Price solid at 5/4. Will you be backing at that price?

Certainly, having a large bet at that.

What about the ground lads anything could happen!!!!

Voler La Vadette has had a weakness exposed at Gowran, taken along at snails pace.

Of course anything can happen, the 5/4 price alone suggests that :)

She is 3 wins from 3 on heavy and has won over 3 miles.

Took Berties at 14/1 and might back Voler 11/4 looks big considering how well she has handled 3 miles and she has won on heavy

Why has she never been entered in the World Hurdle at Cheltenham? Is there a chance she will meet Big Bucks in the future?

Handy money in the mares hurdle for connections. I agree though for the spectacle its a pity they wouldn't run her against Big Bucks.

Quevega as classy a mare she is wouldn't beat Big Bucks, I would say it would be a similar outcome to VDV at Cheltenham if Quevega took on Big Buck's.

    Anyway lumping on Quevega today.

A jump on Q and a small saver on Mourad to win half the lump.

    Quevega V Voler La Vadette.

Make the call everyone? I'm on Quevega, getting nervous now though.

Typical if something else bar these 2 wins with all the hype!

    Can't wait.

    Too easy.

Seriously has to get this mare into the World Hurdle next year at Cheltenham. There is only one way to find out just how good she is.

    Some little mare that one

Get in, what a horse. The world needs Big Bucks vs Quevega.

    The owners don't need it.

Madness to take on BB when that money is there to be collected in Mares Hurdle each year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

It's not going to happen Quevega going for World Hurdle unless Big Bucks is not in the race. I'm sure Ruby knows Big Bucks would have the mare covered & has advised Willie Mullins.

It's easy money for the owners going for the Mares Hurdle. Every owner wants a winner at Cheltenhem & thats why they choose the Mares Hurdle over World Hurdle.

Mullins just confirmed same plan for next year & maybe Auteil, France during the summer.

Yeah I get that but it's a shame. Racing needs matchups like this and I think racing fans deserve to see 2 great horses go head to head.

    Just my opinion.

The whole money angle for the Mares race is a pretty lame answer if you ask me. She has won her people enough money to warrant her getting a shot at the champ.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

A little dinger. Was very impressed with how she stayed on in that ground. It proves that she was probably below par in beating mourad a length last year.

Like big bucks, she just keeps winning. Unlike big bucks, they keep offering her at prices way too big

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

Would be great to see someone like JP or O Leary stick up a few hundred thousand for her and BB to clash over 2m 6f or something

Why would you want to line up in a race you aren't favourite in when you could be odds on fav in another?

Did Ruby really just say that?

Yeah he did. Makes perfect sense.

She still wouldn't get past Big Bucks, I think if Andrew Lynch loomed up beside BB in a jeep he would struggle to get past

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

You don't want to try and beat the best at your sport?

    Different mind-sets I guess.

There is no shame whatsoever in losing to the great Big Bucks. No-one is gonna think anything less of Quevega should she lose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

Interesting to see what rating handicapper gives her after that race, she is a 159 on Racing Post website. Big Bucks is 174!

Owners paying bills will take prize money. And a shot at 5 in a row. Be mental not to go for it. Would actually need your head examined to take on BB.

According to sportinglife VLD got £55,000 for finishing second in the world hurdle while Quevega won £39,000 for winning her race.

    My 2nd point, 5 in a row.

I think Mullins knows best lads

4-5-6 in a row, at the end of the day she isn't being tested. People/Animals at the top of their game need to be tested, we have no idea just how good she is. We WANT to see what she is actually capable off. Right now she is probably at her peak, what are they gonna do? Wait for Big Bucks to retire then enter her in the race? That would be rather comical imo

4 and a world hurdle wouldn't be bad either....

The horse to end Big Bucks possible chance at something like 20 in a row wouldn't be bad either.

    She quality.

From a betting perspective I think I'd like her to go for the mares race - I don't mind backing her odds on, she's just a legend of a horse!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

Ya I think she should be getting a shot. The owners may never again have a horse as good so why not let her be put to the test. I thought she was v impressive. She flies up the hill at Cheltenham as well. It's the race everyone will want to see now. Another Mares' race will just be an anti-climax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

Racing fans want to see the likes of Quevega vs Big Bucks, Frankel vs Black Caviar. These types of H2H's don't come around very often, passing up an opportunity to make it happen makes me, as a racing fan, very sad and slightly annoyed.

