L.C. Chemistry and electronegativity values in log tables??

    So all textbooks seem to say that for predicting bond types, a electronegativity difference of .4 is the cut off for non polar/ pure covalent.
    But my chem teacher said we have a new version of the electronegativity table in the log tables and that now we take .5 as the cut off for pure covalent?
    Just wanted some clarification on this.
    Anyone know what the story is?
