i think it's inevitable we'll be getting the final Rhodes/Big Show match

possibly a triple threat tag title match with Kofi/Truth vs Ziggler/Swagger vs Primo/Epico

Is this box office or free? I'm really hoping its the latter, cause I'm really down about the current state of the product and might be tempted to just Youtube the Punk/Bryan match....

I dont think RAW's last ditch effort will draw much. Nobody cares for laurinaitis and they've done almost nothing hyping Punk and Bryan.

I'll still watch it though, either live or on Monday :)

Punk is going to Smackdown this week. That will save the day.

Lets be realistic, WWE know a certain number of PPV's are not going to get big buys. This is one of them. They are not going to push things too hard on RAW/Smackdown with such a short time to build for the PPV, save the best stuff for bigger PPV's.

Just try to enjoy it. The card is not that bad considering the build up.

The WWE should be a top match. the EHC match has a lot of potential. The Tag match is going to be good. The Cena v Big Johnny match is only there to build for another PPV so try not to over analyse that one!

Possibly a IC v US title match to come based on Cody's tweets. Should be fun with Santino involved.

    That was a effort?
Just hope the two World Title matches get plenty of time and for the love of god don't have Cena vs Laurinaitis as the main event.

Because they don't put much effort in to them. If they put anywhere close to the effort they put in from January to Wrestlemania, all the PPV's would have great buy rates. Instead, they half ass the majority of them and wonder why buy rates are crap.

I don't want to derail this thread but I started that sentence with lets be realistic. Its clear WWE don't sit back and wonder why buy rates for some PPVs are crap. They know they are going to be crap. They were crap last year for Over the limit and will be again this year. WWE had a kiss my foot match last year!

Its impossible to keep momentum going, keep storylines fresh 52 weeks a year with two TV shows each week and the PPV's. Fans will get tired and switch off. Its better to be realistic, recognise that and work towards certain PPV's getting big buy rates.

In that case, why bother with the PPV's if you aren't going to put the effort in to them? The argument seems to be they can put out crap PPV's because they don't expect big buy rates. TNA don't expect big buy rates but I never hear them getting cut any slack as a result, why should WWE? If they can't be bothered with a PPV, just get rid of it. Problem solved.

    Money.

They hold the PPV. Fill seats at the arena, sell merch, sell PPVs and make a nice few quid.

If you can't be bothered watching it, ditch it from your viewing schedule. That's your own problem with WWE's policy solved.

I'm not arguing anything on WWE's behalf. I wouldn't buy it. I will watch it and suggest to anyone else watching not to over analyse it, its not going to be a classic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

I think it's more of ignorance and a self-fulfilling prophesy. "This PPV won't sell so we'll book it accordingly. See? It didn't sell, we were right to book it poorly."

I understand Brock and Rock aren't around but that's no excuse for not selling things and making every story seem important. Now that the pressure of Mania is off it's a chance to build your mid-carders and new Main-Eventers. In short, effort is free and this show smacked of apathy.

Ur right though, it really feels like a throw away PPV as WWE are treating it as such, not even bothering to try hide it.

Big Show run in and gives Big Johnny the win, gets rehired on RAW the next night alright :)

The longer WWE continue to half ass PPV's, the more the buy rates are going to fall. As if the almost constantly declining ratings wasn't a bad enough sign for them, yet they still continue to throw any old crap out there and expect it to sell.

I don't understand how anyone can condone them half assing something that they charge $40 or $50 for. Raw, Smackdown etc are one thing, PPV's are completely different.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,521 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

I don't condone it, I'm just saying how it is.

This is the time of year WWE dial it in and basically have an off season. If I had my way they would close down for a month and give everyone a proper break.

That's not how an entertainment company floated on the stock exchange is going to do things though.

I will leave it there unless a thread to discuss pops up. Don't want to derail thread anymore than i have.

    _________

Bryan v Punk for WWE title!!!!!!!! Never believed it possible.

I don't think he's condoning it, rather explaining WWE's odd mindset.

Its that mindset that has them really needing to bring back and lean on old names like Taker, Triple H, Rock, Lesnar and more than likely Austin again. They haven't made a long term star in forever and ignoring most your ppv's isn't productive long term.

I think AJ will interfere or be involved somehow in the WWE Title match not sure tbh if it will be in favour of Bryan or Punk just seeing as there was some interaction with her and Punk on Raw this week and they seem to keep her interacting with Bryan on SD

i liked the angle they had on raw with letter from the board of directors about the stipulations for the cena vs lauranitus match with the 1 on 1, no guest refree nobody at ring side and if anyone interferes there fired in my opion there setting it up for brock to return at over the limit and screw cena for beating him because he has apartently quit so he cant be fired or what ever meaning the big johnny is gonna keep his job and no doubt brock will get re hired at some point and it will be brock vs HHH at another PPV

Dont think they would waste one of Brocks dates like that but change Brock with Big Show and you wouldn't be far away. Johnny gets the win after Show hits Cena with the WMD and he gets himself rehired the following night on Raw joining Johnnys stable of buddies.

Problem with that is Big Show turns every few months. Nobody will care as it'll be pretty obvious to anyone who has watched WWE for more than a few months.

He should just be a monster heel all the time, don't know why they insist on making him a comedy baby face every few months.

If Big Show turns into Laurinaitis' henchman is that a snub of Lord Tensai?
Wasn't he meant to be having a run with Cena.

He went from main eventing Raw last week (in a badly rated segment) to wrestling Tyson Kidd on the Superstars this week. Not saying his push is OVER but it is interesting.

Yeah probably too early to speculate but I wonder are they getting cold on the character considering the crowd reaction to him has been fairly poor since they've had him on tv.

interesting to see who the crowd will side with for the WWE title match. true Punk is very popular but the crowd might be feeling especially smarky that night

please make the tag title match a last minute hair vs hair stipulation and do Swagger a favour

There has been talk online surrounding Batsta's return. I highly doubt it will happen tonight but it would be great to see him back in the WWE considering his career in MMA was a total failure.
In regards to OTL tonight, I think most people know what to expect. A substandard Event in which every result can be predicted.
I guess thats why its free. It will be worth the watch none-the-less! :)

    This'll draw in the numbers.

    WWE has announced the
    addition of the following
    matches for tonight's Over The
    Limit pay-per-view.
    -People Power Battle Royal.
    -Battle Royal winner challenges
    for either the Intercontinental
Title or U.S. Title later in the show.
    Bowel's POV: I suck

Delighted to see they added a Battle Royale and another title match to the card. Should make it a bit more interesting anyway. I dont get people complaining about the PPV tonight. I think their is some very good matches in store for us.

Getting myself in the mood at the moment watching WWE Vintage on SS4 drinking a few bottles :)

I'd put €5 down on Batista doing the run-in for the Johnny/Cena match.

I already have my bets for the night on this match, I just thought you were offering to put down a 5er with another member.

The chances of PP offering a market are slim anyway. I could only imagine the customer service heh heh.

Quite looking forward to a couple of the matches.

May I just ask though in the prediction thread almost everyone said sheamus would be retaining tonight? Have i missed something here or is it just the home favourite?

I just pray to god that daniel byran doesnt win and cena slips on some of the big shows comfort ice cream on the way out and breaks an ankle:D

I think Orton will do it. The build up has been quite interesting so should be a good match.

Read a WWE preview blog earlier and someone also had very good reasoning for ADR to win it. Weird one but was good.
