epoxy resin for boat floor

looking to buy some epoxy resin to paint an a new wooden floor of my boat. what type of stuff do i need and where is the best and cheapest to buy it.

Hi Colm I get my epoxy from http://www.marineparts.ie/paint-and-maintenance/epoxy-repair-kits/ this is great for sealing the wood but has no uv protection so it will also need to be covered in paint, varnish or carpet you can get glass beads to add to the epoxy to give a non skid finish or you could also just sprinkle some clean sand over the last coat.:D

it is to protect the ply. as i will be carpeting over it i think. looks like its not to cheap. would i need much I've to cover 1 full sheet of ply and about half another. which one do you use Fergal

I would say you will have enough in this http://www.marineparts.ie/paint-and-maintenance/epoxy-repair-kits/west-system-a-pack-1kg-slow.html make sure you get the slow hardener as it will give you more time to put it on,cover all the edges well and any parts that have been cut I used a roller to do this one the other day doing one coat in the morning and another later in the day just before it set fully, if you do let it set before the second coat you will have to wash and sand it so the next coat will stick you might get away with one thick coat.

1 litre/kg of poyester resin should be enough depending on how many coats ur putting on. i wouldnt bother with epoxy resin for just sealing a floor. thats a good deal for 23.99 for a 5kg drum

Yea the ones you posted look cheep and will do the job.:D I use west systems because it's clear and shows up the wood the ones in your link are coloured also polyester won't bond epoxy fiberglass so check out what the boat is made of if you have to glass in new floor stringers or bond the floor to the boat.

cheers for the replies lads. i only need to cover the new floor will not be bonding it to anything. my floor looks about the same size as yours Fergal.
