I'm looking for a good chipper in Navan. Used to be happy with the Macari's in the Blackcastle Shopping Centre but last time they sold me smoked fish which was so dry I almost choked on it, not even my cats were interested. Any suggestions?

    Sorry I LOL'ed :D

I don't go near any of those places (as you get older you don't get away with eating these things!), but a lot of people I know have praised Ezio's!

I usually go to Macrai's as it is the closest to me, I know its not the best, but neither is it the worst. For me the best is a place is in Johnstown, have no idea of the name!!, one of wifes friends live there and she usually gets something from there on way back. The quarter pound is animal I must say!!. Am sure whoever lives that way will know the name of the place, think its beside an off license.

+1 for Ezios in Beechmount. Also China Garden on Brews Hill is a nice chinese for take away or eat in. Great lunch deals there!

They are sooo scabby with chips in Blackcastle but the Chinese food is nice next door...All the Chippers in Navan are rubbish.
    Beachmount are ok though ..:)

Hylands Fish n Chips on the Square where abrakebabra was are brilliant, batter is really light n crispy. And their burgers are great too, the chicken burger is great!

I suppose if it's purely chips you're after then the Valley is still top dog. Milkshakes are unreal too.

Hyland's does a great fish though and is doing very well. About time we got rid of Abrakebabra out of the town.

Not a patch on the China Garden, suffered a broken tooth thanks to OP's food, wouldn't be recommending them.

Totally disagree, China Garden is rip off, portions are way to small, will never go there again. One of the worst Chinese take aways I have ever used, defo the worst in Meath. Have been going to Ocean Palace for last 2 years, and think only 1 meal that I didn't like, to much salt on the ocassion. Actually said it to them, and things were back to normal when I used them again.

Lol, you have a point on portions but as for the worst in the county there are many much worse than either take-away/restraunt you mention.

Totally agree on the takeaway. It's terrible!

BBQ ribs are amazing there in that Chinese in Blackcastle.Nom nom nom

I'd have the Oriental Palace over the China Garden. Very overrated takeaway.

For chips, I have to recommend Giovannis on Flower Hill opposite the filling station. When the chips are fresh, nobody does them better

The Valley is muck. Their burgers are all just stodgy cheese and no flavour. Don't believe the hype

Can't argue with the numbers guys, have seen the queue going out the door of the garden, can't say that about any other take away in town.

BTW we go to Blackcastle, tis lovely and just across the road, doesn't get better than that tbh.

I personally don't have a favourite take away, I do however have favourite meals from the different places. I think it depends what you're in the mood for.

yup, the one where supervalu is, i think it might also be a macari's, but they cook their chips really well and everything else is usually very nice and decent portions.

the staff are always very friendly and chatty and they also do very good pizza's as well, highly recommended.

Giovannis on Flower Hill is good. The Valley was the best in Navan till a few years ago when they changed the oil that they use for the chips. I find it really noticable.
In the early 1980's when I was still in school I had a part time job in Dunnes grocery and every Friday night when I got my wages I would go into the Valley on my way home from work and buy a big bag of chips and eat them on the way home. They had loads of vinegar and were gorgeous! Yummy!!
    How I miss that taste!

Also the China Garden is the best in town,I find the portions plenty big and I have the appetite of a horse:D
The chinese in Blackcastle is rank:eek:

The Valley has gone downhill I think. Their burgers are full of cheese and onion and too stodgy. Their chips have gone downhill as well. Giovannis on Flower Hill is my favourite for chips. I used to get pizza and chips in Ascio's Brews Hill. They were lovely. I haven't been there in a while

we used to get our chinese from the willows and we really liked it. it's also handy on match days as they will bring food into the pub for you to eat whilst watching the footie. :)

for Indian food you can't beat Copper and Spices. i've moved to Dublin now but C&S is the only Indian i'll go to and it's the essential last stop on the way back to Dublin after visiting the inlaws in Kells.

Macaris in Blackcastle is the closest takeaway to us its literally across the road so we use it. Have to agree with the point of the small portions of chips though, they are quite scabby. I still believe they are the best at the moment though as they have new recession buster deals for €5.50 including drink.

I think the China Garden are the best chinese takeaway by a mile!

The Valley Cafe used to be top dog but something changed in the past few years. I remember as a kid on a Friday we'd get the chips wrapped in newspaper, lots of vinegar and big portions. They seem to be alot dryer now. Their milkshakes are great though.

Have heard great things about Vico's grill on Ludlow Street, apparently their chicken is gorgeous.

I worked in Giovannis when I was 15 years ago! I would never ever eat in it again as I don't like their food.

Read in the newspaper that the FSAI closed the Hyland's chipper in May due to problems with hygiene, are they open now? Even if the food is great, don't like businesses taking shortcuts with hygiene.

Yeah they are open, saw them advertising special burgers for the Ireland match tonight

Macari's in Johnstown, near the church is good quality.

For Indian Takeaway it has to be Khan Spices, Watergate St. Delish. (Balti, Bhuna and Tikka Masala)
