Weight fluctuation through the day

I have noticed that my weight fluctuates (imo) hugely through the day- if I weigh myself after I have woken up in the morning I will be about 2kg lighter than if I weigh myself in the evening. Is this normal? If so why? I have a suspicion that its something to do with the amount of water I'm drinking or possibly breastfeeding (how much milk is stored?). Or else my scales is broken- its of the old school variety. And which weight should I use for bmi calculation purposes? Any enlightenment would be much appreciated!

Oh you'll drive yourself cuckoo if you're weighing yourself at different times during the day!

Food consumed during the day, water particularly, adds a fair bit to your weight predictably.

Weigh yourself when you wake up in the morning:)

I'm on a weight loss diet / new lift style type of thing and it's going well but when i started i used to weigh myself randomly through out the day and the weight fluctuation used do drive my nearly insane
so now i weigh myself once a week at the same (ish) time of the day.

i noticed that as well. whether its the body burning calories during the night or what but I always find I'm lighter in the morning. get yourself a digital scales so you are more confident in the accuracy... only 20euro in Tesco Clearwater, I find that Salter are good.

I always thought it was because you're more dehydrated in the morning?

Most likely. It's interesting to weight yourself in the evening and in the morning few times, but beside that not very useful. I think I lost sometimes 1kg overnight - couldn't be anything else than water really... (and a bit of calories, but not 1kg of fat, haha)

I never get why people are surprised by this. You put a couple of kilos of food and drink into your body each day. This simply increases your weight. You burn off food, and expell waste to counter act this. A true weight is impossible to pinpoint so just track the morning weight once a week It's the easiest to follow.
If you drink a litre of water you'll get 1kg heavier immediately as its simple the weight of the water.

Pretty much yeah. Food, waste, water etc will prob be at there lowest in the morning.

Actually there is one situation when weighting yourself more often during the day is useful - before and after long run / cycle / exercise - to see how much water you lost and need to drink back to rehydrate :)

As said above, when we were training, we'd have to weigh ourselves before and after so we would know how much fluid we had lost. We would then have to drink that amount of water afterwards.
