Broke my collar bone on the weekend at a match  and have been told it will be in a sling for a month min. This will be fairly frustrating as I was getting into a great routine in the gym and thoroughly enjoying it

So I know I wont be benching/squatting anytime soon but what small exercises can you do to keep the body (and the mind) ticking over?

Also whats important to change with diet, as I won't need much energy I was thinking of decreasing my carb intake. I would follow paelo as much as I can at the moment anyway.

Do nothing. Maybe some walking. The collar bone is a part of an already very mobile and flexible structure and you're going to have a hard enough time getting it to heal correctly as is.

Buy a few box sets and settle in.

I agree with Barry. Take up boxing. The impact will strengthen it.

....soooooo not serious there. You need some high intensity rest and recovery.

I banjaxed mine a while ago, and I found there wasn't much I could do other than sit tight.

Dammm, that was kinda the answers I didn't want but was expecting.

I watched the Sopranos years ago but it looks like I'll be dusting that off again. Currently working my way through through Callifornication

Dont forget the wire....awesome show! Takes a few episodes to get into it but after that its all gravy

I think it also depends on how badly your break is. Ask your doctor/physio about what you can do and see how it feels.

And you should watch The Wire anyway.

+1 to The Wire. I'd throw in Boardwalk Empire and Breaking Bad as well, no pun intended.

If you people don't watch, love and enjoy Boston Legal, you're stupid and I hate you.

    I recommend Dexter.

Could he use one of those seated exercise bike things on low resistance or would shoulder move too much on those?

Actually I just remembered - one of the things I did while laid up was to work on stretching and hip mobility. Fairly easy stuff while watching the TV. I actually made quite a bit of improvement on my squat form.

I broke mine a couple of years back and after a couple of weeks I used a turbo trainer (or exercise bike). Strap it up tight and try to keep the upper body as still as possible. Worked for me, but if you are very sore, or if it is a bad break, leave off doing anything for a good while.

A recumbent bike? Dexter is better than that.