Pacman vs Mayweather is a fight everyone wants to see but the retardedness of the whole situation there makes it unlikely to happen. There is nothing standing in the way of Willie Mullins and Co saying let's enter her in the World Hurdle and give her a shot at one of the greatest horses to ever run at the Cheltenham Festival. If she fails then throw her back in the Mares race in 2014. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

It may even be good for Big Bucks too. That horse hasn't got the credit for its record and a match up between the two would create excitement and profile for both horse and race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

Heard an interview with Ruby there, about an hour after the race. Said that he rates Quevega very highly, but Big Bucks is Big Bucks and that the handicapper has it right. So basically he thinks she wouldn't have much chance at all

Of course he would say that, if they run again each other its one less winner for ruby in the festival.

But if it did happen he would definately ride big bucks

As a spectacle, yes a clash of Big Bucks and Quevega would be spectacular. I would love to see it myself. I am looking at it from an owners p.o.v. If Quevega was mine I would keep going the Mares Hurdle route. It's money for jam, if she got beat by Big Bucks would it affect her confidence? Would the value of future foals decrease?

Too many if's for me when she can just go and do the job she does every year so well.

If Im involved with Quevega I want to know just how good she really is. How do we find this out? By putting her in a blockbuster race with the king Big Bucks. Confidence? Give me a break, she has been beaten before. Value of future foals decrease? I guess you're a half glass empty kind of guy, imagine how they would sky rocket if she defeated Big Bucks. Think big imo, losing to Big Bucks isn't exactly an embarrassing thing to happen now is it?

Look at the superstar Mare in OZ, Black Caviar, she could easily just stay over there and win every race she enters but Peter Moody is bringing her to Royal Ascot because he wants her to race against the best the UK & Ire has to offer. Cecil and Moody may even get the Frankel/Black Caviar matchup happening at Goodwood later in the year.

You have your opinion and I have mine. Neither is going to change anything. Willy Mullins I'm sure knows better than us.

I believe confidence is a big thing with horses. My belief, not yours so please don't try ridicule it.

As for the Black Caviar coming to Uk point, did someone not offer up a million pounds for that? I'm sure if you put up a million to take on Big Bucks Quevega would go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

No that is for the Frankel meeting should it happen. He was always aiming for Royal Ascot.

I was certain that would happen this year after winning by half the track last year and yet despite having no opposition, she was 4/6. It was the value bet of the whole festival

There's more than 1 3 mile hurdle. Why not take him on at Aintree next season!! 2 runs a season is wasting this superstar!!

Another point is that BB is the 4 times 3m champion in England. He should come over and try to become the Irish champ also. I don't buy that he doesn't travel well. Would be good for the Irish racing public to get a chance to see him

Lol I believe a horses jumping confidence can be affected by a fall but if they come second in a race I dont think they are in their stable that night thinking "Im not as fast as I used to be, I doubt Ill ever win another grade 1".

Yes I genuinely do. And would be surprised if most didn't tbh.

I'd say they gain confidence from winning but I don't think they lose as much as you think by not winning. I dunno I just don't see any good reason not to give her a shot at the big time. They know she can win the races she has been in the past few years. She is just so much better than the rest, there is another level to go, it is utter madness (imo of course) not to go for gold. They are pretty much settling for silver right now.

It'd be great to see him in Ireland, but as the Chetenham champion he has nothing to prove. He keeps winning the premier 3 mile hurdle race in the world. I'd even say winning at Cheltenham already makes him the Defacto Irish champ. It's not like the Irish prefer to win at Punchestown than Cheltenham

Obviously Mullins knows more than me but surely Quevega could run more than twice a year? I'd love to see her at Aintree. If not there she could try the Long walk?! She's gonna be put away now for th best part of a year!

Yes, I agree, not as much a factor as I made it out to be. I'm just trying to use their logic as I would love to see this match up. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it will happen.
