YES!! YES!! YESSSSS! The most stale gimmick and boring promo is gone for 2 months. Awesome stuff. Hopefully WWE don't fill the gap with more Big Show or Mizark....

 Don't WWE usually turn a blind eye to any bold things Randy does? :pac:

I think they just bring him back in time for the PPV :P Golden Boy Orton (ONS 06). A fantastic wrestler but hopefully he uses the time to reassess his character/promo style.

That is a big blow for the SD brand. It leaves Smackdown short of a top babyface star, though it works well for Sheamus in a weird way as he's sort of top dog there now.

I wouldn't be surprised if they turned D-Bryan face after No Way Out in response to this.

I know the draft means f all these days but i wonder will they move it up to get SD some babyface talent cause they need it A.S.A.P.

Wonder what it was for?recreational drugs or roids?

Hopefully when he returns from this he'll be heel again.

Good news for the recently face turned Christian too.

Put me down, Tensai to SD and feuds with Shambo, fights at the PPV.

Randy Orton is trending worldwide now on Twitter. Think this is the 1 time WWE won't mention a talent trending

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Well that sorts the who should Orton feud with problem rather nicely :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

It's worth mentioning that it's his 3rd suspension but only his 2nd wellness violation. WWE fudging the books to not fire him! Man, i'd love to see Orton in TNA. Whole new roster full of people to wrestle for the first time in a fresh setting.

Isn't Christian a Smackdown guy? And he's come back as face so I suppose he slots in as Orton's replacement. In the World Title scene they mostly need heels to feud with Sheamus. Anyway they have been swapping people like Del Rio, Bryan and Jericho between brands when required so I am sure they can do it again if needs be without a draft.

Interesting that they started an Orton-Jericho feud and now both are suspended. I feel a bit sorry for Ziggler as it looked like he would be in a big feud with Orton. Don't feel bad for Orton though his mic work is awful. What was that he said a few weeks ago? "...Because my name.......is Randy Orton!" He had a few other bad ones recently.

All 3 of CM Punks opponents from the last 3 wrestlemanias are now suspended.

    Straight ed---whaaa???? :p

Bump Cody Rhodes or Ziggler to the main event to replace Orton and I might watch smackdown for the first time in 5 years :)

    This is terrible.

I thought Randy was looking after himself well this past while. I heard hiw talk about how travelling in his coach bus helped his back as he could rest properly while travelling. Its terrible that he ended up using something.

WWE need to take a long hard look at how they treat the wrestlers. Everyone needs a good rest but unless they suffer a serious injury or get suspendeed they won't get a proper break and end up needing 'help' to recover.

I think Ziggler will probably feud with Swagger but Christian feuding with Ziggler would be awesome

I think they might turn Bryan face

Don't think DB will be turned, he's gold as a heel.

Does this mean that Orton won't be in the title picture again because of the risk of a third strike? I know they gave Jeff Hardy the belt on a much riskier two strikes, but I kinda think Jeff was way more over.

I didn't really wanna see Dolph being repeatedly beat by Orton asides from the occasional fluke win. Maybe they'll actually put him in a feud where he can win convincingly now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭Captain Morgan Freeman

Orton draws/is over so of course he will be back in the title picture again.

Ziggler simply being in a feud with Orton would have done much more for him then beating Kofi Kingston or Santino "convincingly".

    Title picture =/= champion

obviously, and Orton seems to genuinely try and make good opponents look really good, but when the booking is so stacked against whoever his opponent is, the feud isn't gonna do anything for them. they only seem to give any variation when it's a heel who looks so big and intimidating that it'd be ludicrous to think they were afraid of the babyface (eg. Mark Henry, and look how quickly he got over then after a decade and a half of being a joke). I'd rather see Dolph languish in obscurity for another bit than being rushed into being the next Miz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭Captain Morgan Freeman

Well you did ask if he would be in the title picture again but for what it's worth im confident he will be a champion again.

