Upper Trap/Neck issue

Currently feeling my left upper trap working when I'm doing pressing movements or side raises.

I was thinking it was a carry over from holding my work phone against my ear with my shoulder but can't seem to stop it.

Anyone have any experience of this ? Any tips ?

"hold your phone on the other shoulder or get a headset??"

Yeah I stopped doing that, I was thinking my problem might have been a carry over from doing it though as in I was so used to shrugging with my left shoulder that when it came to pressing heavier weights it took over from my delts

have you tried using dumbells for the overhead press?
should help sort out the imbalance

Its not an imbalance as such, happens during warm up sets as well.
When I'm pressing or doing raises my left shoulder raises up. Doesn't happen with my right.

My advice would be to get it checked if it's hurting you. I'm just coming back (slowly) from a trap injury and it's such an important muscle that I wouldn't take any chances if I were you.

    Goddamit boards ate my post.

Basically what I said was - if it's happening on warm ups too, it's most likely a scapular control issue, and probably upper trap dominancy. Which almost everyone has.

Make the conscious effort to suppress your shoulder blades during sets and hold them there when pressing, and do some scapular stability work.

Go to a physio. Self diagnosis is no diagnosis. Never ask the Internet why you're in pain.
