Ya, but they are very expensive. Check for cheaper brokers. Maybe wise to let the dust settle before buying.

So what are people's predictions as to what the stock will do? Will it do a Groupon or will it be more like Google?

They can value it as high as they want if people are willing to buy the shares...

    <Complete Speculation>
Intraday high of +15% on opening. Finish +7/8%

-25% by the end of the Summer.

Facebook is far too unpredictable, every ordinary tom dick and harry will want a piece of it and it could actually stabilise at an over priced level, or it could fall down faster than Adam Sandlers career. Personally I wouldnt go near it until it came to a decent price, far too speculative at the moment!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 872 ✭✭✭martyoo

In what should come as a shock to potential investors, one of the world's biggest advertisers, GM, has announced that it is pulling a $10 million campaign from Facebook...because the ads don't work.

The can do that of course but those buying the stuck must agree with it. How are investors seeing this value.

My prediction is that the stock will increase for the first few weeks, then as the party moves on the stock will dive as a hooker on ice. Lots of people will be burned by this but money will be had. Maybe you could short it!

surely the time to buy is early so as to hitch a ride to the wave of populist buying which is utterly predictable and then off load , the hype will have died down by august

Reminds me of our very own Eircom IPO, years ago, when the ordinary man got shafted.

I think it pops bigtime for the first week... there is ridiculous interest in the stock...

But long term I would steer clear

Officially to start trading at $38 tomorrow. Bloomberg reporting 43% of traders reckon it'll end tomorrow above $45. Its going to be interesting to see how things play out through the day.

I woldnt be surprised if it finished much higher than that. If you look at Linkedin's IPO, the IPO price was $45, it opened at $83, went as high as $122and closed at $94.

Now i dont know wht valuation was plced on it at the IPO, but if this is anything to go by we could see a crazy FB price by the end of the day. One thing for certain early trading is going to be wild. Opens @ 4pm.

Linkedin share price now about $104, looks like not all tech shares bomb post-IPO.

its indicating at $45, whats that about 120 times earnings? Insanity lol. Buy google at 14 times earnings and better prospects or apple at 11 times earnings.

    Ridiculous valuation.

According to google finance, this closed at 38.37.
CNBC say it closed at 38.23
Yahoo finance say it closed at 38.18

    Who is right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,084 ✭✭✭✭neris

have to say with the all the hype that was spouted on this im surprised it didnt go higher then 10%. I still think in the long term this will be overpriced and fall through the floor

The underwriters were buying the stock to ensure it did not go below 38, they can't do this forever so will be interesting to see what price it is at the end of next week.

Ridiculous valuation is right. I wouldn't go near it.

This is their Registration Statement with the SEC. It's long but it's interesting.

I was watching the live price (boredom) for the last 10 mins of trading and it touched exactly $38 a few times, but never went under that price.

So you're right, underwriters were holding it to the IPO price. It won't last..

Obsene pricing for a company with an intangible revenue product. Should fall like Yahoo.

Never liked facebook myself. Love Twitter though, superb medium.

Waiting to hear the horror stories now of ordinary people who where told to buy a "sure thing" hoping to short and make a fortune. Does anyone know anyone who actually bought? I'd say twitter will be looking at how this goes with great interest.

Traded it a few times over the day, what a volatile ride! Up 3K, down 2K, got out at breakevens. Good fun though.

[techgossip] seemingly in the States a divorce will only look at assets amassed while you're married, so Zuck can rest easy. It also coincided with her graduation, so I don't think Zuck was planning to marry the day after FB floated, it just worked out that way [/techgossip]

hahaha what a massive scam, investors soldbought geirs for 2$ each and offloaded it at the IPO.

if you asked me best time to invest was arround 2002 -2004, even 2006 as facebook grew at an exponential rate but as of now it growing at decreasing rate.

bono investment company invested in 2009 and multiplied his investment 15x+ according to news agencies but he denies he is a billionaire. Just as well, he was losing his bollox on his other investments.

Alot of those invetsors/venture capitalists make their money when those kinds of company go public and get out of them or sell a large stake to recoup their investment so if the shares go sown now theyve still made money at the ipo stage

$25 before the end of next week?

Basically every analyst pre ipo said $38 was overpriced so there may be a case to answer from merrill lynch sueing.

can anyone shed some light on the grounds of the case and any precedent?
