    hi,

while the OH is happy to have chickens for eggs, she really doesn't like the idea of rearing chickens and then taking them off to be killed for eating. She's not vegetarian or anything, just the way she feels etc.....

I would like to be able to rear my own chickens for eating and would take great satisfaction in eating free range that I have been involved in rearing. Has anyone come across the possibility of rearing chickens off-site between a few people locally? kind of like a co-up, or an allotment for chickens! It would mean that there would be 1 set-up cost and possibly more attention paid to the chickens. Everyone takes there turn in feeding etc. It would still be the same as rearing your own, but just in a small, local group.

Just a thought on this so don't shoot me down if it seems silly, thanks!

sound like a good idea in theory. i dont know how the law would stand. i know if you kill the birds yourself and eat them its all ok. i fatten and kill my own birds and the taste is unbelievable compared to the cheap rubbish in the super markets. but it does work out an expensive way to have fresh chicken.
