So the sci fi geeks are having their big day again apparently.

"May the fourth be with you" and other nerdy word plays are popping up all over the place but does anyone else think it's a load of old bollox?

Do you like Star Wars? 292 votes

So if I say yes in this poll I am saying I like Star Wars and want to have someone put their penis up my bum but if I say no I think people who do like it are nerds? Also if I chose the normally neutral response of Atari Jaguar I am not neutral but in fact prefer obsolete games consoles to Star Wars?

I'm sure your poll will result in a non-biased accurate response to how people feel about the movies.

I didn't vote but I loved the original 3 movies but hate the new movies.

OP is really getting the hang of surfing the culture wave. Everyone should know that he's also started disliking zombies and bacon but that The Big Labowski is still way cool.

For the last 30 odd years ever since as a child sitting in the front row of the cinema and watching that opening scene with the Empire ship flying overhead, Star Wars (ep 4) has had a place in my heart.
Though it's a bit dated now and has quite a few goofs I still watch it the odd time if it's on telly, and it always brings back memories of its sheer mindblowingness to a young kid from rural Cork in 1978. :)

This is the point, if you didn't see these films in the 70's and 80's you are never going to fully get it.

The original movie changed movies forever, not all of those changes were good (mass merchandising movies) but without Star Wars we wouldnt have Pixar, or ILM, or THX sound, or Lucasarts games.

    The prequels are sh1te though

Well the first one was a breath of fresh air. CG below sums it up perfectly.

+1 There was an urban Dublin kid right there with ya. :)

It was an amazing kids adventure movie. Kids, not podgy 35 year olds with light sabre collections. The second one was a good un. Best of the series as a film. The third was a steaming pile of shíte, rattled out to wrap things up. The prequels are technically brilliant, but story wise pretty shíte. Rotten dialogue.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

It has to be said that Star Wars, and everything about it, is the biggest load of bollocks the world has ever known. It could have been worse though, it could have been a series of musicals.

I wonder how many people who say Star Wars/LOTR/Star Trek/Harry Potter etc have even seen them. I hate Twilight, but at least I watched the first movie to form my own opinion, some people just seeem to instantly dislike anything thats popular or "nerdy" because they should, silly sheeple.

Star Wars was important for what it gave to the industry. It's huge success allowed a newly minted Lucas to set up Skywalker ranch (industrial light and magic and skywalker sound et al). Their contribution to the improvements in the movie industry are for me the legacy of Star Wars.

Also, John Williams' score is bloody brilliant.

    Absolutely.
It's a pile of shíte. My main problem with it is, they can build spaceships and laser cannons and all this amazing advanced technology, yet they choose to fight with fúcking sticks?:confused::confused:

Stand 50 metres away and shoot the bollox, don't get so close as he can hit you with a stick! How retarded is that.

only three people in the original trilogy have lightsabers, Luke, Obi-Wan and Vader, everyone else uses blasters.

the Jedi are influenced by samurai anyway, thats kind of the point, they're an old school clan of warriors/peacekeepers in a modern age.

The whole point of Star Wars, the whole point of sci-fi, is escapism. You can sit down and dissect any sci-fi show ever and find any number of massive plot holes. Why do all Aliens speak english? Faster than light travel is actually impossible according to Einstien. Why do the Aliens in Alien look like a guy in a suit? What does the bad guy do while the crew in Star Trek are away having a conference, have a tea?

Yes Star Wars has it's holes and bad acting, but at the end of the day it's still enjoyable and that's the whole point. The whole 'May the Fourth be with you' thing is just a bit of fun. Anyone who takes that seriously can probably be ignored.

I like Star Wars and Star Trek (except for the Deep Space Nine) I like Doctor Who, and heck I even liked Buffy The Vampire Slayer in it's day, all the real old Twilight Zone episodes( not to be mistaken for the Twilight vampire series) and all the old Hitchcock movies - all that stuff, heck I even liked ET and Ghost Busters.

I'm bringing my two kids to the Star Wars convention in City West this weekend, and I might consider wearing my Leia outfit too - Nerd and proud. :P
