The former one is sweet, the latter not so much.
But was the Famicom ever really that white?

Can I just say one thing? Just get an AV Famicom over the pissy yellow one and don't bother with the US of A version of it. What was the point of that machine or actually any of the reiterations of Nintendo home consoles? Im looking at you Wii Mini!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭CosmicSmash

Don't forget about all the variations of the Mega Drive. Nintendo added a composite output to the AV Famicom which was a vast improvement over rf, this was still lacking in the US top loader. The Wii mini was a step backward, I don't think anybody would disagree with that. Aesthetically the old jap famicom is far nicer than the newer model in my opinion especially when you add in the dd unit. Both consoles seem to be around the 150 mark if you want them cib in very good condition.

So, thanks to having a shiny GB Micro now, I bought Bubble Bobble Old and New, and Batman Vengeance today...

Yes the AV was an improvement over the original fami with the AV connection but the US version ,as you said, was a waste. The same can be said of the Super Nintendo mini, as it's inferior to it's bigger brother in pretty much every way like the Wii Mini.
Sega for sure got carried away but at least their stuff was trying to improve the system or offer something new apart from a cheaper price point.

Apart from any improvements in the display and sound department what other improvements did they make? I thought every model looked worse than its predecessor but maybe that's just me.

And now just bought a pair of PS/2 RGB cables as well...

I don't feel well, think I'll have a lie down here, on the floor....

The snes cable should work on the GameCube as well , dont forget the jaguar rgb cable - that's how the experts appreciate AvP :)

SNES cables are weird. The SNES RGB cable has resistors removed which leads to an overbright image on the GC while GC RGB cables don't work on a SNES at all, you get 2 seconds of gorgeous RGB and then the image fades out to black.

I'm not 100% but I'm sure I've been using my Gamecube RGB with the snes with no problems. Been a long time since the snes was packed away for moving though so I could be wrong.

    Jaguar rgb?
I fail to see how polishing a turd like AvP will make it anything other than a turd!
I've had no luck with DC rgb, but I do have the VGA adaptor and the handy SD LCD panel....

No luck finding one? Here you go -

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sega-Dreamcast-DC-RGB-Scart-AV-A-V-Display-Lead-Cable-Fantastic-Picture-HD-NEW-/251308712826?pt=UK_Video_Games_Cables_and_Adaptors&hash=item3a832aa37a

I actually much rather the look of a Dreamcast on a CRT via RGB than over the VGA cable.

No, I've bought a couple of RGB cables but they never seem to work, no idea why not.

Its a combination of Nintendo's design inconsistency, inability to read a SCART specification and the TV manufacturers SCART input filters :D

So, the cables will work fine on some TV's and sucky on others.

    Picked up a Game&Watch today,
    Donkey Kong Jr.

    1250413-game_watch_donkey_kong_jr.jpg

It's not boxed but in pretty great condition, I'm happy with it.
It's my third now, along with an original Snoopy Tennis and the Club Nintendo reproduction of Ball.

Lovely little things! How much was it if you don't mind me asking? I have a fully boxed one but can't seem to get a value on it.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,758 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I just spent a mere €25 on it, and I think I got a pretty good deal there.
I would reckon, in it's unboxed but good condition, he should have been looking for closer to €35.
I did get a boxed Snoopy Tennis from him for €20, which was way way too low, but there you go, both prices do not include postage as I paid it in cash when I collected them from him.
Ebay seems all over the place, but boxed G&W devices seem to come in at around €50+ though.
If the box is in great nick and the rest of the device is in good condition, I'd stick it in for €50 and see what happens.

Box is acceptable condition but it does include the styrofoam and all manuals and even the stickers to hold the battery in place. Not going to sell it just curious as to the value

You really have to buy them from a reputable seller, there's a lot of muck being sold as "RGB" when it's actually not. Now you know thee difference, you'll spot them a mile away.
So, the cables will work fine on some TV's and sucky on others.

This is true, my Samsung lcd gives a terrible picture with a consolegoods GC RGB cable, but my Pioneer plasma gives a perfect image with the same picture. There are inconsistencies in the design, & the GC in particular makes that obvious in my case

I vaguely remember having a game watch when I was a kid.would of been about 90/91
I think it was Nintendo but it could of been a knock off.
The only thing I remember about it was that your character was a witch with a broom or something like that!
you had to move left right or center in true ****ty old school lcd game style!
    any ideas?

    Left-for-Dead-2-+-X-Men-Mutant-Academy-2.jpg

Sequel heavy market finds this weekend. Left 4 Dead 2 is in great shape with the 48hour xbox live code still intact: €7.
X-Men Mutant Academy 2 was €4. I never paid much attention to this game when first released but I was a big fan of the Activision Spider-Man game which was out a year or two beforehand. I looked the X-Men game up online and see that Spider-Man is an unlockable character in this game, happy days.

Hopefully this little bit means the physical version was worth the added cost...