I would have kept Ziggler in a tag team for the short term but he's already said he wants to go solo so that's a no go. It's worth knowing that before he won the WWE title at money in the bank last year CM Punk only won 6 out of his last 24 PPV matches. So you don't always have to win to look good or move up the card, having good matches and wrestling against people who are relevant means you benefit by association. He should go to smackdown and feud with Christian, the matches would be good and he could benefit from going toe to toe with a former world champ.

YES! Wont have to hear the words "Apex predator" or "Viper" for 2 months.

I think Orton has had some great matches in the last year or two but its the build up to the matches. The chap is just so boring.

Especially the slow walk to the ring and his stupid promos starting with "My name............................is Randy Orton" and his slow talking promos in general.

Hopefully they might push someone (preferably Ziggler) while hes away.

Run down of Randy Orton's history at Cageside Seats:
    1. Lots of minor incidents before WrestleMania 22 that went unpunished.
    2. Caught smoking pot backstage, suspended for 60 days, not considered a Wellness policy violation.
    3. Worked for 30 days without pay after failing a drug test for steroids, first Wellness strike in August 2006.
    4. Sent home from a European tour for trashing a hotel room, but was back at work within 10 days.
    5. Named in the Signature Pharmacy scandal but wasn't punished.
    6. His drug overdose / suicide attempt.
    7. Strange motorcycle accident where he re-injured his shoulder.
    8. Now his latest 60 day suspension for a second Wellness policy violation.

Punk was pretty consistently in feuds with guys like rey, Hardy, edge, Orton and undertaker for those two years and had three championship reigns. Even though he was losing a lot of the time, it did build up a label of main event exposure that just isn't possible with the paper thin roster they have now. He also built himself a much more well defined character than Dolph has.

Pretty sure the time Orton was mentioned on that list he wasn't punished because it was something he was already punished for before the wellness policy was introduced, Alvarez mentioned it a few weeks back.

Just after Wrestlemania 22 (April 2006, Pre-Benoit obviously) there was something "serious" that happened at Randy's home in St. Louis

At very least Randy admitted he overdosed in various media interviews and on his recent DVD. Irv Muchnik out right reported suicide citing a water tight source. Johnny Ace at least held an internal inquiry to assess whether it was suicide. Meltzer kinda sorted confirmed it all on a piecemeal basis.

Irv believes that WWE didnt punish Randy for appearing on the Signature Pharmacy list for fear of another attempt.

Normally I lol at Wrestling World News but this sounds interesting and detailed:
The word coming out of this week’s WWE television tapings is that there was a round of Wellness testing a few weeks back. Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and a third name I have been unable to confirm had positive tests.

As I reported earlier here on Richard’s Backstage Blog, I’m told Orton’s test revealed a form of Dianabol and traces of marijuana thus resulting in his suspension. This marks Orton’s fifth suspension from WWE but only his second under the company Wellness Policy.

In regards to Cody Rhodes, he thought that he was going to be suspended for a dietary supplement. Rhodes hinted at the forthcoming suspension with a post on Twitter last week that simply read “Time off.” As it turns out, his positive test was cleared by doctors and he was not given a Wellness strike nor did he face a suspension.

Due to the fact that I cannot offer 100% confirmation on the third name, I am withholding it. I’m told there’s a good chance this worker will either be suspended or terminated, however, there are still issues preventing WWE from making a move.

There is a very emotional story developing around the suspension of Randy Orton. I’m told he has a lot of backstage heat with many people lobbying for the company to fire him. One source directly connected to the situation told me the backstage segment on Monday’s Raw Supershow where Dolph Ziggler was watching Orton on the monitor was WWE ribbing The Viper.

The feeling from many WWE officials is that if Orton continues to get away with it and he continues to be pushed, he will do it again. There are obvious concerns from the writing team how they will be able to book him, especially in a role as the company’s 1b, given the fact he now has “two Wellness strikes.” Triple H, who has never seen eye-to-eye with Orton, is scheduled to meet with him along with Vince McMahon and other company officials later in the week.

