I play with 4 gigs ram, dual core 2 x 3 ghz CPU and nvidea GTX8800 with 1024 MBs ram and it's perfect on high settings. Runs very smooth even in big city's.

Your comp specs beat mine so you should have no problems. Arma 2 is a few years old so you don't need the latest tech to run it.

You'll be able to run it on very high settings and very good FPS (50-60 for the most part). You might dip to 30fps or so depending on the scene but that can happen to any hardware with this engine.

    Cheers.

I actually run DayZ with a HD 7970 and an i5 2500k, and my framerate usually hovers around 40-50FPS, sometimes dipping into the thirties - that's with all the settings to Very High and the view distance set to around 4500m. Some online benchmarks have led me to believe that I should be getting a much better framerate, perhaps somewhere around the 70's.

Arma II seems to be terribly optimised.

    Yeah, I have

    Core 2 Quad @ 2.33GHz per core
    4Gb Ram
    ATI HD 6770 w/ 1Gb Ram.

Plays around 50-60 on normal settings, with anti alias and post processing off.

However, it's all very server dependent, fps varies wildly depending on what server you are on and how long it has been since a server restart.

Very similar spec to mine. FPS only lags when the server lags. I have everything set to normal, post-processing off, shadows set to high and view distance set to mid. I think the old cards have some life in them yet!

I will know it's time for a new system when Bethesda release a game I can't run!

I think someone here already mentioned that the draw distance is set be the server, so it shouldn't matter.
I'd overclock your I5, that will produce the best performance increase. you can probably go to 4.2Ghz with stock cooling, arma2 is a cpu beast, although it's been getting better with every patch, solid 80 /90 fps at the moment with an i5 @4.2ghz and a 670gtx oc. Turn off post processing and anti aliasing for the biggest return. Do not run anything on low because it throws the work to the PC.

The stock coolers are not great on them to be honest so I don't think he'd get that much (with a custom cooler, I'd say no probelm).

Yeah, I did actually overclock the CPU to 4.3Ghz. I could, however, check to see if it actually reaches that clock speed when the game's running. It could be that the "Turbo" isn't kicking in. I don't run the CPU at a constant Overclock, and it usually idles around 1.6Ghz.

I have AA and Post Processing set to Very High, so I could probably try lowering them and see what happens.

Try reducing the AA a bit, and using the FXAA or PPAA built into the beta patches. You can find out how to enable them in the readme file for the beta patches.
Also in the options, under 'Video Memory', set that to 'Default' as opposed to 'very high'. Default will use the maximum amount of RAM it can, whereas as very high uses a set amount (odd I know).

Nothing worse than being caught out in the wilderness with a broken leg and no Morphine.

Didn't know Bohemia implemented FXAA. Will definitely have to try that out!

I think the old I5s are rated at 90 degrees max, you'd be surprised how easy they overclock, test it under full load for 20 minutes and if it doesn't go over 80 you're solid, saying that my new I5 is rated at 105 degrees and I've never had it go over 68 so far at 4.2.
I do have a custom cooler, but it's more for quietness rather than cooling.

I also do not hard clock it, so it does drop when I don't need all the power.

Does anyone here play DayZ with a GTX 570 and a an i5 2500k? If so, what settings are you able to run it on, and at what framerate?

The reason I'm asking is that I have an old GTX 570 that I'm throwing into a new build for my brother, and I wanted to know what kind of performance he could expect, what with all the new beta drivers and patches that have popped up for ARMA.

    I have a GTX 570 Its good !

'Limited' only by a decision of whether or not to install it :D

I've downloaded it...gonna wait a couple of hours for some more servers to update and then give it a shot.

Choppers to be added in very soon also apparently!

They are already available but disabled on the Boards server (for good reasons). The fact that the radar has been disabled and now the helicopter pilot won't be able to track the other vehicles is a step towards reactivating it I think.

Geez thank god for that server restart.

Fps increase and finally came across a heli crash that hadn't already been picked clean. lol.

Although I only found an M14 AIM and a butt load of ammo. Must've been 40 mags for every 7.62mm weapon.

It's a mod in it's alpha, close to beta stages. These updates are needed to address issues and create a better mod for us all.

The only real issue is how slow it is for servers to update.

    And rightly so.
One bad update could kill a servers reputation.

Many of thea changes in 1.7.2.4 include changes in the way the game communicates with the Hive. These changes require every server to be running the latest version of both the Mod and the Hive component, run with BattlEye enabled, as well as a recent beta build of at least 95389.

To make sure every server is in sync with the recent developments, we are required to disable older versions of the Hive extension from being functional in the near future, which, at this point, is estimated to occure in about 36 hours from the sending of this email (subject to change). Tomorrow morning there will be a final wording regarding this subject.
The re-introduction of Helicopters is directly affili ated to this change and thus they will not be functional till previous versions of both DayZ as well as the Hive component have deflated, as the changes of the recent patch are mandatory to make them functional.

Further testing also showed a small bug in the Hive component, for which we will be releasing a second update for on the server side (0.7.2).

    Changelog:
    * [FIXED] Vehicles with ID's above 1 million don't syncronize.
    * [FIXED] First object in the database not being loaded.

Again you must be running a build that is at least 95389, BattlEye has to be enabled for your server to be fully functional and it is very import that you update your Hive component t o the latest version within the next 24 hours.

Email from DayZ, IE1 will be updated tomorrow

Do tents generally disappear after updates? I remember trouble with tents in the past where they've just disappeared along with everything in them. Was this update related?

yup.. tried 3 or 4 times just started playing on uk 131 then. Killed someone with a M4 scoped/silenced. Pleased.

Maybe its cause I have the latest update? I dont see the server in the Ingame browser either, I have to connect with the -connect switch.

Also,, I hit a deer in Dayz with a car the other, this didnt happen, shame it would have been cool if it did..

My six updater automatically applied the new patch, now I can't play on any server!

Can some one tell me how to undo the patch?

Boards is still on Beta Patch: (i googled the beta patch number as the BI studio Beta patch page is down) http://www.playerattack.com/file/25799/ARMA-2-Operation-Arrowhead-Patch-1.61-BETA-Build-95248/

    - extract to the beta folder in your ARMA directory ie, D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe

Dayz, download the version you want from here: http://us2.dayz.nu/old/

-extract to the @Dayz filder in your Arma \ Addons folder.
