Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

People don't look at Mary Beard's show to have a ****. They look at her show for a well informed piece of intellectual programming.

    :o

    Sorry!

Amazing how many people take her seriously.

Indeed. I never paid much attention to her before, but looked up a few pictures now. She's actually rather plain, especially the lower part of her face with that rounded chin area - totally out of proportion. There are dozens of better-looking women than her on the BBC. If her programmes had content, as Mary Beard's certainly have, viewers would pay more attention to the programmes than to the person presenting them.

Just imagine the shit she'd be in if she suggested, using the same logic, that the royals get the young, good-looking Kate to read the Christmas message this year instead of her granny-in-law the aul Windsor wan.:D:D

Maybe she's over-compensating for her embarrassment at having a name that rhymes with Prick, and she isn't getting enough dick.

Ms Brick obviously hasn't read Roald Dahl's cautionary tale The Twits. Some people are just plain ugly inside, she is definitely one of them and her face has already started to reflect that.

Mary Beard is a wonderful presenter. She's knowledgeable, witty, and brilliant at what she does. She seems to be a far better class of human being than the superficial, attention seeking Brick. If ever a surname suited a person its this one.

I bet she drinks pints as well, fair play to her.

On "Meet the Romans" last week, she was talking about how the Romans liked drink, sex, and food. And then she paused, and said something like "they're the things that make life worth living." What a legend. She's full of character, and seems like a million times more interesting and fun than Brick, and a million times more decent than AA Gill, who seems at this stage to have had the blood in his veins replaced with vinegar.

Brick's an airhead and Gill's a wanker who seems to specialise in launching venomous attacks on restaurants, and for some reason gets paid for it.

    Shallow feckers.

Why on Earth does any of this Brick-nonsense qualify as news?

Seriously, who gives a crap about this woman and why does she and her silly pronouncements get so many column-inches?

It just doesn't make any sense to me!

What a woman to wind up the Internet.

    Got to love her.

It's as news-worthy as a burglar getting bashed by an old lady or a pair of otters holding hands paws as they swim around a pool at the zoo. It's a bit of light relief from more weighty concerns, a reassuring sign that we can still tolerate narcissistic twits, and don't feel the urge to put them on trial as witches and burn them at the stake for heresy.

You might think that Samantha Brick was subjected to "trial by media", but it can't have been all that bad, since she still has a paying job, and she's at it again. This time she's bashing French women as "predatory adulterers", starting with the girlfriend of the new French President:
I have been reduced to tears on numerous occasions by French women who feel no need to disguise their dislike of me. Examples include greeting my husband (a Frenchman born and bred) but ignoring me, passing ahead of me in the queue at the post office, and ignoring my friendly hello at the school gate.
I think she's a "useful idiot", in the sense that the way people react to her rants tells us more about them than it does about her. A troll, in other words. ;)

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

Just ignore attention whores like this, and they eventually go away.

Mary Beard looks grand. Of course there has to be a couple of people on this thread rushing to point out how she looks. We can see how she looks and she's a woman who's about 60 and not concerned with being sexy, and AA Gill is a ****. Is he saying "Andrew Marr isn't photogenic enough for TV"? Course not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭Ormus

Why is Samantha Brick getting 90% of the blame for this? It was AA Gill who actually said it, she just agreed with it.

I guess it makes better news that she said it.

Maybe you all hate her cos she is beautiful? Even though she is not at all beautiful.

I'm better looking than Brick and you don't hear me harp on about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭aidan24326

So basically we have a third-rate hack from The Daily Mail Rag slagging off a respected Cambridge Professor. I know which one of those two is having the last laugh, especially since Brick is neither smart nor good looking.

And whoever's publishing her outbursts is clearly in need of a P45. As is his/her editor.

Why? Her 'outbursts' make the DM a fortune, whoever is responsible for her 'I'm so beautiful that's why women hate me' article, published alongside some seriously unflattering pictures of her, probably got a bonus as it attracted so much traffic to their site. The DM knows exactly what it is doing, it's a professional troll, and as such it's the number one most popular 'news' site in the world. And they got that popular by writing articles that annoy people, make them link to them in forums, write blogs about them, reference them in other papers/tv shows and send hundreds of thousands of people who would never look at the DM otherwise to their site. Somewhat insane women on a hysterical rant are their bread and butter, just look at Liz Jones and Jan Moir. Brick is just the next in a long line of women who is filling this role for them.
