Twitter (And that's only because it's handy for contacting certain companies).

I've got a ghost account from Bebo from when I was 12 though. Been meaning to delete that.

    Is poll broken?

I'm on Facebook and that's it. Never did Bebo and Myspace. Was a latecomer to Facebook as well.

Bebo was my first. Deleted that a few months ago after not logging on to it in over a year. Moved to Facebook and then Twitter, use the two regularly.

Myspace - Deleted and never really used it.
Bebo - Profile still there, holds sentimental value
    Facebook - Yes.
    Twitter - Yes.
Google+ - Yes but not really active on it.

I'm on other sites like Pinterest, that seems to be getting popular now.

I'm sure I joined loads of sites when they were all on the go but can't remember any them.

I genuinely feel a bit sorry for people who claim that Boards.ie is a social network and indeed is the only one they use...

Personally I have personal accounts on Facebook and Google+. I operate the company accounts for the same and a number of other social networks. Reading twitter makes me fear for the future of the species, it really is http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3owe5a/

The only reason I use Facebook is because everyone I know is still using it. Google+ is superior in each and every way, yet the mass migration there hasn't began yet sadly. I do try to post/be active on G+ though regardless. I absolutely hate Facebook and the "improvements" they keep forcing on the users.

With all that being said, with the "land of the brave and the home of the free" trying to stick their head into everyone's private business more and more (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-57428067-83/fbi-we-need-wiretap-ready-web-sites-now/?tag=mncol%3BmorePosts), I'm considering deleting my social networking accounts.

No I'm not bothered expanding on it, if you believe that you're socially networking when you're making anonymous comments on a discussion forum then you've to get out of the house more.

Post-posting edit: ****e, sorry Micky, I didn't realise you were the one who posted Boards.ie and were indeed the only one. Don't take this as some form of personal shot at you as a result, I genuinely thought there was more than just yourself who posted it.

So cool. I hope you tell your mother what great friends you've made on Boards.ie when she's bringing you your meals at the computer. Can't risk missing a moment of the "lols" with your close buddies on Boards.ie after all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,893 ✭✭✭Canis Lupus

Because you can't make a thread saying:

OMG all some people want to do is bring you down.

    where someone replies:

    What's wrong?

    And you say:

Don't want to talk about it here.

If you do that a boards mod will lock the thread and ban you. Which is a good thing of course.

Yes, but on social networking sites you can identify and ignore that person both online and in person forever.

That, my friend, is greater than any "ban" you can be handed on vbulletin software.

I can see you're *trying* to get a point together here, but it kind of falls flat on its face when the realities of how quick people can type are brought into the equation. If you average a post at 30 seconds, that's 13 minutes of active participation on the site, for 5 days. Thus, the point you're grasping at is fairly fecking weak.

    No, not really.

A social network account is attached to a person, or even a company, but lets just say an actual entity. A user created discussion board account is attached to nothing. Dicking about on a social network reflects on an actual real life entity, be it company or person, and will stick with that person or company, their behaviour there will affect how they are perceived offline and on. Dicking about on a discussion board reflects on that account and nothing but that account and the history of that account dies the minute the user behind it logs off and doesn't use that account again.

Feels kind of weird that this needs to be explained.

Do people type slower on facebook, twitter, et cetera? You made a point about people using these needing to go out more. Maybe they go out enough, and they can type quickly?

Edit: Or maybe they already are out, and are accessing said social media while out? Do the out need to go out more? Like the double rainbow, double out?

I've been able to avoid the timeline nonsense. Whenever I see people looking at an article on, say the guardian I have to copy the name of the article or else it'll change me to timeline. Don't want that.

Twitter - Yes - Love it! Follow other IT people, they post good articles, blogs etc.

Bebo - No - Deleted it years ago

MySpace - No - Deleted it years ago

Google+ - Yes - Only really started to use it properly when I moved to Phoenix. Nobody used it back in Ireland. The new layout is great.

Facebook - Yes - Took a year off from it but went back to stay in touch with family who refuse to f'kin e-mail!!

    You forgot:

LinkedIn - Good for professionals. Great for blogs, articles and job postings. Also used by a lot of recruiters.

Pinterest - It's becoming huge here but am staying away for now.

changing to the timeline doesn't mean they can access your data. You have to agree to it or when you read something on another site for example choose to post it on FB. & you'll have to get the TL sometime or else leave FB

pintrest look's shít, to me it looks like a whole site dedicated to FB likes & photos of things

even bebo has more votes than myspace :/ I had a myspace for 4yr. got pally with some nice foreigners far as I recall myspace was the first one to take off on the global scale before facebook took over n killed it; little as three or four years ago
