    Hi all.

As the thread title suggests, I am looking for cheap strength training options. I cannot afford a gym membership and don't have that much money at all really to spend on home equipment but I really want to start doing some strength training.

I have never done any strength training, weights or resistance training and am currently quite over weight. I am calorie counting at the moment which has got me more interested in the health and nutrition side of weightloss and have been reading that strength training is good for weight loss as it builds muscle which will then in turn burn more fat than if I was just to do cardio on it's own.

The only exercise I do (on a good week) would be a brisk walk 5 times a week.

Any tips or help would be much appreciated.

There are plenty of bodyweight exercises that can be put together into a good circuit, such as push ups, sit ups, pull ups, squats, lunges, etc. There are plenty more so you won't get bored. A good book with lots of bodyweight exercises is "You are your own gym", there is also an iPhone/iPad app with training plans and a description of the exercises.

Remember looking at the videos for this and was turned off straight away when he was calling me "comrade". Just teach me, no gimmicks.

EDIT: Also very interested in this topic, leaving the country soon and will be without equipment and a gym till I get setup. Would love some stuff to fall back on in my free time.
