Confused on amount of calories needed to lose weight

Just a quick question on calories needed to lose weight. I am currently 5'3 and 8 stone 12 and would love to get to 8 stone 7. When I google the minimum amount of calories I should be consuming to maintain the above weight is always between 1250 and 1350 calories depending on the site. I am currently on week 5 of the couch to 5k and I also go to zumba once a week. I'm just curious from reading up on calories that the absolute minimum calories for any girl to consume every day would be 1200. If my calories to maintain weight are between 1250 and 1350 per day then how can I loose weight and create the 3500 deficit a week to lose a pound?! It just seems a bit confusing at the minute.

Grab the MyFitnessPal app (or even go to the website).

There you'll be able to enter your statistics and it will give you a goal daily calorie intake in order to lose 1 lb per week.

It really is an excellent app. You can track all of your foods, exercise etc. Lets you keep track of everything!

Sounds obvious, but look out for hidden calories (those we dont expect in things we assume are healthy/low cal) like fruit juices.

The 1250-1350 seems like a mistake, and it is not taking into account your daily run and zumba class. Even without them 1250-1350 to maintain seems pretty low. Like MrStufflins said, check out MyFitnessPal, it factors in your daily exercise as well.

Use MyfitnessPal for tracking food calories but nothing else.

It's exercise calories are grossly over estimated and it usually recommends a far too low calorie allowance.

Work out your calories allowance from the stickies and input it into MFP.

Bodyweight in lbs x 12 = fat loss kcals, roughly, as a starting point

MFP is a load of sh*t for anything other than recording food intake.

Thanks a million for that, I am getting 1500 calls. Is this what I need to do to lose weight or to maintain my weight? I was obviously eating too little if I was eating around 1300 or less per day.
