right went down to D8 fitness on Cork Street - deadly shop - all kinds of cross fit type stuff weighted clubs kettle bells all sorts of mad stuff and the dude there has it all made bespoke for him its kinda cool.. anyway the vest is 10 KG - 50 quid... I think thats a deadly deal, seeing as its tough thick material and seems like it will take a beating. I did a training session with a mate on a green, sprints, squats, sit ups, jogging etc and man you get a sweat going and it really gets you breathing hard driving that extra weight, then I took it off and I was like freakin Hussein bolt light as a feather... and I can feel me muscles worked hard even straight after the session. I took out 2 of the kilo's to get me started and 8 kilo's was perfect, touch but doable... as I get stronger I'll ad the other 2 kilo's. The vest sits comfortably on your shoulders and nothing about it hurt anything i.e. chaffing or anything.. I put it on and put a hoody over it (obviously my super awesome armchair UFC fan UFC hoody) so people wouldn't think I'm a bleedin terrorist and that works well... push ups are great with it... the velcro strap holds tight you can kinda wear it as you like, different kinda positions you can put the strap etc you work out the best way for you sort of thing.

Anyway I'm delighted with it - it's basically a gym - you're doing more work and working muscles harder than body weight exercises and you're getting used to driving that weight and then you take it off and you're flying around. I'm gona run up Tick Knock with it on next week ! I'd recommend it but what do I know I just started. Every exercise in your session is loaded so you're gona develop power with this thing definitely.. I think a good approach is to set up a circuit or a session and do half or two thirds with it on then take it off for the last half or third. Deffo wouldn't rush into the 20 Kilo vest if you've not used one before - will limit your movement too much and demotivate you but I can see myself gettin up to a 20 kilo vest in a years time - I'm only 12 stone.

Is the 20 kg one very different in size and shape from the 10 kg one? I was thinking of getting a 20 kg one with a view to only having a few kg in it at first (certainly less than 10 kg) but liked the idea of having the scope to build up to 20 kg eventually, and thought it would be more economical than getting the 10 kg one and having to upgrade later. But I was only looking at them on the website. Did you get to try the 20 kg one on to compare?

I have seen the X-Vest recommended a lot on sites, but they are expensive

    http://www.amazon.com/Xvest-X4040-40-Pound-Weight-Vest/dp/B000FN7SCU.

At higher weights it is more of an issue.

This weighted vest looks not too bad
Yeah, that MIR is highly rated too, and cheaper than x vest. I was reading about them before on a gymnastics site where they are concerned with comfort and even weight distribution.
I have an MiR vest. It's very high quality, fits snuggly, works great. The weight is focused more on the chest and upper back which is a plus for some skills, compared to X-Vest which the weights a bit more distributed. MiR and X-Vest are probably the only weight vests worth investing in. I've used another and it was pretty crud in comparison.

I went with an ironmind dip belt as I wanted a fair bit of weight and was only really doing chins & dips, and squats (I have no rack)

I have seen a stupidly simple DIY weight vests before. You get 2 plates, say 2 5 kg plates, put a loop of rope between them and hang it on your shoulders, so it looks like a big medallion on the front and the same on your back. Then you could wear a tight t shirt to hold it close to your body if needed.

You can see they add padding for the shoulders. You can get shoulder padding that fits onto webbing cheap enough.

Bought one of these years ago, great fit and easily adjustable. Bit more expensive though.

That site is not bad for lots of stuff, worth a browse if your looking to buy.
