when he gets out.

A lot of people here delighted he's been banged up; nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes, he's paying for his sins. Cut the pontificating, you'd swear everyone on here was mother theresa reincarnate.

Worst case scenario, Floyd pays for his crime.
Best case scenario, it highlights to him the finite nature of time and his career, and we see him released and tearing through the competition (martinez, alvarez, pacquaio) for the next year before leaving at the top.

How in the name of Jebus can that first post be serious?

I like "The Wire" reference I guess, but wtf about the rest?

Doing his time like a man? for hitting a woman? a professionally trained, world class athlete, who is actually trained to hurt people with his fists, gets a hero thread for going to jail for hitting a woman?

    Thank God for evolution.

The first couple of convictions for assaulting women didnt seem to do much to make him reflect, why will this one be different?

For real? This man will be treated like a God in prison...

I think visions of Big Tony's time inside from Goodfellas would be more closer to reality than everyone waiting for a pop.

You can't know that EVERY person he encounters will be in adulation.

Anyway, as mentioned by sxt, it is highly likely that Floyd will not be mixing amongst the general prison population for securiy reasons.

So Tyson is a has-been because his career is over? You could say the same of any retired boxer but it doesn't detract from their achievements. Therefore, your statement is pointless and senseless.

Also, I'd enjoy seeing you call him a has-been to his face.
No. he's a has been, because he threw the legacy of his career away, using the genius combination one-two of beating his wife and raping a teenager. That doesn't delete his victories, but in the minds of many it certainly detracts from those victories. To my mind, that deletes any respect he'd otherwise be due. He's no Ali, no Cooper, no Pacquiao.

He's not due the respect that should be given to an dedicated amateur that never won a bout.

No I wouldn't call him a has been to his face. I'd call him a rapist. And I'd be right. The record shows: 50 Wins (44 knockouts, 5 decisions, 1 disqualification), 6 Losses, 0 Draws, 2 No Contests, Several assaults, and 1 Rape.

Except for the last two entries there, I'd have no problem with him.

Ali beat his wife on several occasions and Pacquiao cheats on Jinkee all the time.

The alleged Tyson rape is quite controversial and widely disputed. He denies it to this day despite accepting responsibility for everything else. I'm not saying he didn't do it.

Tyson is a product of his environment. If we grew up fatherless, bullied at school, starving and having to rob food to eat, and then suddenly became heavyweight champ of the world we'd all be the same and be as unbalanced as he is.

He seems to be finding some happiness now and has more or less completely mellowed. I'm happy for him; he's a fascinating character.

He was tried and convicted in a court of law. I will believe her over him, a man who has shown rotten character and behaviour throughout his life. Mugging and beating people up before he even became a boxer.

I don't see how you could believe him over her. Anyway, as a fighter he was awesome. As a person he was rotten. A scumbag. Not just the rape conviction. I have read a fair bit on Mike, and I am not at all ready to believe his version of events. He has shown a real nasty side on many occasions.

Just one snippet: "Partial corroboration of Washington's story came via testimony from Tyson's chauffeur, Virginia Foster, who confirmed Desiree Washington's state of shock. Further testimony came from Thomas Richardson, the emergency room physician who examined Washington more than 24 hours after the incident and confirmed that Washington's physical condition was consistent with rape."

Not sure I can post this, if not, please remove. He was given a trial and he was found guilty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

From wikipedia: the victim (Washington) had a history of at least one false accusation of rape

also: the judge had blocked testimony from witnesses who would have contradicted Washington.

This isn´t really a debate I want to get into so I´ll leave it at that. Guilty or not, he´s a changed man.

You realize how hardened some inmates are?

They are used to taking punches and believe it or not, a small guy like Floyd is not going to intimidate a 6'4 110kg inmate who has some skill and on a life sentence.

Believe it or not, people have survived a beating from Floyd. If his wife can, so can a prisoner;)

I am sure there are loads of guys in the joint that could beat Floyd.

We are not talking Vitali here.

Jesus lads how many of you have done a stretch inside ?, yee all seem to have opinions on what it's like and what other inmates are like.

My assumption (based on nothing other than my own opinion) is that Floyd will do his time, not a bother to him, and come out just the same as he came in. He may occasionally make reference to how it made him mentally stronger or some other nonsense like that, and it'll probably do little to change his actions outside the ring (although hopefully that's the end of the woman beating for him).

All I'm interested in is when is his next fight and who is it against ?

In a strict boxing match I doubt there are any who beat him. But in prison, rules and regulations mean sh1t! So, yes, anyone is capable of destroying anyone. Floyd will do his time in peace. He will not be amongst the general prison population. Too dangerous and risky to have a celeb and star in that situation.
