Front Squats how low?

I've been doing front squats for a few weeks now and I was wondering how low should one go while doing them.

I have been working on my hip flexibility over the last couple of months and I have made some good improvements there so I can squat down almost to 7 or 8 centimetres from the floor.

I experimented a bit this morning with going down to different heights and obviously the lower I go the more effort it is to come back up. I normally go to parallel but if it's better to go lower I will.

I'm 172 centimeters and I'm currently front squatting only 55kg. (still easing myself in). I have had trouble back squattting before (tweaked my lower back more than once) so I find front squats much better in terms of maintaining correct body position.

As low as you can, while still maintaining technical excellence.

That point will be different for everyone.

How close your a$$ gets to the floor also depends on your leg length relative to torso, and femur relative to tibia.

There's really no one answer. But lets go with: "at a minimum, below parallel"

Thanks thats pretty much what I thought. I definietly go down to parallel at the moment. I think I'll try a bit lower for a while and see how I get on.

I front squat in the clean. Only 50kg today, but for me, if I dont go fully down, I feel it in knees more than if I go all the way down. I have no idea why.

SO for me its all the way down.
Just take good care with technique and you will be fine.

Also, are you doing olympic style or the cross arms like you see bodybuilders doing? Just out of curiosity

I would say go below parallel, but I wouldn't suggest going as low as possible, its hard to maintain good form and not "bounce" if your main thought is to go as low as possible.

Gotta love front squats, Overheads is the next step :-)

I'm going to stick with just going below parallel and maintain proper form and technique. If I go right to the bottom with a loaded bar then there seems to be a little wobble which is Bad.

I am using the cross arms style as I find it easier to keep the bar from rolling off that way. I must try it the proper way.
