Am I detecting by the "tones of voice" here that Crossfit is turning a corner in people's heads and the craze is ending?

    The craze is only beginning.

If I'd become a physio instead of a trainer, I'd be cleaning up in 5 years.

From what I hear from folk in the USnA, guys who are nothing to do with the fitness industry, it's the name on everyone who is looking for training's lips. like aerobics, boxercise, TaeBo etc. Are you going Crossfitting today? Reebok caught the whiff early on and they're constantly looking for the next new big thing... see their heavy promotion of step aerobics for an example of how they push a system... I think generally the standard of Crossfit training is poor, but the notion of Elite training for all doesn't seem to have set off the irony detectors anywhere so far.

It's here to stay though but once the Kool Aid runs out and the reebok dollars dry up I wonder if they will have alienated their base membership.

And they'll be rich and fat enough to not give a sh1t.

The Pilates Euros are OK, but they've got nothing on Olympic Yoga.

Wow this forum is so anti-crossfit.

Wow this forum is so anti-crossfit.

It's fun to make fun of it even so I've still been following the regionals. I can't help it despite my annoyance at the total abuse of the phrase world-record in all the coverage. I also dislike most of the presenters especially that muppet with the bow-tie.

I had to unsubscripe to the crossfit youtube channel this week but before i did i say rich froning doing the snatch and skipping exercise and was extremely impressed.

Timbersports on Eurosport is where it is at

    http://www.stihltimbersports.us/playing-with-pain.aspx

"One bad break occurred from a broken leg that caused Lentz to sit out for a season. On the job, Lentz was operating a knuckleboom loader when the machine malfunctioned, throwing him from the seat. The resulting injury tore four inches of his femur. Several operations including skin and bone grafts later, he was back in action but not without a handicap.
"That one made me lose about 40 percent of the function in my left leg muscle and thigh," he said. "So my transition from forward to backward movement on that side has really affected me a lot, like in the one-man single buck event."

A Managed IT company I come across in work gives (IIRC) everyone Friday morning off every week but you can only take it if you do Crossfit in that time. You can't just go to the gym, has to be Crossfit.

This is in Dublin, an Irish company.

    It begins.

Oh I'm actually pretty sure I know who this is too.

That's a pretty common thing for companies in the US to do these days. I applied for job with a company in the US not so long ago. On one of the phone interviews they were talking about benefits and along with health insurance etc they provide a membership to the local crossfit.

It's a cool thing to do and all, but I'd much prefer that cash going into my pocket.

Probably not. I don't think me taking pics of food and pics of myself on the toilet would make a good business case.

It's one word and the 'C' and 'F' should be capitalised.

    What do i win?

So, one company probably got a group discount on a fitness thing and it happens to be cross fit. Not that disturbing.

The only thing that's a bit dodge about it is that a large portion of staff are going to be missing at a certain time on Friday, but it wouldn't be any different if they were at a yoga class or spinning or anything else.

Just disturbing that they impose that version of fitness on their employees, not everyone wants to do crossfit or get the results you get from crossfit

They're not really imposing it on them though. (Unless I'm, missing something here.)

    Eh... Cop the hell on?!

They're "imposing" it on their employees by giving them the option to miss work and train in a really expensive gym free of charge?! The absolute Nazi's. What is this world coming to? HOW DARE THEY!!!!!

(Attack the post not the poster Hanley :) ) Give them the option to take the Friday morning off to do some physical activity in line with what the individual wants, whether it be running / swimming / kayaking / weightlifting. Who cares if crossfit is expensive, it's not rocket science what they are providing.

    No.

Most people given that option would just go for a ten minute walk or something, then if they get away with doing that will just stay in bed.

Whatever your opinion of crossfit is, im sure one of the reasons it was chosen is the company knows whether someone attends or not, as well as the fact that whatever workout they do will not be too easy and will have health benefits.

I doubt cost had anything to do with it being chosen

It's a brilliant team building idea to be fair. The workouts change every week so it's great variety. Personally, I'd rather do Crossfit on a Friday morning with the lads than play football or tennis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,693 ✭✭✭Thud

it's probably like that to stop them going on the doss for the morning. Give them the gym option and some of them will sit on an exercise bike reading a magazine for an hour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭diegowhite

Yes the accountability is there that would otherwise not be, though the employees should not be punished (ie. having to do more hours of work than others) because they do not like a certain style of fitness. Just like one would be pissed if they didn't like golf and other workers who did got the time off to do that while the rest worked in the office

They had a choice, they said no. They chose to be "punished", maybe they are some kind of masochists.

But what if the business owner gets a massive discount/comp for his own membership fee from the crossfit affiliate and that is why they plug the affiliate?
    It's just business.

Employer pays for morning off work?

Are we seeing a bad side here?
