    Odds Cork 7/4 Kilkenny 8/15

Anyone heading along to this. I think it should be a good game. Hopefully the weather will be good.

I think Cork have a great chance of winning this and at the above odds it may worth a punt.

Recent league finals have proven to be pointers to success later in the summer and there is a great chance that these 2 will face off again in August or September.

Neither side will want to concede the advantage that a win here could bring.

Kilkenny will be missing Shefflin, Fogarty, Rice Hickey and Power. Richie Hogan could figure after recovering from the injury picked up against Galway.

Cork have had a great league campaign and seem to have 3 or 4 good young players ready to start.

Looking for a big performance from both teams and hopefully a game that will come close to championship like intensity.

My big fear will be the Cats trying put a marker down on the young Cork lads.

I still think Kilkenny are level above everyone else and think they will beat us at weekend.

Should be good game, but Kilkenny to win it by 3-4 points. Do expect Cork to give it right good go though.

I think Cork will have a right cut off KK. They have a solid enough defence and a very good mixture in the forwards. The thing I like most about Cork frowards at the moment is their willingness and confindence to take on their man.
KK will surely raise their game and will not want to be beaten twice by Cork in the league.
Really looking forward to this one.

Very tough one to call, and generally when that happens a great game ensues. Heading down to Thurles from Dublin this afternoon and looking forward to it.

Cork will definitely pumped for this one despite JBM's clever playing down of all things Cork hurling, things are going perfect for him.
Kilkenny are missing some big names but you'd have to hope there is enough depth to overcome Cork today. Richie Power is the big loss.

Kilkenny to win by 3 points in a close game with some handbags between the two at times. Up the Cats!

Why is it that KK have never joined ever other team in Ireland (even Kerry now) with regards to the tight fitting jerseys?

    kk 1-04 v 0-0 Cork after 6mins

2 sloppy passes from cork for the first 2 scores and a goal that really should have been stopped.

Not exactly a good start for Cork

Absolutely appalling goalkeeping from Coleman. Was back on his arse before Larkin even swung the hurl.

You wouldn't see an Under 14 doing the same.

Wow what a start from Kilkenny!

    2-6 to 0-02 13mins gone.

When you look at that scoreline, 2-10 to 0-5, and then look at the number of wides Kilkenny have had, it tells a story about the state of inter-county hurling. And its not a good one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭Dan Chipowski

Didn't expect this from Cork. They've been absolutely awful.

Coleman at fault for another goal there.

    3-11 to 0-05

And Kilkenny have missed about 7/8 points as well.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 34,013 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Brutal first half from Cork. Mid field are nonexistent while the forwards are putting no pressure on the kk backs whatsoever. kk forwards are in the face of the cork defence from the first whistle.
We have the wind in the second half though!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭liammur

Kilkenny simply don't want to lose 2 league finals in a row, Cork are mere fodder for them.

    Yes I totally agree.

Its annoying how cynical Kilkenny are though if you get behind them.Lehane and Horgan were getting in for chances at goal but they were fouled. At least the defenders got yellow cards though. There might be sendings off in the second half!

Kilkenny looking ruthless -14 points ahead at half time for Gods sake.
I expect Cork to come out fighting in 2nd half, but still fancy the cats to win by more than the 14 they are ahead now

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

I expected a closer game, but once kilkenny get a whiff of goal chances they just keep after them. Cork have stood off them too much and tried to play smart defending rather that getting tight and hard to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Junior D

Young McDonnell really needs to be taken off Larkin. Really being torn apart.
Kilkenny have really upped their intensity for the final, laying down a marker for championship. Hard for anyone to get near them on this form !

Anyone got any streams online for this?

Think Cork's lack of experience is really showing as well, in that I mean their younger hurlers aren't stepping up at all

Embarrassing final. Surely Cork can't be the 'best of the rest' or the championship is over already.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭beeroclock

I think it was close enough until the ref threw in the ball to start the game

Keeper - there's having a bad game and simply not having a pair of balls and you suffer from the latter I'm afraid, all 3 goals could and (and certainly for 2) should have been stopped

That being said, KK are immense and totally deserving of this annihilation - all credit to them!

I hope Michael Fennelly isn't too bad injured, we have a lot of our best players injured at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

    Fennelly gone, looks bad.

Maybe i'm being too cynical but it looked like an intentional knee to the leg by the Gardner from the replays.

How many scores have kk got from misplaced cork passes?

How is John Mulhall on this team? Not even related to a county hurler?!

Cork are hardly the 'best of the rest'... big difference between League and Championship in all fairness. All the 'Hype' about Cork being a big force this year... based on what ?? A few wins in the League

You are probably right there. But the question remains, who is most likely to challenge kilkenny?

I'm not from Cork or Kilkenny, but some of the 'takles' in that game today were closer to assaults than tackles.

Strange the way this appears to have become acceptable, with everyone afraid to say anything.

than any other county, it,s up to all the other counties to try and catch up!!

