Not sure, maybe this is the best place to put this. Typhoon Jebi has wreaked havoc on Japan, and there are some shots of the power and damage.

At least now they only have earthquakes and subsequent landslides to worry about.

Just an unlucky by-product of living on a relatively active tectonic area - the "Ring of Fire". Good explainer here : https://www.livescience.com/30226-japan-tectonics-explosive-geology-ring-of-fire-110314.html.

Adding hurricanes/typhoons into the mix doesn't help :(

Unfortunately, for the Japanese, it's pretty much always been like this. Their Islands were formed by volcanoes, in the first place, and there are over 100 active volcanoes over there. Plus, they've always experienced terribly violent weather. Tsunami and Kamikaze are two of the most common words known outside of Japan.

Funnily enough Japan comes No. 155 out of 174 countries in the Natural Disaster World Risk Index as calculated by the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security.

Not surprisingly Japan falls into the the 'very high chance of disasters' category.

Ireland on the other hand is designated as having a 'low chance of disasters' but oddly enough falls outside the "Very low chance of disasters". Listed countries in that category include Iceland* Cyprus** and Barbados*** ....

    See: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_natural_disaster_risk

    *Active volcanoes!
    **Earthquakes
    ***Hurricanes

We're behind Italy, who have had several significant earthquakes in the last few years, and also have several volcanoes.

Whats the biggest natural disaster we face?:confused: apart from Brexit:)

According to the blurb - The Worlds Risk Index is based on the "risk of becoming a victim of a disaster as a result of vulnerability and natural hazards such as earthquakes, volcanic eruption,  storms, floods, droughts and sea level rise for 173 countries worldwide."

Perhaps it's the risk of sea level rise that's skewing our rating? And to be fair we've had a fair amount of floods, drought and storms in the last couple of years...

You may have seen or heard of the trend of using the back wheel scooter to get a playground roundabout to spin around at extremely high speeds while people are on it -the idea being to see who can hold on longest before being flung off.

This is what happens when somebody is caught up somehow and cannot be thrown off, and is consequently subjected to serious centrifugal bloodflow to the head.
It's a bit graphic so I'll just link to it.

    Spiderwebs

Interdimensional spiders. They're about the size of a Mini and they lay webs in tangential dimensions, with strands reaching yours, a strand being their only contact with your dimension.
When you brush up against one, it pulls the spider closer to your reality. Having detected you, it launches more strands in your general direction.
Each time you brush against a "random" strand, (you might even feel one on your face from time to time) it pulls it closer and soon it's so close you can just slightly perceive it, but can do absolutely nothing about it.
Eventually, after as much as years spent closing in, some strangely colored distortion captures your attention, you look at it befuddled, and in that moment it strikes, pulling all the webbing it was sending across the multiverse to your location, carpeting the nearby area with the now unneeded silk.
Local authorities blame millions of small spiders for each scene, but that's of no comfort to the one person who knows exactly what's just transpired...

    :o
