Hi, i recently cut bread out of my diet, however i have noticed that i do not have as much energy anymore, especially when i go to the gym in the evening... i was thinking of adding whole wheat pasta to my chicken salad at lunch as i don't really take in any other carbs...

1 - is whole wheat pasta the healthiest
2 - is there a healthier carb food that i could use instead

Thanks in advance for you help...

Hi, thanks for the reply... potatoes are better than pasta... really...

I would say no pasta is ideal, wholemeal is just as bad as regular white pasta, both utter ****e - rice would be a better option, as would potatoes like boomtown said.

If you are dead set on having pasta, I would not be too worries about whether its white or brown

Ok, pasta has been removed from the shopping list... i am not looking for taste, i am purely looking at adding some carbs to my diet at lunch so that i have more energy in the evening... so if potatoes are the best carb you can consume, i will run with those ;)

There's no such thing as the best carb. They serve a purpose (providing energy) and thats it. If you get a few extra nutrients from them then that's a bonus.

If the rest of your diet includes fruit and veg and you just want a bit of extra energy, just eat whichever one you prefer. Some people feel very 'stodgy' or bloated after pasta so just choose whichever one makes you feel the best for your evening workout.

I would of thought wholewheat pasta is better than white potatoes concerning how quickly it releases energy into the blood stream.
The nutritional value of a potato has its benefits but if you're eating its to sustain energy for a number of hours maybe there is a "better" complex carb, this is more of a question really..

I would avoid concentrating so much on what's the healthiest and eat what you enjoy and simply control your calorie intake.

There's no point going down a route of choosing to eat wholewheat pasta when you really prefer normal pasta as this is not something you will stick to.

simply eat it less often or eat smaller portions of it.

Pasta itself is not a "problem"

It usually Irish people in general eat portions that are far too big and as part of a dish rather than the pasta been the dish.

Lasagne with pile of chips and coleslaw for example.

if italians were doing this they'd have one of the worlds biggest obesity problems.

Brown rice is a pretty good complex carb.Much healthier than white as far as i know.
You can also get brown rice pasta in alot of supermarkets.

There are also a small amount of carbs in greens and other veg.
You could eat a decent amount of veg, a decent amount of protein and just have a small side of complex carbs.

oh, lastly if you try brown rice, try putting some turmeric, cumin, currypowder, garlic, salt pepper in the pot with the water your boiling it in(after washing the rice).
    It will taste amazing ;)
Left till the next day in the fridge it would be quite nice with a chicken salad lunch.

Best carbs to eat IMO would be potatoes, sweet potatoes then white rice. I think you'll feel better if you eat ten rather instead if pasta.

I would also say go for white over brown rice