I'd still rate Tipp best of the rest, despite what happened against Cork in the semi. That was an odd kind of game in that it was good to watch, as with most games between 2 Munster sides, but I think Tipp had an off day and it made Cork look better than they actually are.

Kilkenny have it down to a 'fine art' in the way they play the game on the edge..
thats why they have so many AI titles. They have all the skills and that bit of cuteness, but they can mix it aswell.

Didn't see anything too bad from either side myself today.
As for Corks keeper. The first he def should have saved but thought the second and def the third were crackers!
Cork should have brought more to the game tho. Not often KK can send so many wides and get away with it.

Nash should start the next game.Coleman was very poor for first goal and maybe should have saved the second goal.Cork and the rest of the teams in the country are a good bit behind Kilkenny.

The only hype about cork is coming from outside the county. We are better than we were last year and will give any team a game in the coming championship. If people believe the hype they read in the papers about Cork, then today was a reality check - most observers see an improved cork team that are going in the right direction, nothing more.

Basing an opinion of the championship based on todays game would be completly foolish. Cork will be alot better come the summer, that's for sure.

Not surprised with that result really, Kilkenny have the ability to step things up. Lots of young Cork players, weren't able to match Kilkenny's intensity and the early goals must have been very disheartening.

I have no idea what Coleman was doing for the first goal, that was disgraceful. Woeful keeping. And Larkin destroyed the most inexperienced of the backline, really took him to the cleaners.

Plus Cork made basic errors and their forwards were simply eaten alive by the Kilkenny backs. The one where Cronin dropped the ball, then it was cleared and Kilkenny got a goal, that really summed the game up.

I expect this experience might actually do a lot of good for the young Cork team, that's the level they'll have to aspire to eventually, if there was any chance of them getting over-confident, that will bring them back to earth. I'm sure they realise they've made progress but still have a lot to do.

As for Kilkenny, well that's why they're the best. They're very clinical. And they did hit a few sloppy wides today. But they're great to watch, I must say.

With the exception of the odd 'off' day and everything going right for the opposition it's hard to see anyone, Tipp included beating the current KK team.

The main difference as I see it is KKs forwards ability to win their own possession. You don't see Herity using the tactical or shorter puck outs, he's quiet happy to drop it down on top of the HF line and Cody has obviously created the expectation among his HFs to win their own ball. For me, this ball winning strength puts them a front footing before any other part of the game becomes a factor.

Until the opposition have a half back line that can nullify this and have a similar group of ball winning half forwards they're at nothing.
Ya, easier said than done because there's so many other things that win a match.
In the 80's a great half back line alone could win an All Ireland. E.g Galway.
In the 90's you could argue that that evolved into having a great back unit coupled with forwards that would work their socks off. Eg Clare and Offaly.
Cork arrived with a more skilful version in the 00's, which KK have added to, with a physical ball winning side.

The game will continue to evolve, look at Gaelic football and the appointment of Eugene McGee et al. Players are getting bigger, naturally it will get more physical so that follows that the game will evolve further in other ways as well.

I attended todays final. Hats off to Kilkenny they were clinical from the start and in fairness as in previous years are the team to beat.If you dont live with them the first 10 minutes then it isnt looking to good for you.

That said Cork were brainless with their use of the ball and barring the introduction of Sweetnam i could pick little else to be positive about in their performance. That said i half think perhaps they have one eye on the mid june fixture against Tipp or Limerick.

aw boo hoo, the players were fouled...wow! Don't think for a moment if it was Cork they wouldn't foul either (anyone remember the Rock:rolleyes:)

Yes, JJ was fouling today and he received his punishment and he also needs to sharpen up for the Championship big time.

I thought it would be a lot tighter game too, obviously living in Cork I'm beginning to let the Cork hype creep in....mainly from the media might I add.

But don't be crying foul today, Cork were seriously outclassed, that's all there is to it. They will improve in the coming weeks and hopefully some of Kilkenny's injured players will be back:)

assaults would you go way hurling is a hard tough game theres more off the ball hitting pulling back in football.

kilkenny were outstanding today i was in the stand beside cork fans didn't hear them say a bad word about kilkenny.

well done Cody and the players now lets get ready for the 2-in-a-row:D

He was actually poor enough yesterday.

Only caught one of his trademark catches out of defence, and got burned a few times by Conor Lehane and Sweetnam when he came on.
Seems to have lost a yard and a half of pace since last year.

Not saying he wont get an All Star, but he certainly didn't stand out yesterday.

He certainly is. He is also built like a wall and mobile aswell. Cannot wait to see him play in the championship.
His eagerness and confidence to take on and go through the kk defence was nice to see -gives me an impression of being a big game player.

There are alot of good hurlers coming through in Cork and the experience of yesterdays game will stand to them later in the season. If we can learn not give away so many balls and get rid of some basic errors, Cork will still be a handful this year.

They're definately better than yesterday suggested. My god its hard to believe Sweetnam is only doing his leaving certiificate. He is as big as Michael Fennelly ffs!! (who is a pretty big man himself).

I would like to see himself and Aidan Walsh in action together. The twin towers - but they can actually hurl aswell.