I’m told McMahon is livid and thought Orton had “grown up” and understood the ramifications this could have. It’s believed Orton felt like he was “above” being tested and his cockiness isn’t setting well with management or co-workers,

I reported on Monday here on Richard’s Backstage Blog that CM Punk had surpassed Orton as second in WWE, behind only John Cena. I’m told with Orton’s latest suspension, that fate has been cemented. Some of the workers were hoping WWE would really take hard stand with Orton, with some wanting a longer suspension than the Wellness Policy would indicate given all his past problems. Keep in mind, in addition to the aforementioned suspension issues, Orton has defecated in Divas luggage, put food coloring in shampoo, trashed a hotel room and recently drew the company bad publicity when they had to pull him from The Marine 3.

The heat is so hot right now I’m told Orton’s future still remains very uncertain. However, there are a number of things keeping the company from releasing him, including the fact that he could literally end up “signed, sealed and delivered” to TNA during a time when I’m sure they would immediately act. The reason Orton was not written off television at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping is the company flat out didn’t want him there.

Emotions are so high that when WWE Champion CM Punk, who doesn’t get along with Orton, made a joke about the company writing him off, it wasn’t met with laughter.

WWE did do a "he's a reformed character" profile of Orton on his recent DVD and Cody has been inexplicably jobbed out recently. So it is commonsensical at least.

I think WWE may have claimed Randy served a suspension for the signature pharmacy thing as the dates of his 30 days without pay and the sig pharm matched up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

They would be stupid to release him. He'd sign with TNA as soon as he could. They'd be handing their only competition a legit huge name right in his prime. No doubt Spike TV would be willing to help out with his wage if needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

I don't know what WWE expect from Orton if u continually push him very hard, protect his losses and neglect to suspend him for infractions... And when you do, you bring him back early. He's always been treated as a Golden Boy and above the rest of the regular roster and so he acts as such. I really hope this is the start of Orton doing something to better himself. Or go nuts and get fired and show up in tna. Either's just dandy, is prefer the latter.

To be honest, MJ is hardly that bad and steroids are to maintain the look WWE loves to promote despite drivin Orton pretty hard. I'm not advocating at all but I'm saying WWE loves the big man look.

Just throwing that name out there because didnt he violate the wellness programme there a few months ago and has pretty much failed in WWE?

The person in question may have a doctors note, that usually delays things while they figure it out. Sin Cara said he had a medical need before his suspension but he never proved it.

Probably a more cerebral suggestion than the guesswork I am about to unleash.

I thought maybe a racial minority or even a woman given Linda's election. Strictly going by looking at results I think Ezeke is the third person he's lost to everyone from Jinder to Sandow.

I dunno about vilifying Orton right now, he was talking an awful lot last year about how they should have more time off and stuff like that iirc, would make sense for Vince and Hunter to see that as a pretty big threat. He's been getting a lot of injuries lately and I reckon he wouldn't mind too much if he had to quit, so he probably figured the chances of them taking the risk of testing one of their few draws were outweighed by the relief he got from the weed or whatever.

Out of interest could someone explain what the situation is with weed and the wellness policy? Looking at the wwe site it doesnt seem to carry an automatic ban (nor does drinking alcohol within 12 hrs of an event) nor does the 3 strike rule apply.

Am I right in saying that? If so the likes of Bourne & Truth should be fine

I think Bourne and Truth were in trouble for using the synthetic drugs (4N) that are part of the penalty as set out in 15A (ie Suspension)

Actually, I think you're right, Bourne and Truth got the strikes for Spice iirc. Can remember people wondering why they didn't just smoke weed.

Cheers for clearing that up, hadnt realised they were on synthetic stuff.

Reading the policy its interesting that weed/alcohol violations dont have a mention of names being released. Makes you wonder how often people get done for those.
