Froch vs Bute

This looks to be the next big fight on the horizon after the cancellation of Khan Vs Peterson. They'll square of for Bute's IBF title in Froch's home town on the 26th May.

I'm a bit of a Bute fan but this is his first real step up in class. For me he is by far the superior boxer in this one with better hand speed, movement, footwork, shot selection and a better boxing brain than Carl. He doesn't throw an awful lot but is accurate and hits hard. I see him winning a comfortable decision but its an interesting fight. We get to see how he deals with fighting away from home for a change, against a solid durable opponent. I'm not a huge Froch fan. He's done well with the talent he has but is limited and will struggle against anyone slick.

The big question mark over Bute is his chin and durability. He had that hairy moment against Andrade and there's no doubt Froch will pile the pressure on in the closing rounds. How do you folks see this one going?

Nothing really to add, Maravilla33 has said what I feel. Froch is too crude and telegraphed and Bute should expose this. Not saying he will, but slicksters with skills and toughness will beat Car Froch.

He is just not a very good boxer. Big, durable, fit, strong. But against an equal, with skills and polish, he loses. Ward wasn't the only one to expose this. Taylor outboxed Froch for large parts of their fight.

But, will Bute get thru it? Sometimes the superior skilled man can lose focus, lose rhythm, and end up being beaten at their foes game.

As did Dirrell. He was unlucky not to get the nod in their fight.

Kessler just scored a spectacular knockout against Allan Green. KO of the year candidate.

I hope Froch wins because love his attitude... takes on all comers.

Though I expect him to be not outworked but outclassed by Bute, he's a fairly slick boxer and Carl will struggle against him.

Don't know how likely a hometown decision he could get, but I'd favour Bute in this one

Surely there's still questions over Butes stamina against the top level opponents? I really like watching his style but he's faced nothing like Froch before who will just keep coming, this is Butes first fight against the real top guys.
    Can't wait.

Froch is a slow starter and doesn't really fight at a fast pace for most of his fights. He usually comes on strong in the last few rounds but could be too late by then. Really fancy Bute to do a job on him.

Bute really piles on the pressure too from the middle of the fight onwards, I reckon he will be too much for Froch. If Froch were to sort his guard out I would give him a better chance.

Bute hanging/dropping his left can prove so distracting for opponents. Froch might have a half decent chin (though taylor stung him with a right handily enough) but Froch's flailing arms won't guard him against left upper cut / right hook too long. Bute by KO with Froch down couple of times in early rounds.

I think Carl's chin is sturdy, but maybe a tad overrated. You could be onto something, makl.

Froch's best chance is to swarm Bute and make this a phone booth fight. Give Bute any space and he's tagging Froch conistently.

....with body shots especially, chippin away at frochs engine.

froch prob has to go all out early to have any chance i think. swarm him as you put it.

Froch on points. If Brian Magee can go 10 rds in Canada i think Froch can go better than that in Nottingham.

I was thinking of this too, but did you not get the feeling that Bute carried Brian, and that Bute looked uninterested for large parts of the fight. Any time Bute unloaded and committed he was so far ahead. He just didn't really bother too much. Now, Froch will make him bother and will be a far deadlier threat. Bute on points.

Yeah i suppose so alright. Im just carrying the hopes that Froch will look good for a lot of the fight because hes outputting more work rate to negate Butes lesser output and better quality. With home being huge Bute might not sneak anything close if it goes to the cards and he will need to be keener than ever but will he!.

I think Bute will definitely be up for this, this is his real chance to silence those that say he has not been tested yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,787 ✭✭✭Jayob10

tomorrow night Bute will go mainstream :D

I think he'll have far too much for Froch and comfortably so.

On a side note, I expect Eddie Hearn to lose a **** load of money on this fight, the fight hasn't even sold 9,000 tickets and Bute will have cost big bucks to get the fight in Nottingham.

Froch also last his last fight in Nottingham I believe, received a home town decision against Dirrell.

Interesting. But, I would imagine neither man walks around close to 12 stone. Froch looked really ripped at the weight, so I assume he too had to drop lbs in the last week(s).

i hope bute can win this id like to see him and ward, froch for me is overrated although tough, imo he has no doubt fought good level fighters buts lets be honest, he was out classed by taylor and got the lucky punch in, dirrell i think beat him as did ward and kessler, and he struggled with an old old johnson, thing is im not sure how good bute is so froch might have a chance.

Not that much. I remember reading, being the clean living soul he is, he floats not too much above that between fights. Not that it will make a difference but i think he's more natural at the weight.

Froch leaves himself open quite a bit and will always be vulnerable to a smooth operator but if he drags Bute into the trenches he'll surely beat him. I give him a decent chance.

nothing to do with Eurovision being on earlier? I like Froch and would like to see him win this but think Bute might just have his number. I can see him being stopped. Fingers crossed he can actually pull it out of the bag though
