Just wondering how they do it? With repeating threads/topics, repeating stock answers, repeat offenders, repeating banality

How / Why do they do it?

What keeps you wanting to do it? What keeps you sane?

(Stock answer spoiler: "fap fap", "gulg gulg", "punch something/someone", "drink / drugs" etc)

I feed them white chocolate laced with ecstasy for every asshole that they ban.

    It keeps them happy.

A novel approach, but an incentive none the less

Nice. Genuine question. I'm an occasional user of boards, even before I had an account. Some of the same Mods have been here for years

Well first they must have an inordinate sense of justice.

    Secondly they must be *****.

Thirdly they must have no life.

Fourthly they must believe that they are 'in it for the principle of the thing' 'to protect the internetz from bad guys'. :pac: In it for the 'moderation'. A higher purpose.

    Fifthly they must be *****.

Sixthly they must have a computer, preferably with with the internetz.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Born to Die

TBH it is the fact that their lives are mundane, empty. They were all bullied at school, stayed in their rooms and never developed relationships outside of virtual one's.

Moderation is like an internship, someone getting someone to do the work for no visible material/monetary gain. Exploitation of the weak and needy whose only pleasure is when they are given a ban hammer to play with. Each time they use it they picture the bloke that bullied them at school or the bloke that was nailing the girl they could only look at from a distance and fap over from the safety of their box room.

Then again this may all be incorrect assumptions and infact they are all snorting coke all day while sending out for a different batch of hookers by the truckload.

Either way they do a great job keeping cnuts in place and this place the best forum on the internet.

The mods on the football forum are too funny.

Banning people for no reason and then extending the ban for asking why you got banned in the first place.

They were defo bullied at school.

(yes im bitter for being banned)

These threads are always closed before (or sometimes after) some idiot decides to take petty digs at the mods.

True. And inevitably you find that the person who was banned for "no reason" was actually banned for a very good and obvious reason which is apparent to everyone except themselves.

I find this funny. Because I find obvious and repetitive things funny.

The Coke (tescos value) and hookers (now front-row forwards) were always a plus, as was access to the Sex and Sexuality forum.

    Ah those were the days.

Mods need these characteristics to make it:

    1)patience

3)can never be partial, everyone must be treated equal

    4)leadership and integrity

5)repect for others and respected by others

    6)just overall knowledge

    7) Since off humour

8)Time ...as its not a quick or easy task to sort , follow , reply , relocate threads ect

    9) Large inbox to take the fall out when something goes wrong ( site crashing ect )

10 ) Holiday pay would be great to i guess ;)

you forgot to add a borderline zealous approach to rule enforcement , though this varies from mod to mod , some show common sense disgression while others are flat out anally retentive , boards.ie is incredibly nanny statish compared to other forums , if you dont toe a strict pc political or cultural agenda , your an enemy

What I've always wondered, certainly for the most active fora, and the most active mods of them, how they can spare so much time for them. Certainly for the likes of AH there's room for a little fun / smartarsery, but it's some commitment.

I will say though, if you get a ban for a wee stretch take it on the nose, they can't make exceptions for anyone. Mods ban other mods, and I think that's lost on most. Try not to be a dick on boards and you will enjoy it more, and less trouble for the mods that have to endure the same crap day in day out.

What is it like moderating "The Lock Inn"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭Delancey

I became a moderator because I was promised unlimited access to no-strings sex but the bastards lied to me.....they lied !!!

With the exception of spammers I don't enjoy banning or sanctioning someone . Moderators always have to act in the best interests of their forum - peronal differences or preferences don't enter into it.

Well I'm a hosted moderator, which means I only moderate a private forum. Because its a private forum, the prospective members get a mention to the other mods before they are approved, it's not just up to any one mod.

    Its fairly trouble free :)
