"One off houses nicely settled into the countryside..."

Not around west Cork, Kerry they're not!

    Bloody eyesores, most of them.

Looking out at the lovely one-off housing in the countryside.

    Bungalow blight to anyone else.

There is this thing called the planning department, and they have very strict rules on what your house can look like, the size of the windows, the distance from the stairs to the door etc etc. Unfortunately as well as being picky, they are also corrupt, and anyone can build any house anywhere so long as there are enough notes in the envelope.

If the planning department was doing its job, one off houses wouldnt be a problem and we wouldnt be talking about it.

That's changed since the Father Reynolds report..

    RTE Standard Operating Procedure:

    ....

    Subsection 15a:
    Dont bother checking facts
    Check facts..

    ...

Believe me Syklops, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about...well, in a former life anyway.

(Haha, don't know why I'm being so cryptic there? I used to work in a planning department, that's what I'm trying to say.)

You cant beat living in the countryside, no skangers, junkies, fresh air, play music as loud as you want in your house, go for nice walks.

I wish, would have got some nice brown coloured envelopes if I did.;)

In all seriousness, the pressure from above at political/council managerial level is at the root of all the problems... planners can't do jack sh*t from what I experienced.
