Been catching territories from WWE classics on Demand; AWA; NWA and Mid-Atlantic from the 80s; bloody hilarious. A million miles away (especially the production values) from today's stuff.

Almost everybody can't cut a promo; it's crazy to see the ultra-talented talkers like Piper cutting killer promos amongst a poor rabble. For every Jake Roberts there's 10 Jumpin' Jeff Farmers :p

Then the finishes, oh man! People winning with chops, cross-body, scuffled-punch to the head, knee-drop etc. Matches where the referee wears the most interesting outfit....It's awesome :pac:

What's cool is seeing wrestlers you knew before they made it to the WWF; like "Big" Scott Hall; who was HUGE (he must've been 60 pounds lighter in the WWF) and had a tom selleck mustache and brown perm! wtf!! :pac:

So i havent watched wwe in a long time but this whole cm punk storyline got me back in, but i was on the wwe website and they have a section called "Who is Kevin Nash" is it gone that far that people have to be reminded who legends like Kevin Nash are

What do you mean is it gone that far?

Not everyone that watches wrestling now would know who Kevin Nash is.

Nash's last WWE match was back in 2003. 8 years ago. That means Cena's core fanbase were still only 3-6. Nash's prime was years before that as well, so the only way alot of the Cena fanbase would know of and about Nash would be through highlight videos and WWE.com articles...

    And in another company too.

How dare people not know the 2nd worst drawing WWE Champion of all time. :pac:

    3-6 Years old. :pac:

It also doesn't help that WWE tends to ignore things it didn't create, so despite being such a huge part of wrestling history, they (EDIT: the nWo) get ignored, thus furthering the problem with knowledge of who Nash is.

EDIT: Actually, you'd think by now they'd have had a video package detailing Nash's career highlights, even in a seg where Punk makes fun of the fact no one knows who he is, so he's organised a history lesson for kids.

And the fact that he was in TNA for the last six years means WWE are going to avoid mentioning him regardless.

Nash's career, as told by Vince McMahon...

    HBK's bodyguard.
    Member of the Kliq.
    Brief world title run.
Disappeared from the face of the earth for years and years.
    Returned.
    Tore his quad.
Disappeared from the face of the earth for years and years.
    Attacked CM Punk at Summerslam.

Well the same can be said for lots of internet posters who claim to know all about the attitude era, but are yet only like 17 or 18 now, so they dont fully know the attitude era. They only know it from reading up on the internet and watching youtube videos. If you didnt watch it live back then, you dont fully understand why the attitude era was so good.

A lot of the Attitude Era hasn't aged well though - especially the Russo booked stuff.

I think the majority has aged very well. Obviously im probably looking back through a pair of nostalgia tinted classes (everything was better in the 90s... it just was ok :(), but the late 90s are still the best time ever in wrestling. Period. It was the peak. So many childhood and teenage memories...

But damn, if I watch anything to do with 80s wrestling (apart from a few documentaries) it looks so amateur and dull to me. It sends me to sleep, the matches are so slow and boring. Thats my opinion. Dont lynch me!!! Maybe its because I grew up during the mid 90s to early 00's watching the spot fest matches in the attitude era, who knows. I watch wrestling for entertainment, not to critique wrestling holds and moves. I watch MMA for that.

I have a lot of the PPVs from 98 and 99 on VHS, and the majority of them are seriously crap. Thank f*ck Russo left in late 99 for WCW, he played a big part in that.

Yes, a lot of the characters were over, but it wasn't until the Chris Jericho's and Kurt Angle's arrived that the WWF overall became better.

I honestly prefer the later years.

I watched a few PPVs from the late 90s over the summer there, yeah the production isnt as great as it is today, and some "swerves" were just shít, but overall I think its much better than the current product.

Yeah the early 00's until about 2003 were great years also. Id rate from about 1998 to 2003 as the best half decade in WWE/F ever.

We might be straying off topic here.

Ive revisted my fair share of WWF/WCW. Id rather stab myself in the eye then watch any 1999 WWF again woeful stuff altogether.

A lot of stuff ages badly tv/films,music & sport. What happened 10+ years ago may seem daft now but ratings & popularity show that at that time it worked. Just cause Vince Russo was involved(and given far too much credit) doesn't mean it was evil.

Yeah 2 day title reigns >1 day title reigns. Only kidding but everything then moved at such a pace then didn't Rock beat Foley for the title in a match not even on tv. Not everything was perfect then but they did get most things right the fact wwe was everywhere then reflects that.

Halftime Heat, during the Super Bowl 99 Half time. Strange match.

Yip WWF was so popular then everyone just ran along with that, when you have 2 HUGE names in Stone Cold & The Rock you could get away with things.

True. I hope to see another wrestling rivalry on that scale at some point.

Is this tread about old skool or current wrestling? I started watching wrestling in the early 90's. I first remember seeing WCW on ITV probably around '91/'92. Then we got sky on cable and there was a big craze with WWF in my area. The first PPV I remember watching was RR 93. My fav wrestler at that time was Bret Hart, possibly 'cos he was champ.
I followed WWF troughout Secondary School untill about 97/98. I remember following the NWO on WCW at that time. But honestly from then I haven't realy followed wrestling much untill recently. I have to say it has changed quite a lot. But I think every form of entertainment has to evolve. Very little in the entertainment world is the same as 20 yrs ago.
There are a few things I would consider as to why wrestling to me is now different.
Keyfab is gone, maybe the explosion of the internet had contributed to this. The contrast between face/heel is different, its more about anti-heros now. With this you can't feel emphaty towards anyone, you don't realy care what happens to them. More PPVs now, no sqash matches on the weekly shows. With this, I feel less excitment for the main events 'cos I've seen them 10 times before. Titles change far to often, feels less importance on them now. But maybe the biggest difference is, I've grown up and my imagination is not the same as when I was a kid.

Been on a huge wrestling buzz since easter, watching every PPV I can remember since I was younger(nearly 18 now, so not nearly as old as the rest of you'se) I just cant get enough of the theme songs, I can remember them all too well, and getting the smackdown titantron for a birthday!.

As your man above pointed out, Getting up to watch smackdown on sky1 was a good memory, But I will alaways remember sneaking downstairs to watch RAW with the big brothers, theyd have to hide me when the folks came into the room, as it was past my bedtime.

    Sorry for the bump.

Love this video,2001 was probably my favourite WWE year ever,Heyman and JR on commentary + the invasion angle and the influx of guys like RVD,Lance Storm etc.

Loved the alliance of HHH,Austin and Vince too.

Thinking about it id say 2000 was my favourite year in the WWF during the attitude era. So many outrageous moments.

    Some of my favourite moments.

The return of Cactus Jack and the feud with HHH.

Austin returning for one night only with the beer belly at Backlash :D

Undertaker appearing for the 1st time as the American badass.

Not really a well remembered moment but I remember I couldnt stop laughing at the time.

    HHH - "Holy ****". I think he returned a week later :D

So many other moments but these are just off the top of my head.

I'll throw Summerslam 2002 on at least once a year for nostalgia and the sheer workrate awesomeness of that PPV.. I imagine in 10 years the only PPV from this period, that i'd watch would be MiTB, i doubt i'll get the same wonderfully nostalgic feelings though..

Yeah the opener with Angle vs Rey was the start of what was a superb PPV.

Apart from The Fink talking about his wiener :D
