Just saw this a few minutes ago thought it might be interesting for anyone in Dublin on Sunday for a few hours. Looks like it could be pretty cool with some fast cars around the place,

Maybe last year but almost every main road in the city centre was resurfaced late last year. They're pretty spotless (for now).

Picked up a pair of tickets on adverts for €50 for this. I'm really looking forward to it and when that happens the event is normally a let down so no way was I paying full price.

    Relevant youtube video

Some day. Some day....... start somewhere on the Northside, plough down... through OConnel street. Across and right, go down the river full throttle. Keep going past Heustion station. Right turn. Across Bridge. Left. More full speed. Into park. More twisty-turny shenanigans.

Eventually end up at the Papal Cross. not the most efficient route, but interesting to look at.

    Video would sell, at least.

The poster says 'demonstration', it's not a race, so I guess they'll be sticking to the 30kph speed limit and revving their engines a lot.
A spectacular demonstration of the world’s most exciting motorsports! ...Bavaria City Racing Dublin is a spectacular weekend of activities, with something for everyone, including fashion, music and parties all over the city.
All that's missing is 'face painting.:P

Wow, a company brings a Formula 1 World Champion to Dublin to drive a contemporary F1 car on the streets here, along with a plethora of other cars and drivers from a variety of disciplines, all of which can be watched for FREE, and yet people still find something to complain about.

    Jesus wept.

    Personally, I can't f*cking wait!

(yawn). I can see why it would have to be free. It's not the real deal.

All very real and No, there's no speed limit as the roads are closed, there'll be doughnuts, burnouts and lots of wheelies, should be enough to keep any enthuasiast happy for a couple of hours, if you don't like it then head to Bloom, for those who feel much more at home with the panzies ;)

Given the recent tragedy in Cavan, I can't see the organisers allowing people to get very close to the vehicles. when they're speeding.

However, the footballers don't throw in until 4.30. It's a later start than usual, so I'll have a few hours at the Bavaria thingamagiggy before I head off to Croker.

Its mostly free. Tickets only needed for a couple of areas. Check the website.
There wont be too many people in tomorrow once they see the rain anyway.

I dont know if you can even get tickets now, but i think there is no point now. The weather will ensure that 100,000 will not come to this as expected, so i'd think that you will get a good vantage point easily.

Guess I might as well go watch the event. I don't care that much about Formula 1, but hey, it's free and I've got nothing better to do, so why not.

(And there's also the fact that I can combine this with my grocery shopping which I've been too lazy to do up until now. Hooray.)

They'd moan anyway, the Dubs will wipe the floor with them and they'll find some reason to question the ref, better off watching the racing or walk to Croker, it's not that far.

As above I thought it was stupid the way they put the black netting up on Eden Quay and Butt Bridge. Listening to security try and give out to people on the other side of the fences though was funny :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,804 ✭✭✭Wurzelbert

got a glimpse of the action when i was in town earlier…seemed like a completely pointless waste of time, fuel and rubber to me and they really should remove the word “race” from the name…probably kinda exciting for young boys, though, with the noise and all…and i liked the 1920s mercedes ssk or whatever model that was…

I had tickets for the performance area. Everybody stood up when the cars came by. You couldnt see a thing, nothing, not even the road, unless you were in the front row. We ended up moving to one of the free areas to watch and at least saw some of the cars.

The most spectacular waste of money ever to buy tickets for this.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 15,858 ✭✭✭✭paddy147

All that time and effort and money spent to catch a "glimpse" of an F1 car crawling along and just revving it engine.....WOW (sarcastic).

    Baveria "Race"??.........Race me hole.

Alot of viewing places were blocked over with large black screens and nets,so that you couldnt get a propper view.Great way to treat people who came in to the city in the rain to view this event.:(

Glad I stayed at home so.:D

PS-I see some of the anti austerity groups got good worldwide publicity from today with placing their posters and banners all over the security fences.

'Bavarian' beer is Dutch, not Bavarian, so naturally the F1 'Racing (demonstration)' is not actually 'F1 Racing'.

My father and cousin went up with 180 euro worth of tickets.

Said it was the single worst thing they've ever been to. Haven't stopped complaining about it.

You can ask him when you're here.

    Que's
    Lack of organisation
    Crap racing
    Couldn't see from the seats,
    No covers over seats
    All seats wet
Packed out Luas over and back
Overly uncomfortable sound form the F1 car
    Price of tickets.

    Just everything about it.

    Que's

    Damn Spanish...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭beglee

I enjoyed it in the free areas. I knew when it was first announced that the tickets were way too pricy for what you would get to see. So that may be why there are 2 camps, one who enjoyed it, the other who thought it was rubbish (cuz they paid so much).

But anyone expecting "racing" should have known better. There's no way you could race on such a narrow track with spectators only a few feet away all the way around.

As for the sound, perhaps there should have been more warnings, but I thought everyone knew that F1 cars are head blowingly loud. Had ear plugs with me for it as I knew well from past experience.

The drifters and stunt bike dude seemed to put on a good show in the performance areas too. The fan zone was alright, couple of cars on display, a racing simulator, try your hand at changing a tyre etc. And caught a bit of Button doing an interview on the stage there too.

Had a grand day, despite the weather, got some decent photos, and now have a big craving to go to a grand prix again :D

    Que's
Lack of organisation - This was grand.
    Crap racing - It wasn't a race.
Couldn't see from the seats, - What would you expect? People are always going to stand up, do the same.
No covers over seats - This was a bit of a let down for €70 but it didn't ruin my day and I wouldn't complain about it.
All seats wet - It was raining...
Packed out Luas over and back - His own choice.
Overly uncomfortable sound form the F1 car - There was ear plugs being given out, I got some and didn't need to use them. If you're at an F1 event you have to expect the noise.
Price of tickets. - I didn't have to pay for mine! :D

    Just everything about it.

    Seems a tad whiny IMO.
Fair enough he didn't enjoy it but well, you can see my opinions there.

Dont get me wrong. I had a great time - once I left the paid area. You could not see ANYTHING from the seated area. My gripe is that I paid so i would get a first class view and ended up seeing nothing from the seats. Only the front row saw anything. Waste of money. Im a bit peeved that you pay for something and dont get it.

Said it was the single worst thing they've ever been to. Haven't stopped complaining about it.
He's wrong. Here's the official version:
Gavin Collins, Event Director for Bavaria City Racing Dublin commented: "Today’s event has been a phenomenal success. "The people of Dublin have turned up in their thousands and created a real festival atmosphere in the city. "Bavaria City Racing has given every spectator a unique Formula 1 experience and shown that Bavaria City Racing has a huge future in Ireland."
    So there.

My thoughts exactly, giving out about the noise of a F1 car? Sacrilegious, that's the fun of the whole event! I think people are venting their anger at the weather more than the event itself.

    This 100%!
I reckon if it was sunny like during the week, EVERY ONE would hav loved it.

My GF, who has no interest in cars, sat in the **** weather for 5 hours and enjoyed it.
    That's saying something.

Watching the ProDrift guys sliding around the corner at the heiniken building was something else too, loved it.
