    I workout and im trying to lose a bit of weight so im thinking of cutting out my beer intake. Im just wondering which would you think is the better drink for losing some weight and for bodybuilding? I know neither is 'good' but I like to enjoy my fri/sat nights so I want to drink something.
    btw vodka with a mixer, like juice or coke or something

    Vodka and a juice of some sort is far better than a glass of wine

    Why do you say that? Don't they say wine is good for you?

    Wine=lots and lots of calories
    Vodka=substantially less
    [diet mixer, not juice]

    one glass of red wine a day (small glass) is supposed to be good for your heart due to antioxidants. The research/evidence on this is shaky at best.

    Anything more than 21 units a week is fairly well accepted as being contrary to good health (for a male). 5 pints of guinness is about 12 units. A bottle of 13% white wine is about 8 units.

    Anyway, as the epic rubadub post implies, your drinking behaviour needs to be taken into account. But generally speaking vodka and diet soda is probably the less calorific drink in the bar per unit alcohol.

    I really doubt that it is tbh.

    Bottle of wine = 525 calories (source = here
    The data says its 70.5g of alcohol. Dry white wine is probably the best choice.

    So the equivilent amount in vodka would be about 493 calories (here). Which is 6 to 7 vodka depending on which it is.

    Vodka alone is slightly less. But adding juice its actually a worse choice, certainly not "far better".

    Not really. From he numbers above wine isn't lots and lots of calories.
    Vodka and a diet mixer is a little less. But certainly not substantially so. Both are mroe or less equal really. For reference an equal amount of beer would be c.650 calories.

    OP, take your pick between a dry white wine or vodka with a diet mixer.

    Coke Zero, Diet coke, Pepsi Max*, Sprite Zero etc

    *Pepsi were really years ahead of Coca-Cola in terms of diet/sugar free marketing

    Vodka, Soda water & lime. Awesome.... Although it does look a bit gay when all your mates are drinking pints.

    What about vodka and a mixer when compared to beer or cider?

    Cider would be higher again and the type of beer would cause some variance.
