How much would it cost for a second sky box in a different room? We have sky out in the kitchen but i'd let to have my own sky box for my bedroom i'd like to have all the channels? Would I get some sort of deal because we are already sky customers?

What you are referring to is Sky Multioom. It costs €15 per month and is independent of what package you have, i.e. you will have the same package in your second room as you have in your first room, unless you upgrade to the full package...

That is the deal, I doubt very much that you will get any type of further reduction because you are already a customer...

Edit: You might get the box itself free depending on what offers they have at the moment.

Ok we don't have the sports package i'd be looking for the sports package so it'd cost be 60 quid a month then yeah?

Would I have my own box and remote etc?

    How much would installation cost?

    Multiroom details here

You would have the same package as your main account/box and your own box, remote control.

You will be tied to a 12 month sub though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,058 ✭✭✭Ronan H

As Muffler said, yes, you will have your own box and remote and you can watch what you want regardless of what the people in the other room are watching. If you want Sports you'll have to upgrade, I have no idea what the prices are. Check the website...

Edit: Mind the small print on the link above: Additional box and setup costs may apply!

So i'd have to pay €15 a month for at least 12 months. Aye I was looking at that but it didn't say anything about installation fees or anything. Would I have to pay for any installation fees?

Am I right in saying that the HD box would only cost me 15€ per month? The main account/box is not HD though

What does this mean? We got sky in 2004 and upgraded to sky+ in 2008 but i'm not sure whether we got a free box?

Renamed the thread. OP about 90% of threads in this forum are Sky related so please give more descriptive titles to threads you start. Thanks.

It means that if you subscribe to SKY multiroom you will receive the sky HD box for free, but if you wanted to upgrade at the same the SKY box currently in your house you would have to pay €69 for this box. I got a deal in january where I got the latest 1TB box for €49.

I don`t see any mention of installation costs so you may need to enquire with SKY about this.

One other thing to note - in order to get SKY multiroom you will need an active phone landline connected to one of the boxes.

The best thing for you to do would be to call SKY and see what their latest offers are (these can differ to the online offers), mention that UPC are cheaper for multiroom and you are considering cancelling and you may be pleasantly surprised as what they offer you.....

We have a landline but I'm not too sure whether it's connected to the sky box. If I was to order the box tomorrow how long would if take to arrive at my house?

Depends on when they have an installer free, but you will need to wait for your new viewing card to be posted out before the new box can be fully activated/installed.

You need to ensure that you can connect a phoneline to one of the boxes, otherwise SKY won`t allow the installer complete the installation. The installer can run a phoneline to one of the boxes for you, depending on where your landline connection is, but this may not be ideal (I was able to run a cable up from my UPC router, through my hotpress, into my attic and down into the bedroom where my second SKY box is currently located so you can`t see the phoneline). My mother-in-law got rid of SKY for UPC as the SKY installer tacked a phoneline from her hallway into her living room and it looked awful. She wasn`t aware you don`t need a phoneline when you have just the one box...

Are you for serious? How is anyone here going to tell you how long it will take? This thread is starting to arouse my trolling suspicions. I think your next move is to call Sky and get some definite information from them. The information you have got here is sound advice so take that to the next level and pull the trigger with Sky on the finer details...

You must have both boxes connected to a landline for multiroom. Does not matter if it is eircom or UPC. €15 per month for an exact copy of your current package.

If you think they will have trouble running the phone cable to the new room (ie.you do not want them drilling holes everywhere), you should ask on the phone. They will bring a device that works same as a powerline ethernet adapter (google it) for the phone line run. It is an extra cost.

If you ring them to arrange, they will give you a date of install. Typically 5 days. It will be an engineer install. They replaced my old dish, ran the lines, connected to phone and put it a HD box. I cannot remember the install cost but I think it was the €69 quoted above.

Ordered the box today and the people from sky will be out next Wednesday:)

Is there any way of getting sky sports news without subscribing to the sports package? Is Sky Sports News part of the news package on sky?

I don't know how SSN is arranged within the packages, but if you have a smsrtphone you can download the SSN app. It is definitely available for Windows Phone, so I imagine it is also available for the iPhone and Android, although I haven't checked them.

Indeed, by virtue of the fact that it is freely available as a mobile app, I imagine it is probably available for free through Sky also. I just never looked into it. It wouldn't make sense for someone to have to subscribe to it via Sky but be able to get it free on a phone?!

I have the SSN app for android, but its not the same as watching it on TV. You get news articles in text format, with a little pic, and sometimes with accompanying video, but its not a live stream of the channel. Is the windows phone app different?

    Yes and yes.

If you go officially through Sky you will get their standard Sky HD box and a single feed which is for viewing only. If you wished you could either pay a bit extra for a Sky+ HD box and 2 feeds from the dish to each room (max 8 feeds) which will allow recording, pausing etc etc or alternatively get a Sky+ HD box on Adverts or Ebay and then a local installer (could do it yourself if you were handy) to throw in extra feeds / cables. At least you will get better value for money that way.

You could also ring them or get them to call you and try to work out some sort of a discounted offer with them if you are already a subscriber. They have a Talk To forum here on Boards where they will call you if you post up your query or you could get them to call you from this link - click on "free call" near the top left of page

Your wrong about Sky only providing a single feed and a standard box.

Last month I got multi room and I was provided with free installation of a full proper Sky HD box with recording facility (two cable feeds)

Each additional box will only be the single feed mode. If you want a recorder box you will have to pay a bit extra. I presume that was your first mr box?

Unless its (A) part of a promotion/offer or (B) you specifically request a Sky+ HD box with 2 feeds or (C) throw a few quid extra to the installer then Sky will only provide a bog standard HD box with a single feed.

The details are all here on their website

if you are getting a Sky+ HD box you'll get 2 feeds, its not in skys interested to give you 1 feed an a crappy service that you cant record on.

If you are getting a MR box (non hard drive) you'll only get one feed.

Muffler i dont see where it says on your link that if you get a Sky+ box you'll only get one feed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,548 ✭✭✭✭muffler

If you are getting a MR box (non hard drive) you'll only get one feed.
That is what Sky supply as standard.

If you read my posts in full you will see where there can be exceptions but we are talking about the normal multiscreen box here.

From the link I provided and under the "Here's the legal bit" heading it is clearly stated that the multiscreen box supplied "is the Sky HD standard Digibox (No PVR functionality)" That's not me stating that, that's Sky's own T & C's

When I had the MS installed about 3 years ago it was a single feed. My next door neighbour had it installed about 6 months ago and it was a single feed. As I said earlier unless there are other arrangements made its a standard box that will be supplied and yes, it doesn't say you will only get one feed but it doesn't say that you will get two either :)

standard box is a Sky+hd box, thats what most sky sales are.

MR box would be MR/digi/non PVR box

Ah, I thought we were talking about a multiroom/screen box though.

I agree with the above on both counts
