Ideas for quick healthy breakfast

    Hi guys
    I'm gonna have a good read of the stickies in this forum but am just lookin for ideas for a quick, healthy, low fat brekkie. At the moment my breakfast usually consists of a latte or a cappucino:o. Would museli be a good option or porridge? Do be running around in the morning so don't have time to be cooking stuff.

    If you burn alot of energy i would think complex carbs would be best, if carbs are your poison hehe
    So probably the porridge is better.I think most muesli's you buy in a box/pack are loaded with sugar/carbs which equals afaik more insulin which equals fat storage.
    Check the packs for carbs and sugar content and you could compare them.

    But if you eat something like eggs and spinach with a small amount of butter, without alot of sugar or carbs, your insulin levels should stay level from after sleeping and not cause you to store so much fat if any at all.
    Heres the theory on it as far as i know.

    With all that said.If you really need carbs and sugar for breakfast.i suppose porridge with a little honey would be a good enough choice.


    Anything that takes longer to break down to sugar will help prevent your body storing more fat.
    I think it depends on how much energy you might burn and how fast also.

    So my breakfast might be quite different to most peoples.
    I need to eat about 80% fat as that is my energy source.
    I go through alot of nuts and coconut oil :D

    Also theres the option of left over dinners the next morning.
    I just had a homemade chicken curry for breakfast haha
    Dont know if that seems weird to most people.To me its just really good healthy food whenever i can eat it.

    My problem is I don't feel like eating much in the morning. It does be after lunch when I get hungry. I don't think I could handle anything heavy so will give the porridge a go. Anything is better than a cappucino I suppose:eek:

    I say a good brown bread toasted with a poach egg and a bowl of porridge or ready break ,low fat milk with some berries/honey to sweeten

    A muesli such as LifeForce with no added sugar and little to no salt content is fine. Yes, it does contain a fair amount of naturally occurring sugars but that will be irrelevant over a 24 hour period provided you're not in a caloric surplus.

    Muesli is quite calorie dense, so you have to take that into account for the day if you do use it. I use it myself but weight the portions.

    Holland and Barrett sell a Muesli base with no dried fruit (if you didn't want it).

    As mentioned, porridge is also a good option.

    Basically just try and keep diet in general as natural as possible.

    try
    1 spoonful Porridge Oats
    1 or 2 Spoonful Oat Bran
    1 Spoonful protein powder
    1 Spoonful Fat Free natural Yoghurt
    Maybe add some crushed nuts or peanut butter.
    Mix it up and tear into it - you could sweeten it a tad with honey if its not flavoured enough from your protein powder.

    Cereal with fruit.
    Yogurt.
    Granola.
    Whole grain muffins (if you bake them before hand and just have them ready to go)
    Bagels.
    Bananas.
    OATMEAL :)

    I'm allergic to eggs. I eat porridge usually but has anyone any other ideas for breakfast? Something quick with lots of protein is what I'm hoping for.

    Most information you'll read with regard to nutrition on any forum - most definitely boards.ie will be - misconstrued, misguided and very often flat out wrong.

    Best bet is to do your own research, and if you want some useful advice/opinions you'd be better off finding a more 'nutritionally involved' site. Any of the bodybuilding sites should have more sound advice for you.

    The best breakfast you can have, out of those you listed, is most definitely oats. Get a cup of oats, mix with water, shove it in the microwave. Cook to whatever consistency does the job for you - I think they taste great on their own, but chances are you'll be more used to a bit of sweetness if you're coming from breakfast cereals etc. Use a sprinkling of a low calorie sweetner!

    Muesli would be good if it's natural, but the chances are it's processed sugar ridden rubbish; boxed, packed and sneakily marketed as a health food.

    Eggs / egg whites are always useful if you want to add to your protein intake, which is always useful - you might like a bowl of porridge and a poached egg.

    I heard all-bran is full of sugar :confused: which is weird cos it tastes of absoloutely nothing!

    Nah, I find it tastes quite sweet, if you're used to eating mainly natural, unprocessed foods.

    It is almost one fifth sugar.
