Chelsea play Newcastle on the back of a 6-1 trashing of QPR and a few days prior to the FA Cup Final.

Newcastle come into the game after finding themselves 4-0 down at half time to Wigan and arguably their worse showing of the season.

Both teams have lots to play for. Chelsea, while appearing in the UCL still hold aspirations to finish in 4th and not let the UCL final be their only way into the competition next year.

Newcastle have been on a great run recently and nobody would really begrudge them 4th place, Pardew has done a great job up north and ahs Newcastle playing good attacking football.

No team news from the Chelsea camp as yet, Di Matteo's press conference is scheduled for this afternoon but we will have Ivanovic back from suspension and Cahill will be more then likely out while Luiz is still a doubt.

I expect Chelsea to line up as such :

    Cech

    Bos---Ivan----JT----Cole

    Mikel----Lamps

    Ramires--Mata--Sturridge

    Torres

    Predicition : Chelsea 2 - 1 Newcastle

We've been good at home this season for the most part and recent results have given the squad the belief they need to fight on 3 fronts.

I think we'll just have enough to beat Newcastle, earlier in the season we won 3-0 at Newcastle in a game that didnt reflect the amount of chances Newcastle created and should have got at least 1 goal.

We have become a better team since then and so have Newcastle but I fancy us to take 3 points tonight.

Its on Wednesday night, I suspect Torres will start, I mean you cant really drop a guy after a hat-trick.

If Newcastle want to finsih 3rd/4th they have to beat us and take something from City IMO.

Not sure what result I want really, probably a draw :)
1 all in a very dull match.

Bricking it. Really not expecting anything from the game at all. If we set up like we did against Wigan then we are doomed from the off.

I don't expect many changes really.
    Krul

    Simpson --- Coloccini --- Williamson --- Santon

Ben Arfa --- Cabaye --- Tiote --- Jonas

    Cissé --- Ba

I'd not be surprised to see Pardew opt for a 4-5-1 though.
    Krul

    Simpson --- Coloccini --- Williamson --- Santon

Ben Arfa --- Perch --- Cabaye --- Tiote --- Jonas

    Cissé

If he did go for the latter formation I'd imagine that Perch and Tiote will stick just in front of the back four for an extra bit of cover given the quality of Chelsea's front line.

Cabaye had an excellent game against Stoke when he was in a more advanced position with Cissé just ahead of him.

It's our right hand side I fear for most. As good as Ben Arfa is offensively, he offers very little protection to Simpson who was exposed an awful lot on Saturday against Wigan.

Marveaux, Obertan and Best are all back in training and will make the bench for this so we've options if we need to change it. They've all been out for quite some time so match fitness may be a severe problem for them.

We'll be wanting to make amends for that horror show but I can see Chelsea beating us comfortably. 2-0 Chelsea.

hope torres can keep up his good form tomorrow night. we need bosingwa to come up with another big performance too against cissé and possibly ba aswell. don't think sam hutchison is quite ready yet.

hoping newcastle will bottle it like gav said against us and city

Even Europa League football after going down 2 seasons ago is a fantastic acheivement, now I'm not discounting Newcastle as they proved they have goals in their squad.

I just think at this stage of the season we'll have to much and beat them, our players have rallied for the last few weeks and doen the business.

I would love if Torres added to his tally Wednesday night, I really hope he can bang in a couple before the end of the season, but I'll swap a couple for 2 goals, a winner in the FA cup and UCL Finals will do Nando.

    :pac:

3-0 to Chelsea I fear. Gave us a schooling in St James' in November and are beginning to hit top form. We could be in for a long evening

Things have been going a bit too well for us the past few weeks, letting Newcastle get something from this would be pretty typical of Chelsea.

We need to win, we need to seal 4th, the last thing we need is the pressure of knowing that losing the CL final will mean no CL football next season.

Form says we should win, I'll go for 3-1, 1-1 at HT with a couple of late goals from Lampard & Torres.

To be fair in that game, Luiz could have been sent off after 5 minutes, I know until half time we dominated the game and Sturridge should have doen better to setup others around him.

It still took a very good Drogba header to put us in front, after Lamps missed a penalty.

In the 2nd half Amoebi smashed the bar and had on cleared off the line beofre we made it 2-0 and then 3-0, but Newcastle certainly were unlucky not to have at least scored.

I still think we'll win 2-1 after going 2-0 though but it wont be as bread and butter as some are suggesting.

They should've had Luiz sent off and we were all over for them for the guts of the second half and hit the bar twice if I recall. We sent far too many players forward and got caught out twice in quick succession late on.

Gave us a lesson in taking your chances though I supppose. :pac:

I think Newcastle's great run came to an end at Wigan. I expect them to fade away now and we should be able to win this.

I still feel fourth is with in our grasp, our only other tough game is against the pool and now that we are in form i expect us to beat them as we are the better side by quite some distance.

I reckon it will be our usual set up for the game against Chelsea

    Krul
    Simps
    Willo
    Colo
    Santon
    Tiote---Jonas
    HBA
    Cabaye
    Ba----
    Cisse

I thought we would be hammered in this one and win at Wigan but since the Wigan result I now think we have a chance here.

I reckon 3 points tomorrow, a point at home to City and a loss at Everton will place us 5th.

So your not going lose to Chelsea and City?

    We'll see :pac:

I'd like to see Newcastle in Europe but this season is the best season to captailise on Spurs/Chelsea/Arsenal all being inconsistent and to try and sneak into a 4th place.

I dont think next season Newcastle will be in such a position next year but you just never know.

    Not a Newscastle fan :p

I can't see Newscastle losing to Chelsea easily, think they'll get something, likewise against City.

I agree with you though about Newscastle not being in such a good position next year, think if they have Champions League football they will be in a much better position to attract and retain players for next season, same goes with Tottenham. Three crunch games for CL football tomorrow in any case, will be good!

I can see us nicking a well deserved draw here, regardless of how well chelsea have been doing recently and how off the pace we were against wigan,we should be better disciplined defensively tomorrow,I'm going for a 1-1 draw.

That's what I'm hoping for personally. He played a similar formation to that against Arsenal at the Emirates, with Ba uptop instead of Cisse.

I can't see this game going the same way as our weekend fixtures went. Newcastle will be a much much tougher task for Chelsea than QPR posed that and the fact that it will be drilled into the Newcastle players that last weekend's result cannot be repeated.

I still fancy a Chelsea win but can't seeing it being a clear cut win, maybe a 2-1 or something.

    2-1 Chelsea.

Ivanovic to score on his return :pac:

I had posted this in the Superthread but only seeing the match thread now, stupid that this game isnt on TV.
    Krul
    Simpson--Colo--Willo--Santon

    Tiote
    Perch

    Ben Arfa----Cabaye
    Jonas

    Cisse

Can easily change formation if needed
    Krul
    Simpson--Colo
    Willo
    Perch

    Santon--Tiote ---Cabaye--Jonas

    Ben Arfa---- Cisse

The game in SJP should of been alot closer as most ppl have said and thats when Taylor got his season ending injury and Colo went off as well.

not much hope, maybe if it starts snowing at 7. Otherwise, looking at £100 each, minimum.

Benny first goal at 19's is tempting.

Had him at 25/1 to score first against Arsenal, and he'll be looking to get forward tonight.
Nothing to say he won't score against another top London side, away from home, first :D
